There isn't much detailed data here about that (like, for each sport federation and so), but the budget for sport in 2018 will be around 59 million dollars. Since 2016 it has proggresively received big cuts with the government wanting to cut down public founding in every area of the state.
Not possible. And no one wants it (World Rugby, Unions or clubs)
I discussed it once with some russian user, teams could play 3 games max in the time the olympics last. Maybe 4 but that would be forcing it too much. Also it would be a "quota fiesta" with each team needing at least 22/23 players (+ all the injury replacements that are bound to happen).
Here is my take on it. As I have said several times in the past i'm philosophically against team events of individual sports (for me they don't add anything other than increasing the medal numbers of big nations). I will only make exceptions for Equestrian and Fencing because of "tradition".
As for new sports, I will only add Squash because they are big enough and have been trying for a long time already. Maybe Speed skating could enter too, but I wouldn't know what events to select to make the program (they are too many) so I will leave it out for now. I would like to see a return of Polo too someday, but I know it may not be very competitive if it's a free handicap competition (and handicap-limited competitions like the world championship don't make much sense to me, I want to see the best playing).

Skateboarding [4] Poorly organized, doesn't really wanna be part of the olympics anyway
Does anyone have any good documentaries to recommend featuring some story of past olympics? It can be about x country performance or an athlete/sport in particular, I'm more interested in olympics from Sydney and before. If it's in english or has subtitles then better, but if not I will still watch them.
PS. Before someone asks me: yes, I have already watched almost all ESPN 30x30 and what the olympic channel shows
^lol that thing about Maradona was that once in a tv show he said that some players drank a "quick coffee" ("café veloz", whatever that means for him) before a match against Australia.
The other players of that time however replied to Maradona and said they had no idea what he was talking about. Maradona usually makes up these stories about his times as a player when he is on tv I wouldn't take it seriously. The only drug addict is him.
We have an interesting twist in the Fancy Bear cases.
Jakob Fuglsang, who is between the latest names to be leaked, states that the leaked TUE documents are fake, as the TUE is actually from 2008 and not the 2016 games.
It's the same with the 2 argentines mentioned in part 4, those TUE were from 2010 and 2014.
It would be more useful if they released a list with all the athletes that took TUE during olympics, so we can see if USA is particularly taking advantage of it or not.
I can't see a problem. That's nearly the same like in the other team sport when favourite plays with outsider. Coach of the strong team did some changes in the squad. But the most players still played in all 4 games. Teams used their full squad.
More important to see how many changes were in the full squads of the teams with injured players. Let's look to group stage of 2015 World Cup since the teams were started their first game and until they were finished fourth. There are no teams that did more than 2 substitutes in this period. Many teams didn't substitutes in this period at all.
So there are no too much problems with it.
But at the world cup there are weak teams to rest players, in your format of 8 teams in which only 1 qualifies for final there are no possible "rest games" you have to play every match to the max or you lose. Rugby is very competitive among the top 10 teams, if let's say New Zealand doesn't play with their best team, they can lose to Scotland, for example.
Let’s see 2015 rugby World Cup group stage. I count all dates during group stage from and including day of the first game to and including the day of the last game for this teams.
At the Olympics we have 19-20 dates for 4 games. It's enough for format which I described or format with 2 groups with 4 teams (with finals but without semifanals). And all teams will start in one day.
After I counted this I think it's more possible than I thought before
Because almost all teams play with substitutes in at least one match during group stage....
Argentina and New Zealand for example played substitutes vs Namibia, Ireland and France did vs Romania, etc
Football takes 2 days before the Opening Ceremony. I think nothing can stop to take 1 day more for rugby.
So it will be 4 games during 19 days with 5 days of rest between fixtures. Final even can be 1 day before Closing Ceremony or it will be 1 day more for the rest. It's hard but possibly.
No, that's impossible. No professional rugby team can take that. You can have two games between 5 days rest maybe ONE time, but 3 times in a row will end with more than half of the team injured. And believe me, rugby players get injured A LOT. Even in regular club championships were they play once per week it's very common to rotate a bunch of players each match because many are injured.
I tried to forget about my and my country preferences how I can. And I will not write a lot about format of competitions, rules, qualification format, antidoping, referees, quotas because too many changes should be in many sports. It is about disciplines.
Rugby/football. 1. If men's football still will be junior it have to be removed. 2. Rugby-7 looks like a promo to rugby union and it have to be removed too. 3. Men's rugby union have to be add. 4. We have men's rugby union/women's football. 5. ???. 6. PROFIT
It's impossible to have a serious rugby union event in the span of two weeks. Players need at least 6/7 days of rest between matches.
In world cups there is even controversy when some teams are given "only" 4 or 5 days of rest between fixtures. During the olympics each team could play 3 matches max, which is not enough for any serious format of competition.
I think a team sport only can be replaced by another team sport and since Baseball has been included again (although not in very acceptable conditions), I don't see any other one with the strenght to enter the program.
What is a no no for me is adding team events of individual sports, the only purpose that always has is to gift more medals to strong nations.
