Link to the post I just made about me meeting an Olympian today.
I could drive down to Charleston to see the Tennis Open happening there now, but I'll save that for next year.
Awesome story! Always cool to meet Olympians. I’ve gotten to meet 2 Olympians thanks to my old job.
They don’t get much fanfare unless it’s an Olympic year so they always seem to be really friendly.
PS I’m jealous of your quads & the weather down there lol

Well it's a dog-eat-dog world out there. We got 2 tix for women's volleyball final, 2 for preliminary round of mens platform diving, and 4 for a beach volleyball preliminary session, 4 for mens basketball prelim doubleheader and two for a prelim women's football match. Opening ceremonies were sold out, as were gymnastics finals, and a lot more with only the very very expensive tix remaining.
Lots of bugs and glitches too. Took three tries to get it right.
@clemsonbeav I will get to your pricing questions shortly.
The LA28 X account posted that events technically aren’t “sold out”. They just haven’t released the full batch of tickets for that event yet. So gymnastics/ceremony tickets could be available in future ticket drops.

Yeah we are definitely the best at funding women's sports at that all started at the NCAA level after Title IX.
That was probably the most impactful piece of legislation that has ever passed related to sports.
USA has and will continue to push boundaries in women's sport like no other nation.

I didn't get to see the game...but not a pretty result vs.
for our men...
Ugly result. They played well in the first half. Made some subs and our lack of depth compared to Belgium showed.
The bright side: now we know which players can be competitive against a top 10 team in the world and which players are totally out of their league competing against a top 10 team in the world.

Earlier this month, we had National Team Trials, which were preceded by the National Championships. Some of our top dogs didn't compete in the Championships, and some didn't even do Team Trials because they were preselected. After all is said and done, here are the teams:

Annie Sanders
Brooke Raboutou
Ella Fisher

Colin Duffy
Auggie Chi

Ben HannaSome names are familiar for me like Colin Duffy, Sam Watson and Brooke Raboutou. But, do you think the LA28 team will be made up of a mix of these athletes? Anybody on this roster that I should pay attention to as a casual sport climbing observer?

I went to LA84. We stayed in Santa Monica which wasn't a bad central spot. We did have a car and drove almost everywhere. The big venues (Santa Anita, velodrome, UCLA, USC, basketball arena) had parking, or shuttle lots. Don't know if they will be doing that as much this year since they have a better transit system. We did the budget tickets; mostly seeing prelims (often in the morning) which left afternoon for playing tourist. I agree that Long Beach looks like a good spot to stay this time as there are lots of events there. Or focus on what you absolutely have to see and stay near there. In 84 the locals mostly stayed home or left town so traffic wan't too bad.
Also focus on what is great to see live and what is better on the tube. Or go to events in big arenas, where you are more likely to get tickets. Pick some of the more obscure sports. We saw basketball, volleyball, swimming, equestrian, track cycling, and track & field (the first woman's marathon!), 1 event per day except track where we did morning and afternoon sessions. They are also drawing out the length of sessions so they run longer, meaning fewer events per day, but that means more days to see something.
It really was a once in a lifetime experience - hopefully twice for me if the tickets and travel work out - so try to go if you can, even if just for a few events.
Thanks for the tips!! Yes, I heard seeing more obscure sports is a good strategy for finding cheaper tickets. I'm going to avoid any sport I can see at home (baseball, basketball, soccer, golf).
I have a list of events that I would LOVE to see and a secondary list of events that are my plan B. Hoping everything works out even though I know I won't be able to see everything I want to.

I'm already scared for ticket prices. 5 million ppl signed up for only 14 million tickets (and I think that number is for Olympics and Paralympics)
As long as they are not as outrageous as the FIFA World Cup tickets...

On to Week 11: A bit of everything!
In Tennis - The Miami Open will be wrapping up. Plenty of USA folks left!
We've got a lot of Road Cycling - Volta a Catalunya, and several races in Belgium. Not sure who will be racing.
Amanda Sobhy will be in Wimbledon playing Squash in a tournament there.
Major Equestrian Jumping event at Wellington...a cool $1,000,000 prize there. (So much money in this sport.)
Another Beach Volleyball Challenge event in Mexico.
Shooting is opening in Tangiers with a shotgun event.
We've got Épee and Sabre World Cups in Fencing
Artistic Swimming and Open Water Swimming each have a world cup.
And for the BMX fans, we've got Nationals in Freestyle and Racing. The racing is about an hour away from me in SC, but I can't find good info about exactly what time...and I'm also leaving the next day for Spring Break, so I might have to let this one pass...
One more Archery indoor competition in Vegas
Sailing has its first major regatta (Trofeo Princess Sofia)
USMNT has a friendly vs.
in Atlanta
Our Men's Rugby Sevens team has one last prelim competition in São Paulo
And finally, World Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics
(I mean, it's basically the Olympics every weekend, right? Just gotta know where to look.)
Excited to see how our men’s soccer team looks this week vs two really good opponents. Huge opportunity coming this summer at the World Cup!

These are the teams I think will qualify for the WC this window:

Hoping for some debutants to qualify!

Jessie Diggins competed in her final race today (placing 12th). She won the Crystal Globe for finishing the World Cup season with the most points!
What a career!!

Yeah the NFL teams are having real troubles on defense. USA has scored on every possession in their two games. We better send Team USA to LA28.

I'm enjoying this a little more than I thought I would.
Of course, it might be seeing the like of Joe Burrow, etc., and it's a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
(If we don't win this gold in LA...)
Yeah we should be the favorites obviously. I know we are only one game in, but this event is telling me that we need to send Team USA to have the best chance at winning gold.
A team full of NFL stars would generate a lot of buzz, but I doubt they will end up performing better than Team USA.

Halftime of Team USA vs Wildcats. USA has a 19-6 lead.
Not a surprise, but the Wildcats are really struggling on defense, especially pulling the flags. USA's offense looks way more smooth as well. Good start for USA.

Big weekend for flag football. The Fanatics Flag Football Classic will be from 4 p.m. ET to 8:30 p.m. ET on FOX. It will be at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, the stadium that will host Olympic flag football.
There will be three teams
- Team USA Flag Football
- Founders FFC
- Wildcats FFC
Founders FFC is captained by Tom Brady and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts with Sean Payton of the Broncos as the head coach.
Wildcats FFC is captained by Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels with Kyle Shanahan of the 49ers as the head coach.
Both the Founders & Wildcats will feature a roster full of NFL stars, and Logan Paul and IShowSpeed are playing for some reason (eye roll).
The teams will play a round robin with the championship game at 7 p.m. ET.
The games will be in Olympic format, so it will be a nice peak as to what flag football will look like at LA28.
This also could have big implications when it comes to which players will be on the team in LA28. Will it be Team USA flag football? A roster of NFL stars that are relatively unfamiliar with the sport? A mix of both? We shall see!

They're European, so better than us lol. Also idk if they sent their B team or whatnot. But still. Wasn't a million to none.
Exactly, but I know
isn't a great handball team. They've never made the Olympics before. But, still good for us to hang with them.

Confession: I don't really do March Madness. I hardly pay attention to non-Olympic/international sport. The closest thing I get is college football, but even that is not as much as I used to. (I was in the band at Clemson, so I was at essentially all the games and loved following it.). And South Carolina doesn't have any pro teams, so I don't really do pro sports, either. (All these guys in the WBC were new to me.)
Fair. I follow a bit of everything pro and college sports are just so ingrained into the culture in Michigan that it's hard to not pay attention. We have a team in the four major pro sports leagues + 2 very high-profile colleges.
March Madness is fun, but it kind of dies out for me after the first weekend. The fun is mostly had in the first few days when there are big upsets by schools you've never heard of beating big teams. Plus, it's non-stop basketball on the first few days, which is fun.
