He's now representing a European country, which for friend @rajiv now automatically means he is among the worst people on Earth. I'm surprised he isn't calling for Richardson to be banned.

The Australian track bike from Paris cost around $100,000 so their budget would seem to be pretty healthy in the grand scheme of things

JamDH got a reaction from Josh in Winter Olympic Games French Alps 2030 Sports Programme
I feel like I'm going crazy when I read these stories. Isn't it obvious and common sense that the point of the winter games is for things on snow and ice, looking at what is already on the programme and has been throughout history? It might be done in winter similarly to how we sometimes here describe rugby as a 'winter sport' but that's a whole different meaning to the phrase winter sport than the one we use for the Winter Olympics. I don't even think it needs explaining it's that obvious.
It's all about a new part of the world to have a shot at something.

Really sound points made.
That artistic swimming medal is one of the stories of the games for me - they have such a great backstory with their mums competing for GB back in the 90s. Hope it gets the sport some exposure in the country.
Climbing looks to be in a good place. I do wonder why we don’t manage to get anyone through on the speed side of things, something to maybe consider. There’s no doubt though the lead/bouldering is absolutely thrilling to watch.
Cycling it’s tricky to say without Kate Archibald what could have been. The Canadian team have been dealing with a nasty sickness bug and you do wonder if something is going around the velodrome, much as it did the swimming teams.
Boxing is a rebuilding cycle but also I think we and many other counties were screwed out of medal chances by dodgy judging. Wouldn’t be bothered if it didn’t feature in LA.
Modern Pentathlon - Choong has already said he wants to take up fencing full time and will leave when obstacle courses are brought in. He has also said he didn’t want to compete and he’s upset because his girlfriend wasn’t selected. Obviously a lot going on there and I think he needs to take some time away to figure out what he wants. Brown seemed a solid competitor who could develop, but questions over the format going forward.
Sailing is really disappointing. Micky Beckett was tipped as the next Ben Ainslie by Shirley Robertson. As you say an overall disappointing regatta salvaged only by Ellie Aldridge on a new discipline. Lessons to be learned.
Major positive is rowing. Abysmal in Tokyo, yet here they are in Paris as the sport providing us with the most Gold medals. Proves that lessons can be learned when needed.
They’ll go away and learn their lessons I’m sure, on to LA2028!

63-65 will be the likely split tomorrow between Campbell, Finucane and Bryson/French. This has not been a successful games but any stretch but it's also not been bad - disappointing is the best way to describe it. Our likely final position in the medal table of 6th-8th best reflects our performance as a nation during the entire cycle, and a poor qualification campaign that started off so well and a dissapointing games packed with near misses after having the best 1st week in our history. The truth is we're going through a transition where we have older athletes in their last who aren't good enough any more to get to that top step and younger athletes in their first games who aren't experienced enough or have that clinical edge to take to the top step of the podium and this is reflected in our position in the medal table and our number of golds with our talent pool being reflected in the number of medals won. LA was always gonna be Rio 2.0, this was essentially just try and replicate what we did in Tokyo which we unfortunately failed to do.

Oh come on we weren't lashing them with tons of abuse we were just voicing our dissapointment with how a golden opportunity slipped through our grasp by not taking our opportunities within the race, of course silver is still a good achievement considering how they performed but if what most of us said is considered abuse then I don't know what is.

Because I think that's roughly where a country with our population size/ money invested/ and talent capable should be finishing. 20 golds is about where GB should be at, we wont this time and thats fine, next is to avoid the "worst gold medal return since athens" kind of talk. Therefore aim for beijing total. Not everyone in the country supports the amount of money we spend on sports and will be happy for a reason to have a pop.
Would you genuinely not be disappointed in the squad a whole if, lets say, we end up with 14 golds and finish 6/7th in the medal table?

I get where Epic is coming from, he's come through a torrent period in the 80s and 90s where we couldn't even buy a medal let alone the amount we have now, but given our recent success I think it's somewhat understandable for some of us to be annoyed at getting silver instead of gold (even though silver is still an amazing feat) as we're now a top sporting nation and we should really be producing more champions than we have done so far.

I understand you of course want a forum to be a positive place because nobody wants to sit and read people moaning and whining, and objectively the results overall are good in the grand scheme of things, but if you can't get why people are finding the past week frustrating then I don't know what to say. I'm not trying to be rude.

20 Million funding vs how many 100 millions for these games. No reason to lose to Australia

Because she was trying to keep that group motivated. Kopecky/Vos/Borghini were starting to play games. Which meant that they were losing their lead. Which is why Henderson and Deignan had caught the group back up.
Georgi was always the most likely medalist but they are trying to either break other riders/keep ahead of the like of Dygart behind.

Richardson saves the boxing team's blushes by winning his QF and collects at least bronze.

So glad that Andy went out fighting. It looked like they'd limp out but, as the commentators said, they somehow got us believing again. It was a little too late for this match but still amazing to watch Andy (with Dan's help) rage against the dying of the light.
The 42 consecutive weeks at number 1 and the 2 Olympic titles probably a better measure of his quality than the number of slams. If he was 10 years older he would have had three times as many. The people who love to put him down like to say it was never a big 4 but for about 4 years it absolutely was.

I don't think Olympicsnell was *expecting* a gold in the road race. They were using that as an example of the events which are a lottery and which can determine whether this is a 'good' Olympics or a 'great' Olympics.
Hell, the BMX racing is another one. Shriever has looked great but the event has so many crashes that you wouldn't expect a gold from it, even if you have a strong contender. You can easily get taken out even if you do nothing wrong. It's not like, say, swimming, where the chance of being taken out should be pretty low.
