Athletes in tomorrow's finals who already won quotas

Men's K2

:CAN Poulin (quota in K4)

:CAN McTavish (quota in K4)

:ESP Germade (quota in K4)

:LTU Maldonis (quota in K4)

:HUN Nádas (quota in K4)

:AUS van der Westhuyzen (quota in K4)

:AUS Green (quota in K1)

Men's C2

:CZE Fuksa (quota in C1)

Women's K2

:DEN Jorgensen (quota in K1)

Expand

When I look at this info. Especially men's K2 looks to me that all the boats in final A may have the quota. Respectively, :AUS and :CAN the whole crew got the quota in K4. Which means that even though they took medals, the quotas would be reallocated to the boats below but despite the reallocation, they will still participate in K4 at the games and they will also have the opportunity to participate in K2 event if they want, right?

Yeah, I watch that, too. Often, we can find the right place where to watch for free or our long term prepaid channel, such as our national TVs or Eurosport. And then other platforms online. Here it's not expensive and it is also not a site where we have to watch nearly everything and hundreds of Euros on it. I would say at most 10 Euros to watch the whole canoeing WCH or try to watch as many ads as possible 😂😂😂😂. Not bad though....

So that means guaranteed quotas for :ESP :POL and :CHN right? - the quotas will go to all 9 A finalists and the winner of the B Final (assuming continental representation is met)

In semi-final 1, based on qualifying times, :NZL should come through quite easily - they were almost 2 seconds quicker than the rest of the field. Likewise, :AUS should also be able to come through easily enough. The last spot in the final is going to be the really interesting one - just 0.1 second separates the qualifying time of :CAN and :GBR. Add to that :SRB and :MEX were only a further 0.5 seconds behind so it could go to any of the 4.

In semi-final 2, :HUN and :GER have a second advantage over the rest of the field so should qualify. :NOR possibly start as marginal favourite for the 3rd spot as they were 0.5 second faster than :DEN

Nice prognosis :-) ..... Yeah, all the boats that qualify to Final A get the Olympic spot under the condition that all the continents are in the final or one continent is not there.

That is gonna be interesting counting. But I like your idea. Let's try to work on this somehow together. Anyways, there was some doubling up, but when I see how did the events change, I would guess there will be way less than before. I mean you may double K4 and K2. But distances have changed, some were excluded. Some of them really look like that many countries have selected way more carefully and still in many occasions they have each athlete competing in one Olympic events. At most 2 but there are not many athletes like this....

Let me try to discuss with you guys make it clear how many crews will actually qualify from this WCH. Please, correct me whether I made a mistake.

MEN

K1 1000m - 7 boats

K2 500m - 6 boats

K4 500m - 10 boats

C1 1000m - 5 boats

C2 500m - 8 boats

WOMEN

K1 500m - 7 boats

K2 500m - 6 boats

K4 500m - 10 boats

C1 200m - 5 boats

C2 500m - 8 boats

And if I may add an additional rule. For example. If a country qualifies K2 crew and nobody on K1 qualifies from any qualification event, the country is allowed to sign up a competitor to K1, but it must be a competitor who is a member of K2 crew.

Am I right about these qualification rules for this WCH and generally for signing up more boats?

SF1 - :SRB  :SVK  :CAN

SF2 - :UKR  :ITA  :LTU

SF3 - :ESP  :GER and then one of :HUN  :CZE  :FRA

We will likely have more than 7 European nations in the final, so qualifying for the final might not be enough for them. We got screwed really hard by this draw, Spain and Germany will take the top two spots in SF3 and we will have to fight against Czech Republic and France for our survival...

Expand

Well, I hope :CZE gets the spot. Sorry, but sometimes I believe that some countries have had enough of success and may leave a spot for someone else this time. Our K4 is struggling basically since Rio 2016, did not even qualify to Tokyo. And I hope this will be different this time. Not saying that Hungary will not qualify but maybe one of the "favorites" may not make it to the final. From our SF either Germany or Spain. We will see. Let's hope for the best of each of our countries. Anyways, still hoping also Czech women's K4 will qualify for the first time in the history, when it took many years and now they have the strongest crew I have ever seen. Let's hope :-)

Time for us to experience one of the most confusing qualification systems in action once again. But I guess it will be less complicated now that they removed two K1 events from the program. Still, the reallocation procedure might get a bit messy.

Expand

Agreed. I think they there will be some additional calculations after all the Olympic disciplines finish. Especially K4 and C2. Especially K4 from which will go 10 only from WCH. Still some decisions are really awkward. Such as shorting some distances to 500m. Or men's C1 is 1000m but women's is 200m. And removing K1 200m? Some of the decisions are really not smart at all.,...

I feel we never have enough "good info" for these Games ...... :GER K4 Kayak destroyed while reloading in Luxembourg by forklift  I have no enough face palm to express ..... Tom Liebscher says: "Boats likes this are only 2 in the world. One is now destroyed. The other is in Duisburg which we used for trainings."

Well, let's hope they will get it in time and will be able to fight for medal. These Games have already enough negativity ......

Well, look

I am very satisfied with the program of our federation, the group around K4 men does a really great job, The Peter Likér coaching group managed to establish a bunch of young talents in the senior competition very well. (names like Samuel Baláž, Csaba Zalka, Adam Botek, Denis Myšák, Mariana Petrušová & now also Lisa Mária Gamsjäger are all still young)

And speaking about our girls, it apply even more, both are not still only young but also very inexperienced, Gamsjäger competed in a senior international race for the first time in her career Yesterday ! I am convinced that in Paris in 2024 they both will be among the addepts for the finals.

Unfortunately, Tokyo is too early and in addition there is only few quotas available, in fact only one place remains in the game, it is not realistic to think about the qualification, there a lot of strong nations not qualified yet in W K2, especially the Germans are big favorites

Expand

That is great! Cheering for you, brothers :SVK Slovaks !!!!

Btw, the same or similar I can say about :CZE Sprint Canoe. The system has been very great since 2012 when we took first medal after a long time. Unfortunately generation change and our K4 did not make it to the Olympics. And it also seems that ladies are on the rise. Denisa Řáhová in canoe and Anežka Paloudová in kayak and the youngsters are also building 2 and 4 women/men boats. Hopefully, it will be even more interesting regarding Paris.

As for current qualified boats. K1 1000 - Dostál, K2 1000 - Dostál/Šlouf, C1 1000 - Fuksa. C2 1000 - Fuksa/Fuksa. I believe all boats have a great potencial for Final A in Tokyo and fight for medal.

That is incorrect, China would be allowed to compete in the K1 events. In fact, a nation can now enter up to two boats per event. The only requirement is that the nation must compete in the event they originally qualified in. So China can't have athletes compete in the K1 200m and K1 500m and skip the K2 500m in which they originally qualified in.

Are you sure about this? I remember this rule was during Rio 2016 or at least a bit similar. But I also read somewhere, can remember where it was that this rule is no longer valid .....

I have a confusion asking for help. China has got women K2 and K4 tickets with 6 full quotas. If China wants to send one of the 6 girls to compete K1, does she automatically eligible to compete like what Rio allowed or does she need to earn the ticket in World Cup ?
Federation thought two k1 events already automatically qualified and unnecessary to send athletes to the final World Cup. While I don’t see any documents confirmed they will follow the logic of Rio.

Expand

I am sure she has to earn a ticket for K1 event. Couple Olympics back, for example if there was K2 qualified but no K1, the country (competitor) could have decided whether it's worth to compete in K1, too. For now, you have to earn a ticket as far as I know. Just imagine that you have qualified for K4 but not for K2. So you would be able to build 2 boats for K2? I don't think so ...... In the past, maybe...... Now, not.

It is same in athletics. Just imagine that you qualify full relay but nobody for the individual event. So logically thinking, you may send all 4 competitors also for the individual competition. But qualification system says 'NO'.

looks like Peter Gelle who won the :SVK K1-1000m quota will very likely miss the games, he totaly flopped at the National races this week finishing only 6th and worse...

The composition of our K4 for Tokyo will be officialzed after next week Szeged race. The coaches decided to send there the 4 best of this week national races.

so the crew is

Samuel Baláž - Denis Myšák (Silver in Rio 2016) - Erik Vlček (39 years old legend, Silver in Rio 2016, Silver in Beijing 2008, Bronze in Athens 2004, 10 times K4 world champion may compete at his 6th Olympics which will be absolute Slovak record of all sports) - Adam Botek

if they manage to achieve the desired result in Szeged next week and will repeat it at the ECH then they will go to tokyo in this composition. Otherwise depending on the results Csaba Zalka may replace one of them.

Gelle however will have another chance at Szeged to defend his K1 quota. Also the K2 crew is finalized Samuel Baláž – Adam Botek

The whole team for Szeged OQ, Szeged WC and Barbaul OQ is here https://www.canoe.sk/sk/hladka-voda/clanok/navrh-nominacie-na-zaciatok-sezony-2021

What the hell happened to Gelle? I remember him competing against Dostál and nearly beating him at one WCH or ECH .....

    • Wrestling is getting a complete overhaul here and the scandals have began as usual.  I will lay a not so quick summary of the situation.   Last month there were Elections for the Wrestling Federation, where the legend Stanka Zlateva (2 OG medals, 5 World & 6 European titles) was elected President. Earlier in the year she very vividly blamed in the media the old guard for bringing in an armada of foreigners and allegedly destroying the Bulgarian kids in the sport. She also said, that they wanted to take away her junior wrestlers from her club and move them to national selections with different coaches, while she wanted to continue working with them.   After getting lots of attention Zlateva decided to run in the elections. She again was mentioning, that it was unacceptable to have so many foreigners and wrestling needs an overhaul. Going into the elections she had support, but wasn't a favourite. Don't know what exactly happened on the day, but everyone else (including the old regime) withdrew and Zlateva was the only one left.    A few days after she was elected there were news, that the majority of the Federation's employees were quitting and didn't want to work for her (probably encouraged from the old regime). At one point there were concerns that the teams could miss the European Championships, because of these organizational issues, but luckily they sorted it out.    Now that the Euro is over, today they announced that all National team coaches were fired.   The new NT coaches are:   Men's Greco - Stoyan Dobrev - UWW Coach of the year in 2023, he led Serbia to 4 Golds at the 2022 Worlds. After the revolution he did for Serbian Greco he is coming home to take over GR.   Men's Freestyle - Radoslav Velikov (Olympic Medalist, World Champion). As a coach, alongside Simeon Shterev, he had coached the Women's National teams of China, Azerbaijan and Russia until Covid. Then they returned to coach clubs here.   Women's Freestyle - Simeon Shterev - A veteran of coaching Women's wrestling for 20-30 years. He discovered Stanka Zlateva and was the biggest figure here during her reign. After her career there were some issues and he was practically exiled, hence why he went to lead the NTs of China, Azerbaijan and Russia like i mentioned above.   We will see what happens next and how they will try to "revive" Bulgarian wrestling, but it's not been a good start.   Yesterday there was another semi scandal. The Greco team returned from the Euro with a Gold and Silver and there were many people to greet them, but no one from the new Federation....
