Patrick Peter :AUT suspended

The 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Disciplinary Panel has suspended Austrian player Patrick Peter for one game due to a checking to the head and neck area infraction.

The incident occurred at 11:33 of the first period in yesterday’s game between Latvia and Austria. Latvian player Roberts Bukarts was about to receive a pass in his own zone but didn’t touch the puck. Peter moved towards Bukarts and delivered a bodycheck hitting Bukarts’ head with his shoulder.

Peter’s feet also left the ice while delivering the bodycheck making him fall as well, landing on Bukarts. Bukarts fell to the ice and remained on the ice shook up for a little while before getting up and skating back to his team’s bench.

Peter was assessed a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct by the on-ice officials.

Based on the above facts the panel determined that the actions were dangerous, creating a serious risk of injury and violating IIHF Official Rule 124 (Checking to the Head and Neck Area).

The player was assessed a one-game suspension to be served in today’s game against Russia.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
