Incredible, had to nearly force myself to stay watch it. And to come out on top in such a high standard final as well, amazing stuff! Word for Ben Healy as well, brilliant performance in the road race, great to see an Irishman out front giving it a real go, finished 10th but arguably deserved better

I will add though, that perhaps some changes in the corner could be needed going forward. I had heard before about how they had never been using as much video analysis in sizing up opponents pre-fight, yet a number of Irish fighters this Games seemed to get things very wrong tactically. And a number just didn't perform to their ability, whereas in previous Games, especially when Billy Walsh was in the setup, we seemed to get the maximum possible out of every boxer regardless of their potential level, and when they lost it was to a better fighter.

I would say that's quite harsh. The boxing performance has been a disaster but in mitigation Moorehouse was absolutely robbed and while O'Rourke didn't box well, it could easily have went her way and her opponent realistically should have had another point deduction. Jude Gallagher didn't get much slack from the judges against Paalam. And I genuinely felt, while he didn't perform particularly well, that Dean Clancy should have got the nod. I felt he clearly won the last round but one of the 3 judges who had it level gave it against him and that was the difference. You could also make the argument that Aidan Walsh should have been awarded the 2nd round against his French opponent, which would have completely changed the complexion of the fight, although his low output style does tend to get him in all sorts of bother with referees and judges. Jack Marley is young for a heavyweight and can hold his head high getting to a quarter final and losing to the Asian Games champion on a split devision. Michaela Walsh was poor today but I felt she was past her best already and wasn't expecting a lot. I expected a lot more from Gráinne Walsh alright and she definitely didn't perform her best, but I wouldn't totally write her off yet, she came through the toughest division to qualify out of Ireland. Jenny Lehane did extremely well to qualify after coming late to the sport but may not have what it takes at the very top level. Aidan Walsh is an Olympic medallist, Aoife O'Rourke a 4x European Champion and Grainne Walsh a European Games medallist, so while I absolutely share your disappointment at our boxing performance in Paris, I think to dismiss athletes of that calibre that may be a little bit reactionary on your part.

Yeah it really reminds me a lot of the GAA where the traditional teams often find a way to win, and often get the benefit of decisions at crucial moments, to actually win they need to be a lot better to scrape out a victory. Then the fact the Olympics only comes around once every 4 years, it gets magnified. I wasn't confident on O'Connor, he was selected for his vast experience obviously, but it appears he doesn't have as good a horse as at previous Olympics. Hopefully Coyle can do something in the individual but it will be extremely difficult and we rarely seem to get the rub of the green in these things

That sailing is very frustrating. As I predicted the DSQ from thr Spanish objection on day 2 has ultimately cost them a medal, even if it was still in their own hands today. All they really had to do was follow the Americans and be within 3 places of them. They have a history of being over the start line previously which cost them a lot in the past and they seemed to have cut that out from their racing this regatta, until today. I think after he retires from rowing they'd do well to bring Paul O'Donovan as chef d'equipe for our Olympic teams as his mentality seems second to none. Hopefully the showjumpers can do something today but I'm more hopeful than expectant. Could go any way for McClenaghan and then Moorehouse got absolutely robbed last night. So only other medal I'm actually expecting now is Wiffen in 1500 free. Like I said before, we don't often get the surprise medals, which invariably go to the bigger nations, even McSharry getting a medal I was shocked and delighted with.

Not the scoring I have an issue with as such as it was a very close fight and O'Rourke wasnt on her game at all, its the 5 warnings in final round without a point deduction, especially as the Pole's tactics were to spoil the fight and make it as scrappy as possible. Not too many next ones left in the boxing at this rate. Hopefully Marley can pull off a win in the quarter final, and make up for O'Rourke's loss as she would have been one of our favourites across all sports for a medal.

Must be so hard to decide how to approach a race like that. If I remember well Annalise Murphy, after the heartbreak of coming 4th in London, sailed pretty conservatively in the medal race in Rio to make sure of a medal, when the gold medal was arguably there to be won, but you'd have to say it was the right decision so as not to come home empty-handed. We're in for a nerve-wracking race tomorrow, fingers crossed the lads can bring home a medal of some colour.

They need to get rid of this ludicrous scoring system, it just doesn't work for 3 round fights. The scoring system in London where they took the average of the judges points scores for each round, discarding the outliers at either extreme, seemed by far the fairest and most accurate for me. I'd agree that the showboating seems to sway the judges from the fights I've seen, if I was a judge it would incline me to go against them, especially if they weren't clearly winning

Didn't see first round of Gallagher's fight against Paalam but he gave him plenty of it in 2nd round and thought clearly won third round but 3 judges gave both against him so even losing first round across the board, seemed a bit hard done by to go down 5-0. Seen fighters get points deducted with much less warnings than Paalam in the last too. Great morning for the rowers, would obviously have expected lightweight double to go through, would have given maybe 60-70% to mens pair but didn't expect women's LW2X to go through so hopefully they can have a right cut at the Final.

Don't think we should diminish the achievement of qualifying so many boxers given how brutally tough it is to get there. Funnily enough I think 2 of our boxers who were unlucky not to qualify, Cassidy at light heavy and McDonagh at super-heavy would be in with a much better shout of a medal than some who did qualify.

Even watching it in slow motion its hard to see a definitive touch although I assume the gates have some sort of sensor? Such small margins, must be absolutely gutting to get so close, fantastic performance nonetheless. Very disappointing regards the sailing, Spain obviously weren't too badly affected by being 'impeded' considering they finished 2nd in the race. Obviously didn't see it as there's no TV coverage but Id bet they chanced their arm throwing in a protest against one of their main medal contenders for something fairly minor and it paid off. Brilliant stuff from Mona tonight, first swimming medal since Michelle in 1996, was so close between 2nd and 5th so great that she got on the podium, absolutely delighted for her!
