  1. Greece just qualified!!!! We had to beat Bulgaria by +18 and we won by exactly 18 points! We led by only 15 and then scored basket-foul with 11 seconds left to go up 18. After our great 4th place finish in 2017, we surprisingly didn't qualify in 2019. We had many injuries and key players retiring, so this is a young team and I'm very glad we qualified. It is too early but if we keep improving I think we can make the 2024 or 2028 Olympics. We have some young girls coming up, Eleni Bosgana just turned 17 years old and she is supposed to be the next Maltsi for Greece.
  2. Can't help but think this news benefits Greece once again. Our women's team is so young and fighting for that last spot (duet will for sure qualify as always). The extra year + now an extra few months should really boost their chances considering a lot of our girls are 16/17 years old.
  3. Would this change the continental quotas? Or would the best fencers from each continent qualify based on how they do there?
  4. Haha I admit I didn't watch today but the score looks good for us. We have a very young team. Oldest player is Christina Tsoukala who is 29 and everyone else is 26 or younger. We have several teenagers also. I think we can build this team for the next few years with the same players and aim for Paris 2024. Best of luck to Italy as well. You have three years to rebuild your team. I'm sure this year would've been different if there were fans at the OQT.
  5. Yes I know, I was just saying it's a shame that we were so poor yesterday (especially in the second half) and then today we showed our potential. South Africa please do the right thing and withdraw
  6. I'm not watching but I see that we are leading 8-3. Why couldn't we score this many goals yesterday too?
  7. Δεν ξέρω για το Τόκιο, άλλα πιστεύω θα τα πάμε πάρα πολύ καλά στο Παρίσι...
  8. My predictions for Greece Archery: 0-1 (Evangelia Psarra is probably our only chance, it would be her 6th Olympic appearance but she is old now so I don't know) Artistic Swimming: 2-8 (We will definitely qualify in the duet. Team is 50/50) Athletics: 23-40 (We currently have 5 and there are many more who I'm 99% sure will make it off ranking, some others if they improve this year can make it and also hoping for a women's 4x400. We have many good young athletes that might not be ready for Tokyo but in Paris I expect a big team) Badminton: 0 Baseball: 0 of course (but our former national team player Nick Markakis was an MLB All-star in 2018 , and Moustakas in 2015/17/19) Basketball: 0-12 (our men's team should make it but they always choke and have bad luck with injuries in Olympic years) Beach Volleyball: 0-2 (Arvaniti/Karagkouni have some chances to qualify. Would be Arvaniti's 4th Olympics. They missed 2016 because of her pregnancy and got lucky with the postponement of Tokyo because she had an ACL injury and would've missed 2020) Boxing: 0-3 Canoeing - Slalom: 0-1 (small chance for Tsakmakis to make his fourth Olympics) Canoeing - Sprint: 0-1 (I don't know much about this sport but I know we have a young guy Dimopoulos who is decent but probably too young/inexperienced for Tokyo) Cycling - BMX: 0 Cycling - Mountain Bike: 1 Cycling - Road: 1 Cycling - Track: 1 Diving: 1-2 Equestrian: 0 Fencing: 1-2 Field Hockey: 0 Football: 0 Golf: 0-1 (there is some Greek guy from South Africa who is trying to qualify for Greece but I know nothing about golf and don't know if he is any good) Gymnastics - Artistic: 1-2 (assuming Petrounias makes it) Gymnastics - Rhythmic: 0-1 (chance for Eleni Kelaiditi. Our group surely won't qualify which would be the first time since 1996. They aren't good anymore) Gymnastics - Trampoline: 0 Handball: 0 Judo: 3-4 Karate: 0-2 (Eleni Chatziliadou was world champion in 2018 so she should make it, but she was injured and her ranking fell so I'm not sure what her current status is) Modern Pentathlon: 0 Rowing: 4-10 (we already qualified women's pair and will almost certainly make it in women's single sculls and men's single sculls. Also a very good chance for lightweight women's double sculls. Outside chances for women's double sculls, men's four and men's lightweight double sculls but a lot of these athletes are too young and probably will make it in 2024) Rugby Sevens: 0 Sailing: 8-10 (we already have 8) Shooting: 3 Skateboarding: 0 Softball: 0 Sport Climbing: 0? (I know absolutely nothing about this sport) Surfing: 0? (I also don't have a clue) Swimming: 10-18 (we already have 7 and I think we'll get several more. Outside chance for men's 4x200 freestyle which would give us more athletes that probably can't make it individually) Table Tennis: 1-2 Taekwondo: 0-4 (Telikostoglou should make it as he won silver at 2019 World Championships. Tzeli was a medalist at the 2018 Youth Olympics and should have a better chance to make it now that she got an extra year. We have a few others with outside chances) Tennis: 2 Triathlon: 0? (no idea) Volleyball: 0 Water Polo: 13 (unless South Africa and/or Russia don't go and our women make it too) Weightlifting: 2 Wrestling: 1-2 Total Sports: 28 Optimistic Total Athletes: 154 Realistic Total Athletes: 117 Pessimistic Total Athletes: 78 (My math might be off. Every time I added them up I got different numbers
  9. Sorry to Italy. Looks like we will watch together from the couch Also maybe Hungary can finally win a medal. Greek player Stefania Charalampidi (now Stephania Haralabidis) will win a medal for USA and probably gold. Quite sad that she ditched her country and national team the minute she got the chance to play for USA but I guess most people would do the same in her position.
  10. Very true, also we don't know what will happen with Russia either. Unfortunately our team totally collapsed in the second half and couldn't find the back of the net. We had 10 possessions with an extra player and couldn't score on any of them. The only good news is that we have a very young team and probably everyone from this team will be back in 2024, so we can build and improve. Not as upsetting as 2012 and 2016, probably because this time we didn't expect to qualify.
  11. Well it's done. Congrats to the Dutch girls. Hopefully we can make it to Paris 2024...
  12. Greece 0 for 8 with one extra player. We really need to be capitalizing on these opportunities.
  13. So the loser of Greece vs Netherlands will miss out on the Olympics for the third consecutive time. For the Netherlands, it would be three non-qualifications after 2008 Olympic gold. For Greece, it would be three non-qualifications after 2011 World Championships gold. Who could've possibly expected this back then?
  14. For some reason it isn't working on my computer but works on my phone
  15. Fun fact: Tsoukala made her Olympic debut at 17 in Beijing 2008 where she had an infamous wardrobe malfunction. Probably didn't expect that to be her only Olympic appearance. Now she's 29 and our team captain and oldest player. Another fun fact: She is half Greek and half Icelandic
  16. I thought they reversed that and are now allowing 13 players per team?
  17. Watch from 3:07:00 to 3:08:20 and 3:17:00 to 3:19:30. Crazy emotions. I don't want a repeat of this on Saturday I remember watching this when it happened and I always have painful memories from this game. And our legend and former FINA World Player of the Year Alexandra Asimaki at 3:20:57. So heartbreaking to see her like that. But this is why we love sport, there are good moments and bad moments.
  18. At least with this draw one of Greece/Netherlands will qualify. Neither team has made the Olympics since 2008.
