  1. This is the new rule, nobody gets a life ban, 4 years for the first time, 8 years for the second time ! (no idea about the 3rd time )
  2. Kostova wasn't in original list. this is only about positive tests from 2015 worlds, I think her sample is suspicious for another event lol The remaning 13 weightlifters are mostly from Kazakhstan, Belarus, North Korea and Moldova (plus Lovchev of Russia and a guy from KSA)
  3. Finally after MONTHS, IWF announced final decision about 10 more positive tests from 2015 World Championship, if we count the Turkmenistani guy who received his ban before, now 11 out of 24 cases are closed interestingly while they banned 3 other Russian weightlifters, still nothing about Lovchev ?! 4. I know it doesn't make sense but actually IWF was a part of this "administrative mistake" , they had to let him participate to avoid another story. they also let Rybakov participate in Asia because he missed the European because of meldonium , later they said he was innocent and instead let him participate in Asia
  5. lol I just wrote they hosted a tournament only because of him. he will go to Rio for sure unless he gets injured or something. he had some super crazy results in training, he just didn't participate anywhere to make those results official, in Iran Grand Prix , he came up only twice (1 in snatch and 1 in CJ) and finished with 400 which is enough for a medal. he can even go for 420 . Iran has chance for only 3 gold medals in Rio in weightlifting (actually 2 since Salimi is still injured) they can't afford losing one.
  6. well that was obvious when he didn't participate in World Championship in Houston (in USA where they are serious about doping) to compete in President Cup in Moscow to break World Record ! it doesn't make sense at all unless you have something to hide.
  7. This guy was banned for doping till October/November 2015 and because of some administrative mistakes (they wrongly announced him "retired" to WADA) he had to stay out of weightlifting until few days ago. and per IWF rules you have to compete in two tournaments to be eligible for Rio, that's why he is here, Ajan himself invited him. Actually Iran hosted a Grand Prix few days only and only because of him. he is a gold medal contender. btw we had Belarus in Asian Championship.
  8. It was supposed to be like that but they made a change few months ago.
  9. no, Best Asian team + top 3. which means simply top 4 btw, Didn't really enjoy the way our team played here in this tournament but YEAH we finally made it to the Olympics in Volleyball !
  10. and again according to Tamas Ajan one of those 10 doped weightlifters in London is from Iran (never thought one of our athletes can do drugs in this level that IOC can't find it at time !!!) we had 6 in London, Salimi, Rostami and Moradi just competed in Fajr Cup , which means they are clean, Anoushiravani who won silver in London is now head coach of the team and since he still has his job this is not him either, which means it will be either Nasirshalal (silver medalist 105kg) or Mohammadpour (5th place 94kg) and I can guess this is Nasirshalal which means we will probably lose a silver medal
  11. Kianoush Rostami just broke the oldest world record in Fajr Cup in Tehran , with 175+220=395 he broke both CJ and total records at 85kg.
  12. here is the link to the whole Interview which is obviously in Persian http://www.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=13950310001330
  13. apparently not the whole competition but some weight classes. but you never can be sure about these things in Iran Check these 2 links in time of the Group A competitions http://www.telewebion.com/#!/live/tv3/ http://www.telewebion.com/#!/live/varzesh/
  14. Tamas Ajan (IWF president) is in Iran right now for Iran Grand Prix, he had a little chat with Iranian journalists and according to him 20 weightlifters tested positive in IOC new re-testing, 10 from Beijing and 10 from London, including 5 gold medalists ! (1 Beijing, 4 London)
  15. oh yeah, thanks god someone else also remembers that dirty match, Asbaghi was leading by a big margin and this Achab guy (knowing he can't catch Asbaghi) tried his dirty tricks giving Asbaghi 9 cautions, one more was enough for disqualification. Asbaghi managed to survive that match though but poor guy he missed most of 2015 because of a surgery and therefore finished 7th in world ranking and missed the Olympics Achab uses his dirty tactics very often , I saw him doing it more than ten times. specially against good opponents. but that one against Asbaghi was something unbelievable.
  16. well, you can't ignore him but all of his achievements were in 63kg, and not the Olympic wight of 68 ! he only qualified by points he collected in 63kg events, he is a very dirty fighter, very disgusting. ALWAYS try to show fake injuries and give penalties to his opponents. I don't follow this weight as much as the rest (since Iran didn't qualify narrowly) but I think Lee Dae-hoon is top favorite here, with Tazegul and Denisenko behind him. I think the real competition in this weight will be between those 6 who qualified through ranking. I think considering him among 4-5 favorites is more logical even though I don't give him so much chance for gold.
  17. He is really tall and dangerous, he has chance for medal, actually this weight is more unpredictable among men's weights, there are something like 8=9 guys with good chances for medal. Silla is one of them. his height is his biggest advantage. but watch out for this guy from Niger is probably the biggest treat in this weight. I'm glad our Mardani won't face him in early rounds. (msot probably he has to face Kazakhstan)
  18. 3 now ! Payam Ghobadi beat Mbar and Sansum to make the semifinal and win a bronze medal
  19. His chance is more than good ! Actually I consider him the second (or even maybe the number 1) favorite for the gold in Rio. he is just destroying everybody, he was in much better shape than Khodabakhshi in past few months but still we have 2-3 months left and I expect our guy to peak at the right time. I just hope Iranian coaches know few tricks about how to beat him , btw on other hand his coach is also Iranian (former coach of Iran NT) which makes things even ! also I have to name this CIV guy Cisse, he is as dangerous as Beigi. actually Iranian coaches are very concerned about him.
  20. We had the Greco-Roman World Cup in Iran yesterday and Today, which won by Iran quite easily since other teams didn't send their top wrestlers (Iran would win the even after all) still beating Russia 8-0 is something. even if it wasn't even their B team. but most importantly in 3 or 4 weights this tournament was supposed to act as the Olympic qualifier at 66kg, both Noroozi and Zeidvand dominated their opponents , It's hard to pick one of them, I guess they will send both of them to Poland, it's also possible to pick Noroozi because of his past. at 85kg: Nouri won the trials was terrible here and this gives a great chance to Akhlaghi to make it to Rio. Nouri is only good for local competitions, I think they will probably pick Akhlaghi but sending both of them Poland is also an option. at 98kg: Rezaei and Aliyari were supposed to wrestle each other after the World Cup but Aliyari losing to a below average Turkish wrestler will probably cancel that match, Rezaei himself wasn't that convincing in the final but still he is the Olympic Champion ! I highly doubt they give Aliyari another chance. at 130kg: Bashir BBJZ was good here, they were supposed to evaluate his situation here, Ghasemi-Monjazi won the quota for Iran and he was absent here. with good performance of Bashir, I think the best decision is sending both of them to an international competition to determine the better wrestler Sourian (59) and Abdevali (75) are already selected.
  21. She has chance for medal, even Gold, she already beat both Jones and Calvo, she won one of Grand Prix events but she is still too young and winning Iran's first ever medal at the Olympics put a lot of pressure on her shoulder. beside that from what I noticed she gasses easily after few matches. by my calculations, she will face either Hamada (JPN) and the host nation girl and the other one in quarterfinal, I will be happy with a bronze and expect a bronze for her, Gold is too much to ask,
  22. This is somehow a good news, which means he won't be the last athlete in the ranking and Farzan won't face him in the first round. still it's dangerous which means this guy can get good results in Rio and advances to further rounds ! Farzan most probably will face the Thai guy in the first round
  23. Today was the last day of Kazakhstan Judo Grand Prix which is somehow the last qualification event before the deadline (we have masters later but only top 16 can participate) by my calculations Iran luckily qualified 3 athletes in Judo Javad Mahjoub (100kg) Saeid Mollaei (81kg) Alireza Khojasteh (66kg) as Continental Quota Mahjoub and Mollaei are by far the best Judokas in Iran and this kid Khojasteh was just lucky to win a silver in Asia and qualified for Rio only with one good result ! I just hope they send him to Rio , I have doubts because there is Israel in his weight and since he has no chance at all, they may not even send him to avoid future problems ! this is what they did to Javad Mahjoub 4 years ago when he was a youngster. they didn't send him to London by a fake injury.
  24. Maybe because of the level of foreigners are better this time ? or maybe because Iranians are not good in sprint events. honestly I don't follow Cycling that much, I hear the same names for something like 10-15 years ! and they always accuse each other of using drugs.
