A few final thoughts from me regarding the future. First The men's game is getting more balanced both Serbia & France gave the USA a tough fight. Africa is also getting better. At one time if you played the African team it was a easy win. No more. I am sure South Sudan would have made the quarterfinals had they not by luck of draw end up in the same group with USA & Serbia... Also note Nigeria did make the women's quarterfinals going 2-1 in group play. One area that is going down is South America. At one time Argentina & Brazil were top contenders. Brazil did qualify as the representative but Argentina or the other South American teams didn't even win the last chance Americas tournament which Bahamas won

What a crazy overtime game between France and Belgium....

I tend to agree with you. I expect Belgium, Germany, & USA to advance. Personally i consider Serbia vs Australia a complete tossup. Perhaps the best game of the day. I have watched all the women's games so far. Australia's claim to fame is beating France. However they lost to Nigeria by 13 and barely beat a weak Canada team by 5. Both France & Nigeria beat Canada by more. Serbia beat up on China and had a 3 point win over Puerto Rico.

Four quarterfinals ! Looking forward to it. Funny here in the USA we are only getting 3 of the 4 Men's quarterfinals but all 4 of women's quarterfinals the next day. For some strange reason they are not broadcasting Greece vs Germany. Well at least i can watch 3 of 4.

Belgium clinched by blowing out Japan. Nigeria became the first African Women's basketball team to qualify for the quarterfinals with a win over Canada. Congrats Nigeria ! Now its down to Australia or China to for the final spot.

USA wins 104-83 over Puerto Rico to clinch #1 seed.

Well Spain beats Serbia 70-62 but it wasn't even that close as Spain led by 19 at end of 3rd quarter. China beat Puerto Rico 80-58. I watched all the games in Group A and find it the most strange group i have seen. So Puerto Rico who lost 2 games by 4 points gets blown out by China who got blown out by Serbia who got blown out by Spain who won both its early games by 1 point ! Anyway China moves to -1. Assuming Belgium will try to roll it up on Japan in the first game tomorrow. If successful Nigeria, Australia and Canada would be forced to win to get in

A pair of games on Saturday. Serbia (2-0) vs Spain (2-0) plus a elimination game Puerto Rico (0-2) vs China (0-2)

Unbelievable day. First Brazil leads by only 4 entering 4th quarter against Japan. Simply not good enough. Brazil then goes on terror to win by 18 points. Japan is out That puts Brazil points at -7 much better then the -26 they started with. Then Australia looks horrible. Trailing by 19 in 3rd quarter to Greece who must win... Looks like bye bye Australia... Then Australia rally to lose by only 6..Greece clinches 3rd place but are -8 one point worst then Brazil ! Brazil clinches berth. Then Spain either finishes 1st knocking out Australia or is eliminated themselves. Canada wins by 3 sending Spain packing. Next Germany and France battle for 2nd seed but if France wins by 4 or less then Canada gets the #2 seed. Tomorrow USA simply has to beat Puerto Rico to clinch #1 seed. Then the battle for the last spot. Serbia is +15. South Sudan is -6. Greece is -8... If South Sudan wins or loses to Serbia by only 2 points its bye bye Greece, If they lose by more then 2 its bye bye South Sudan

Very interesting day tomorrow. First Japan vs Brazil in a elimination game. Japan trails South Sudan by 18 points Brazil trails South Sudan by 19 differential points. A double digit win by either team could put real pressure on South Sudan. Next Australia vs Greece. Must win for Greece or its pack your bags. Next Canada vs Spain. If Greece has won then its a must win for Spain or pack your bags. If Greece has lost Spain then just needs to avoid being blown out by Canada so that Japan or Brazil don't pass them. For Canada either way a win is a shot at Number 2 seed Next France vs Germany. Likely for the number two seed although if France wins it would come down to differential with Canada provided Canada won earlier.

So far Spain, Serbia, France, Germany & USA have punched tickets to the knockout round. Leaving 3 spots open for the other 7 teams

To those that answered my question who will be the other 4 teams to make the quarterfinals i also agree with you Australia, Spain Serbia & South Sudan... Agree on the difficult road for the Brazil- Japan winner given current point differential. However kind of surprised nobody thinks Greece will make it.

The only way to avoid USA till the final is to become the #2 seed. USA is all but a lock to be #1 seed. Canada is 2-0 in Group A. Both France and Germany are 2-0 in Group B and will be playing each other so one of them is sure to finish 3-0. That means Canada must at least beat Spain to finish 3-0. Lose to Spain and its pure luck of draw. Now if you finish 3-0 as either Germany or France will it goes to point differential. There is the problem. Canada is currently +17. Germany is +33 while France is +16. If Germany wins it would mean you would have to beat Spain by at least 16 more points then Germany defeats France. So for example if Germany won by 1 Canada would have to win by 17. If Germany won by 5 Canada would have to win by 21. If Germany won by 10 Canada would have to win by 26. Frankly highly unlikely to become 2nd seed if Germany beats France. However if France were to beat Germany Canada currently has a 1 point advantage. So beating Spain by the same or more then France wins by gets Canada the 2nd seed.

Canada, Germany, France and USA qualified for the knockout round. Anyone want to take a guess on who you think will take the other 4 spots ?

USA downs South Sudan 103-85 but it still might be good enough for South Sudan to make the knockout round if they just play Serbia close. Will be a very interesting two days filling out the final 4 spots to advance to join Canada, Germany, France, & USA

After Serbia's big win i think its pretty clear where the knockout round stands. 3 teams fighting for 2 spots between Australia, Spain & Greece. Other spot either goes to Japan- Brazil winner or South Sudan. Canada, Germany, France already made the cut. USA could today. Plus Serbia with the big win today is all but a lock at this point.

I think things are beginning to become clear for the knockout rounds. Seems likely 3 teams from Group A will make it. Only question is who is going bye bye Australia, Spain, or Greece.. Other spot goes to the Brazil vs Japan winner OR what Serbia, South Sudan, and Puerto Rico do the rest of the way. Japan is -24 & Brazil -25... While currently South Sudan is +11 Puerto Rico -11, Serbia -26. South Sudan needs to keep it fairly close against USA. While Serbia needs a big margin against Puerto Rico. Think its a tough route for Puerto Rico because at -11 they got Serbia then USA. One advantage for Group C is before their final games they will already know what occurred in Brazil vs Japan.

Wow I sure was wrong on Japan vs France. France wins by 4 in OT. However Japan was up by 4 points with 10 seconds left in regulation. France hits a 3 point shot and you foul them allowing them to tie the game. This is the 2nd time i have seen this dumb play. Not sure what game it was but a team was up by 3 with seconds left. The other team throws up a 3 pointer to tie the game and you fouled them in the process
