  9. well, considering that the game was broadcasted on rai3 (which is a minor channel, with an average share of 6/7% in primetime) and started at 8 p.m. (when our primetime normally starts at 9.15/9.30 p.m.) on a saturday night still in Summer (and that it was available also online on dazn, which has its own decent number of viewers, especially now that they broadcast the serie A football), I think it's a very, very good result... there's no chance for sports other than football, F1, Valentino Rossi and sometimes the big cycling classics to make big numbers in Italy... the Olympic Games are always an exception because they grab a lot of occasional viewers that would never watch any other sport on regular basis...
  10. will Italy be so stupid not to take advantage of that (and not call up all the NHL/AHL available players), as it happened in 2006 when we said the IIHF we didn't need such a favour? Yes, I fear...

  12. so, after only 4 gamedays we already have the first couple of teams mathematically qualified to the knockout stage: they both come from group F, HC Fribourg-Gotteròn and Leksands IF... on the other hand, there are 5 teams that don't have anything to ask from this competition anymore, as they're already mathematically eliminated. They are: BK Mladà Boleslav in group B, Cardiff Devils in group C, SønderjyskE Vojens in group D and both Ocelàři Třinec and Slovan Bratislava in group F...

  16. it's absolutely normal for them... their boss only spend money to have a good team in March, when it's enough to win (or at least to make the final in) the EBEL... their start of the season is always a shame... p.s. still, they somehow managed to win on penalty shootout...

  19. you can add 1 more viewer from Italy!
  20. it's not that simple... it was closed in 2017 because the roof had major damages after a storm (it was raining down inside, just on the track)... then a fight between the local authorities (owner of the velodrome), the Italian Cycling Federation (those who were using the velodrome) and our NOC (the supervisor of all of our sports federations, the institution where formally the money given to those federations comes from -even if it all starts from the government, making funds available) started because nobody wanted to paid for renovation work... and since the track was dangerous because of the water coming down on it, a judge decided to put the velodrome under judicial seizure until all the required works were completed... as usual when the judges are part of the fight here in Italy, it took almost 3 and a half years to find an agreement between all the acting parts and 6 more months to complete the required work on the velodrome, but finally it became available for our NT to train just before the Olympics... now it should undergo some more renovation work in the coming months, so to be fully available also for some international competitions next Spring (knowing how things work here in Italy, I'm happy if the job is done by the end of the year 2022)... however, from next year on we should have a full time 250m track indoor velodrome available to our NT to develop some youngsters, hopefully not only in the endurance event...we need to get back to good level also in the sprint event sooner or later...
  21. Montichiari, near Brescia, eastern part of Lombardy (which actually is a 250m indoor velodrome, but it was closed for a couple of years until last spring because it was raining down the roof and because of some burocratic issues on permissions to adjust that problem...usual Italian troubles when it comes to construction work)... otherwise Wien in the cold months and on the many 400m outdoor tracks we have in Summer (mainly in Fiorenzuola d'Arda, near Piacenza, just a few kms south of Milan)...
  22. as lovely as it looks, it doesn't fit the "modern track cycling" anymore, I fear... in fact, it's used mainly (if not exclusively) as an american football stadium nowadays...
  23. it's on the Egyptian TV network On Time Sports (I saw some highlights on YT coming from OTS 3)... I saw quite a few links to their broadcast, but I fear they were all somehow illegal stuff... I don't know if they have some kind of official website/app where man can watch live and ondemand pictures from their channels? maybe our friend @thepharoah can tell us something more...
  24. first European league to start this season, the Belarussian Extraliga... today it's the opening day and we have 3 matches on the schedule... all details, here (sorry, it's in Russian/Belarussian, but google can always help...somehow...): https://www.hockey.by/ the championship opener is set for h. 17.45 CET, Shakter Soligorsk vs Metallurg Zhlobin for those who can't wait for some live hockey, here's the link: p.s. and stay tuned! tomorrow's the great KHL opener's day!
  25. the IOC didn't want anymore a double standard tournament, with the first part played only by the second tier teams (without the NHL players) and a very short second round + playoffs with only 8 teams playing with the NHLers (what happened to the Slovaks in SLC 2002 still hurts the IIHF)... at the same time, the NHL didn't want a 16-day tournament as it was before with 12 teams taking part to the olympics, so they came to an agreement...only 12 teams, NHL players playing the whole tournament, but at the same time a shorter tournament with that stupid format we have right now (in order to have a shorter break of the NHL regular season)... common interests, I guess...
