  1. 2023 U19 World Championships Silver: Nikolaos Cholopoulos and Dimitrios Papazoglou (men's double sculls) Sofia Dalidou and Gavriela Lioliou (women's double sculls) Panagiotis Makrygiannis (men's single sculls) Christina Papaioannou and Dimitra Papaioannou (women's pair)
  2. Athletics +1 Emmanouil Karalis (men's pole vault) Swimming +2 Stergios Bilas (men's 50m freestyle) Kristian Gkolomeev (men's 50m freestyle)
  3. The boys did it! Our 6th time in the semifinals of the World Championships. So far we have never made the final. Hopefully this is the first time we make the final. Every time we either lost by 1 goal or via penalty shootout (except in 2017 when we lost by 2 goals), so we've been close many times before but never won Also will be nice to secure our Olympic quota from now so next year I'll only have to stress about women's water polo and men's basketball
  4. Our guys just don't want to win. We had 6-3 against Montenegro and now the score is 7-7...
  5. Bronze medal match: 1 - 3 Κρίμα αξίζαμε το μετάλλιο...
  6. What an embarrassment for us, losing 8-9 to Australia. They are a good team but we did not score any goals in the last 13 (!!!) minutes... This is now the 6th WC in a row where we lost in the quarterfinals Thankfully, Italy may have saved our Olympic chances. Now we just need Spain to beat Australia and then we will be closer than ever to Paris (though I am still worried about Canada next year in Doha but we'll see).
  7. 2023 U23 World Championships Gold: Evangelia Anastasiadou and Dimitra Kontou (women's lightweight double sculls) Bronze: Evangelia Fragkou (women's single sculls)
  8. So we ended with gold in LW2X with a world U23 record, and bronze in W1X. This was the worst World U23 Championships for us since 2017. It could have been one of the best ever if we actually sent more than 3 women's crews. LW1X, W2- we could've easily won medals as well as W2X, where we finished 6th with our U19 combination that did okay but were clearly not ready to win a medal at this level.
  11. We were down by 5 at halftime against USA, needed the win to advance directly to QF and scored the winning goal with 2 seconds left Also we are without one of our best players, Angelos Vlachopoulos, who stayed in Greece because his mother is in a very bad condition
  13. W2x final didn't happen yet and Lithuania didn't even send a boat in that class. Lithuania won gold in W2-
  14. Only 4 A Finals for us. Pretty disappointing, and we will probably end with just 1-2 medals... A lot of this is the federation's fault. M.Kyridou, Natsioula, Gkogkou, Argyraki, Asvesta all could've won medals (for example we could've had W2- and W4X or something), but we didn't send any of them...also no LW1X when we could've sent Leventelli to easily win a medal. Arabatzi also won bronze at the 2021 WU23 in W2X as an 18 yo and has not competed for the national team since. Nothing but shame time and time again...
  15. Due to the heat wave, our National U20 Championships which were supposed to take place this week will be now held in September. Also, the Balkan U20 Championships were already cancelled. So our U20 athletes now will not have many opportunities to achieve standards for the upcoming European U20 Championships...
  16. I also thought we would win but by 2-3 goals maximum. However, we won with 16-12. We led comfortably most of the game by 5-6 goals. I did not expect it to be easy even though the Italian team seems to be declining and we seem to be improving lately. We had 4 different players with 3 goals each (Eleftheriadou, Ninou, E.Plevritou, V.Plevritou) Also, it's quite interesting that 5 of the 16 teams here have Greek coaches
  18. Our girls are in the semifinals of the European U17s. They won all 7 matches in their group. It's a pretty big deal because we are not really a good volleyball country. They also won the Balkan U17s recently, beating several strong teams along the way.
  19. We won gold last year at the World U19s in W1X, W2-, and W2X. Of those 5 girls, only one of them is competing this year at the World U23s. Really, really disappointing how these talents go wasted like that in this sport...
  20. She said she didn't have enough time to practice and only started preparing this choreography last month, and usually she has about a year to prepare, and that she also made some mistakes yesterday. So it seems her expectations were quite low and she is okay with 4th and 5th place. She added that she would have liked to compete in other international events to adjust to the new system, and that she only did one other this year, unlike other athletes who did more. Overall, she seemed pretty optimistic about the future and her main goals are Doha and Paris.
