So there will be Top 8 seeds in every weight category.

Continental Champions + Runners up of Asia, Europe, Pan America

This is such a stupid decision. Why are they deciding the seeding only on the basis of a single tournament? And how is a European or Asian champion almost the same as an Australian or African champion?

Because they don’t really have much option once they decide to have seeds. The world championships were missed by a lot of countries. As were Euro champs. And once they established the pacific qualifying route, they had to acknowledge it

Boxing seeding has always been rubbish and some fighters have always had easier routes to a medal than others. Every non-seed will want to be on the side of the Aussies now but there’s still so much luck involved with the draw

Give seeds through the world rankings. As you pointed out, there is a little bit of a mess in some categories due to countries missing important championships, but overall it still seems like the best approach.

World Rankings cannot be used because boxing at Olympics is run by IOC so IBA rankings mean nothing. Moreover IBA tournaments violated the laws which didn't allow Russian and Belarussian flag to be used. Allowing them along with a number of transparency and governing issues made the tournaments redundant

    • Juniors were there recently and the track was awful   Although that's not necessarily bad. Tracks don't all need to be fast, a slow track (like the horribly slow one in Poland) simply favors a different style of athletes. Training a lot there doesn't really give much extra advantage though, not like in sliding sports where of course as host country you make sure your athletes know every single meter a year before the Olympics.    And to get back on topic: speed skater Elisa Dul broke her tibia and fibula in a training fall yesterday and will obviously be out of the OQT and so the Olympics.
    • The PSL race in Davos was (yet another) insult to a beautiful discipline. The red course (which was actually yellow) had several holes and an exposed ice sheet, which made the athletes slide way too long, causing DNFs or massive time losses. The only positive note is that Caffont won despite racing on the more dangerous course in the final

    • Not just Erin Jackson, but several others like for instance Joep Wennemars. Think of it what you may, it’s all down to the way the rules are written up. The rationale is probably to prevent that a rider that falls is automatically relegated to the B group.
