Figure Skating ISU Grand Prix 2025 - 2026

Recommended Posts

Based on the results today from Finland, we have the Grand Prix Finals for Pairs set:

Miura Riku & Kihara Ryuichi :JPN

Deanna Stellato-Dudek & Maxime Deschamps :CAN

Anastasiia Metelkina & Luka Berulava :GEO

Sara Contii & Nicolo Macii :ITA

Minerva Fabienne Hase & Nikita Volodin :GER

Maria Pavlova & Alexei Sviatchenko :HUN

No American duo unfortunately, despite earning 3 medals in Pairs (including Silver and Bronze today)...just the math didn't work in our favor, and Kam & O'Shea had too many errors in their free skate today.

  • 2 weeks later...

Malinin :USA opted for the 4-Axel in his Short Program, but faltered, landing him in 3rd thus far (and only 0.05 away from 4th!).  Surely he has the tools to rise back up in the Free Program.  (Also, perhaps this will serve to show him that he is in fact beatable.)

And Malinin bounced back.  He earned a WR 238.24 in the FP...and of note that in this Grand Prix Finals event, the 6th place competitor earned 242.19 combined (not even 4 points higher).

Dang.

And the Americans take 3 gold medals in the GP Finals, with Japan taking the fourth.  The Japanese ladies just took a couple of stumbles, allowing Alysa Liu to snag gold for the ladies.  Japan ends up on top for the season overall.

Check out Post 2 for complete medal tables from the season...see you all in Milano!

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
