  1. I do like team events, as long as they add a team element Personally I count relays with physical contact in that list as well, like indeed the short track relay but also athletics relays and, alright, swimming (since actual physical contact as means of exchange doesn't work of course, but they do stand as a team instead of separate entities). Not like the godawful mixed relay in road cycling, where the men and women regularly don't even see each other the entire day of the race....how is that even remotely a 'team' thing
  2. Why, though? There is like literally zero teamwork in it...skeleton is inherently an individual sport, simply adding the times of two individuals doesn't really make it a team thing
  3. It's a link to Breitbart, the website that is as much related to journalism as McDonald's is to haute-cuisine dining
  4. With a list being here now: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_at_the_2024_Winter_Youth_Olympics Although that list is not entirely correct. It is in terms of athletes (as far as I know), but not exactly the sports. Julia Reis will indeed do cross-country skiing, but Mariana Silva will be doing biathlon. Nobody really understands why, because in the only IBU Junior Cup in which both competed, Julia was 14 minutes (!) ahead of her, but alright, the ever so mysterious ways of Brazil's snow sports federation I guess I'll ask if the boys are correct, or if one of them is also going to do biathlon. Edit: Mariana will apparently do both cross-country and biathlon, while Julia will only do cross-country.
  5. Yeah, that's just awful planning indeed. How on earth can such an oversight be made? Assuming it's not a conscious choice, because that'd be even dumber.
  6. Balkan Cup is getting close to start, which is often one of the more interesting races to follow in terms of FIS points. It starts off in Croatia, where oddly enough they've got classic mass starts on the schedule (odd, since interval starts give way better FIS points)....oddly enough, until you realize that in a mass start it's of course a lot easier to keep everyone close and make everyone finish with easy good points https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/event-details.html?sectorcode=CC&eventid=53805&seasoncode=2024 Curious how the results will be...
  7. Opening day of qualifying has been rained out entirely, not a single match was played today. "But the centre court, with a roof?!"....yeah....no, because the 'big shots' had to train there, and so actual competition was put aside in favour of privileged trainings..
  8. Why was Italy a massive favourite with all the bookmakers, despite Italy having a 'average' record in the past years and Hungary having won lots of big medals?
  9. No reason to mind Thanks for the information, I hadn't gotten to read the German news sites yet!
  10. One of the absolute all-time greats of football, Franz Beckenbauer, has passed away today, aged 78.
  11. To be fair, it's fine not to like a sport. Figure skating is apparently very popular, but I just truly don't care other than a few nice jumps in highlight videos, or maybe the top-3 in the Olympics. Meanwhile I love things like road cycling or cross-country skiing, which tons and tons of people find incredibly boring. To each their own
  12. Always a tough question Isle of Man TT perhaps, or the legendary alpine skiing downhills we get in January. Or the Le Mans and Nürburgring 24 hours....it's tough
  13. Good feeling about Schmied, she was also pretty impressive in her World Cup debut earlier this season.
  14. Polish former ski jumper Mateusz Rutkowski, 2004 junior world champion, has died, aged 37. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mateusz_Rutkowski Only 11 World Cup starts in his career, which already ended in 2006. I'm sure our Polish users have heard more about it, but according to Wikipedia there had been tons of problems with alcohol, weight issues and such. Sounds tragic
  15. Again? Also: Swiss women's team pursuit medal is awesome, just like Odor sprinting to silver (although that was slightly helped by a bad fall with Hoolwerf and the two French)
  16. Jules Lapierre beats out Moch in the fight for the stage win, both of them had only one previous World Cup podium (for both of them that was a 3rd place on this very stage, Moch in 2022 and Lapierre in 2023). Lapalus 3rd, Vermeulen 4th and Amundsen in 5th and overall winner, while Moch moved up to 2nd. Awesome final stage, as always, Alpe Cermis
  17. How I love the legal torture method called Alpe Cermis Mika Vermeulen (well, , officially) torturing the rest, damn. Moch has taken over though.
  18. Well, someone can buy it or not, isn't it at least simply logical to investigate things, when there are signs of bribes? The fact that there's an investigation doesn't mean anyone says it's proven, that's exactly why it's investigated. If there's signs of foul play, small or big, anywhere in life...an investigation is only logical to find out what happened
  19. There is an investigation going on though, and when there are clear signs that one of the head honchos of PSG is basically bribing the people who decide the Ballon d'Or winner, that is definitely worth an investigation, whether or not the global public wanted Messi to win.
  20. Fraud investigation going on around (among other things) the very, very questionable 2021 Ballon d'Or for Messi. https://www.essentiallysports.com/soccer-football-news-psg-reportedly-lobbied-for-lionel-messi-ballon-dor-win-amid-ongoing-legal-investigation/
  21. Super veteran Tarjei of all people was too late for the exchange
  22. At least now it's actually wintery
  23. -7 and strong wind in Oberhof, the men's lottery relay is about to start
  24. Right, it's still available on desktop at least, searching for that app led me to an actual website: https://eurovisionsport.com/ Seems like they renewed their website, they clearly don't understand the philosophy of not fixing something that's not broken, but alright. Too bad they kind of broke something that wasn't broken, since the player on that website doesn't even have the most basic hotkey functions (like Space for pause and the arrows to go forward or backward)
