Cross-post with Ice Hockey discussion Thread

Important info : IIHF council decided that countries that were not able to participate this year due of covid travel issues will not lost their seeding and will not be relegated.

Also :RUS and :BLR will not be allowed to copete even next year, but since lower division will be adjusted to have 6 teams, many changes were required and basically relegated teams will play again in their respective divisions like this year - yeah Total Chaos :p

Adjustments in Division I and below

With Russia and Belarus not able to play in the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship program, it was decided to fill up tournaments to the regular number of teams, which is usually six in the groups below the top division.

For the men’s categories that means that teams will move up in the following order to reach the number of teams beside the teams regularly promoted: 1) last-ranked team that was originally relegated, 2) runner-up of the lower division. In the women’s categories the move usually involves one team being the last-ranked team originally relegated that will stay up.

The 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A will thus be played with Italy, Great Britain, Lithuania, Korea, Poland and Romania; Group B with Japan, Ukraine, Estonia, China, Serbia and the Netherlands.

Teams that were not able to participate in the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship program due to Covid-19 remain their seeding position in the program. However, for 2023 it is planned that member national associations who do not fulfil their participation commitment will be dealt with according to the regular procedure as by the IIHF Statutes & Bylaws.

This is how it should look (remember the Division III B and Division IV can be split into 4 and 4 teams, so :MAS and :SGP will be very likey put back to division four

:USA playing again witho only 4 defencers !

Swayman - Hughes, Jones, Schmidt, Peeke - Galchenyuk, Hartman, Boldy - Gaudette, Tynan, Bellows - Lafferty, Barber, Farrell, Meyers, Kuhlman - Bordeleau, Hayden, Lettieri - Watson

Lafferty and Barber will have again to play as defencers...

Both teams already played together in Tampere in the preliminary round with Czechia winning by football result 1-0.

:CZE is looking for first medal since 2012 !!! :USA after losing its 11th semifinal in a row at WCH in history (absolute record) want leave this unreal tournament with a medal. USA after losing two defenders for injury are now playing with only 4 blueliners since the half of the preliminary round. Seth Jones is playing literally every match around 30 minutes of ice time, absolutely crazy.

Czechs finished in the preliminary round group B 3rd and USA 4th both with 13 points with the head to head result 1-0 for CZE being the decider.

CZE beat Germany 4-1 in the QF to lose to Canada yesterday 1-6 in the semi. USA eliminated surprisingly one of the top fav of the tournament, the until then unbeaten Switzerland 3-0 to lose yesterday in the earlier semifinal to host Finland 3-4

USA had 3 hours of rest more than the Czechs who are returning to the ice less than 19 hours after their semifinal.

Referees of the game Lassi Heikinen of Finland and Fraser Lawrence of Canada, Linesmen Hannu Sormunen (Finland) and Nathan van Oosten (Canada)

:CZE on board.

Only from the 3rd Czech shot on goal in this match Jiří Černoch beat Jeremy Swayman. 2-1 USA at Time 15:19 (Assists for Flek and Stránský) Great move from the czech 4th line. So far their best in this match.

2nd goal for Černoch in this tournament.

    • Those hurt, especially not one but two countries that have never missed a single contest likely missing out now     Where did everyone go?   Edit: I see Slovenia is in, that's fantastic news! Brazil though...   I think I'm going to ask if @brunamoura wants to come up with a song, despite really not having lots of time for it due to training and work. With some luck, she can listen the playlist on Spotify during training or something and get a bit of a sense of which songs she likes. If that's acceptable for people of course, I can perfectly imagine people wouldn't be too happy with that since we literally share a household and it might be seen as a conflict of interest (although anyway I always only tell her my favourite songs after I sent my votes).
    • Announcement:   I'm going to extend the deadline for countries submission to Monday 30th September at 23:58 BST, with the voting now not opening to the public until Wednesday 2nd October at 23:58 BST. I felt this was necessary to do due to the lack of nations + the lack of some of the major players and not due to me failing to come up with an entry (@Vektor) that I will be posting after this announcement. This will be the last deadline that is moved, with the only dates potentially moving being the final dates.
    • looking at the  Junior WCH (U-20) results so far, seems like USA is gearing up. the target would be to challenge China in LA 2028 and snatch few gold medals here and there.   p.s: China is not participating in Junior WCH     I am wondering if we can see USA in good shape in Bahrain WCH too
    • Is Trump becomes President is he really going to let in the likes of Iran if they qualify. Fifa could protest if he won’t but sort of cancelling it they don’t have much leeway.
    • SLOVENIA  Magnifico - Hir aj kam hir aj go     Robert Pešut, better known as Magnifico is one of most established Slovenian singers. He started his solo career more than 30 years ago.   Few weeks ago, he celebrated this jubilee with special concert in front of more than 20.000 people on special site in Ljubljana. Maybe does not seem a lot, but here there were not many concerts played with that crowd.   He is known for his special type of humour in his music and lyrics. Around 20 years ago he sold album Export Import, from which most known song is "Hir aj kam hir aj go", which was received well in other countries, especially in Italy.   Just another fact, Magnifico wrote two Eurovision songs, Sestre - Samo Ljubezen (Only Love) in 2002 and also for Montenegrin performer Rambo Amadeus (Euro Neuro).   He tried himself to perform at Eurovision, but with his still very well known "Silvija", ended 5th in EMA 1998 (Slovenia National Final).   SONG LYRICS
    • Oh how I’ve missed Canucks hockey, Silovs with another beauty of a save
    • Round of 16 - September 24th    1 - 3     5 - 0
    • Think I'm gonna extend the deadline to another day, we've got plenty of time to spare and I shouldn't take too long to vote.
    • Today it was Olof’s 4th birthday. Love you my sweet boy.
