  1. My own predictions for Germany: 30-32 medals
  2. The 100 best male footballers in 2023 according to The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2023/dec/19/the-100-best-male-footballers-in-the-world-2023 Some interesting choices. Personally i find it difficult to for example compare a goalkeeper and a striker, i think it would be better to have a top 10 for every position.
  3. I really would have liked to nominate Bellingham for the breakthrough award, but i don't want to take any of the other athletes off the list. Maybe he could be a candidate next year (if he wins the european championships and/or the champions league), but i guess he was already too good this year for him to still possibly qualify for the breakthrough award next year. I think someone like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander belongs in the same category.
  4. My predictions: Male: Alcaraz or Marchand Female: Biles or McIntosh Youth: McIntosh Men's team: USA basketball Women's team: Spain football Breakthrough: Extremely difficult to predict, possible candidates: Kharun, Pan Zhanle, Wiffen, Heilman, Laros, Zhoya, Neugebauer, Topic, Furlani, Zaire-Emery Comeback: Extremely difficult to predict, possible candidates: Dressel, Miller-Uibo, Thompson-Herah, Van Niekerk, Mihambo, Wlodarczyk, Thiam, Peaty, Nadal Breakthrough: Only athletes who never won an individual medal on the world stage before Comeback: Athletes who underperformed the previous year or didn't compete due to injury I think in a year with summer olympic games most awards will go to athletes who excelled at the olympics, which will make it difficult for athletes in winter sports to shine. If this wouldn't be an olympic year, i could have seen someone like Botn win the breakthrough award. Maybe it would be better to have all awards seperated by winter and summer sports. Personally i find it difficult to hand awards to winter sports athletes when they compete against summer sports athletes (since there is usually more competition in summer sports).
  5. Not a fan of some of the categories. Would like to see categories like "best athlete over 40" or "best athlete by continent". Nominations: Male: 1st choice: Djokovic 2nd choice: Marchand 3rd choice: Boe 4th choice: Odermatt 5th choice: Stolz 6th choice: Vingegaard Female: 1st choice: Kipyegon 2nd choice: O'Callaghan 3rd choice: Biles 4th choice: Shiffrin 5th coice: Vu Youth: 1st choice: McIntosh 2nd choice: Lebrun 3th choice: Zaire-Emery 4th choice: Lee Chae-un 5th choice: Brookes 6th choice: Qiyuan Breakthrough: 1st choice: Haiyang 2nd choice: Stolz 3rd choice: Gauff 4th choice: Malinin 5th choice: Loutitt 6th choice: Tebogo Comeback: 1st choice: Biles 2nd choice: Meilutyte 3rd choice: McEvoy 4th choice: Johnson-Thompson Men's team: 1st choice: Germany basketball 2nd choice: Denmark handball 3rd choice: South Africa rugby Women's team: 1st choice: Spain football 2nd choice: Australia women's 4 x 100 m free relay 3rd choice: Australia women's 4 x 200 m free relay 4th choice: France handball
  6. Probably billions, but what about the trillions of people who have died from air pollution caused by algerian natural gas?
  7. Sounds like an amazing country. Maybe you should tell the millions of people from Africa who come to Europe every year, apparently they walked right past heaven on earth to come to an inferior place like Europe where everything is horrible. I really wish you were right, maybe then they wouldn't all "flee" to Europe. When i look at the quality of your healthcare/education system, it is no surprise that they are free, i seriously doubt that anyone would pay for those "services".
  8. Yes, i vividly remember all those discussions about human rights violations by China (Uyghurs), Myanmar (Rohingya), Turkey (Kurds) or Azerbaijan (Armenians). Obviously you are happy playing in the sandbox with the other children, but once you grow up you will hopefully realize that people in power only care about their interests, no remotely powerful person (regardless of nationality) really gives a shit about human rights. Human rights are used as a tool to hide that is is only about power/money. If everyone would just concentrate on negotiations that focus on their interests, it would save us a lot of trouble/hypocrisy, but obviously the people in power don't want the rest of the population to realize this (because then they would be less willing to act against their own interest, just because it is "the right thing to do").
  9. Nope, the reason why muslim countries are trash is the inferior intelligence of their population (high level of inbreeding) and the high level of religious observance. Europeans freed themselves from religion centuries ago. Now countries like Algeria can keep all those resources and yet they are still extremely poor, so maybe it is time to find a new scapegoat. If you want to stop being poor, you should get rid of relgious fanaticism. Muslim regions used to be much more competitive, but then they chose religion over enlightenment. Also you should look into how much europeans actually earned with their colonies and if you want to lead an honest discussion you should also mention the cost of everything that europeans built in those countries (infrastructure). You should also look at the GDP per capita of countries that were never colonized and ask yourself why the GDP per capita in those countries isn't higher than the GDP per capita in countries that were colonized. https://bigthink.com/the-past/islam-rationality-modernity/
  10. I think it would make you are more productive member of society if you would realize that this is just your opinion and that it will be very difficult (to say the least) for you to prove (if you can't prove X, then you can't treat X as a fact) that someone/something is awful. How would you measure/quantify the attribute "awful"?
  11. They should switch to indoor races and move them to Saudi Arabia/Qatar.
  12. That is just an absurd take. They usually celebrate him. On SwimSwam there is some bias against swimmers from Australia/Russia/China, but not against Ceccon or italian swimmers in general. At the end of 2022 Ceccon was ranked 4th in their top 100 for 2023 (behind Milak, Marchand and Popovici) and some were arguing that he should have placed even higher. https://swimswam.com/swimswams-top-100-for-2023-mens-10-1/
  13. I absolutely disagree. Nice to see all those cheaters finally getting caught. Of course it will take time for them to adapt after using an illegal technique for so long.
  14. Interesting take ... 1) Could you please tell me when exactly Paschke was in that kind of shape before? 2) Geiger was 2nd in the world cup standings in 2022 (and 2020) and won an individual bronze at the world championships last year. 3) Wellinger was 7th in the world cup standing last season after coming back from an injury.
  15. When exactly was that? All i remember is that the Ottoman Empire conquered countries like Algeria and made them their ***. European countries are small because they could get all their resources from shitholes like Algeria, no need to expand on the continent to get access to more resources. Also not sure how the size of a country is an indicator for how well a country is doing. The richest countries are usually rather small (Qatar, UAE). Meanwhile large countries like Algeria or Iran are a joke. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regency_of_Algiers
  16. Sure ... those clowns are barely brave enough to attack defenseless children and women. https://ciaotest.cc.columbia.edu/olj/meria/meria00_den01.html
  17. Good to see, but still way too early for conclusions. So far it looks as if it might have something to do with the material in both biathlon (fluor ban) and ski jumping (3D measuring). On the other hand it doesn't look very good in cross-country skiing and nordic combined. To put today's biathlon results into perspective: Concerning the men's result: Individual World Cup wins during the last season: 1 Individual World Cup podiums during the last season: 5 Individual World Cup podiums during the last season if we exclude Benedikt Doll: 2 Last time that German athletes finished first and second: January 8th 2017 Last time that two German athletes made the podium: March 24th 2019 Concerning the women's result: Individual World Cup podiums during the last season: 7 Individual World Cup podiums during the last season if we exclude Denise Herrmann: 0 Last time that two German athletes made the podium: March 13th 2020 Overall: Last time German athletes finished first and second (male or female): March 13th 2020
  18. Amazing news for the Netherlands and Europe (if it holds up). Yesilgöz not winning is/would be a huge win.
  19. God told Milei to get into politics (according to Milei's own account), so obviously you are wrong.
  20. Yes, no leader (muslim countries included) would have a problem if all people in the Gaza strip would be killed. The only thing they care about is not having to take in more refugees. Other muslim countries clearly don't give a shit about palestinians, otherwise the least thing they should do is to provide organizations like UNRWA with more money. Israeli leaders can do whatever they want as long as they don't make this the problem of anyone else (by creating a new wave of refugees).
  21. Sure, whatever you need to tell yourself. Have you looked into the donations of the owners of Meta, Alphabet and all the other tech firms? Imagine if they use the money they earn with you to then support Israel?
  22. https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/n5cmq5/inbreeding_by_country/
  23. Sadly (for you)/Luckily (for the people involved) that isn't how it works. Those people don't want to come to Germany, so it doesn't matter whether i would take them in or not.
  24. You mean we should also stop giving money to Algeria?
  25. Would be great if you could provide sources for your claims (like i do). You realize that Germany and the EU are also sending aid to Palestinians, most likely (much) more than Algeria? You never heard of UNRWA before? How does that fit into your narrative that the West doesn't aid palestinians?
