  1. Wijler is through, not Bernardi. Not that it helps for European perspective
  2. I don't see the inexperienced Dutch girls cope well with the pressure. Germany will probably take the bronze, unless we can surprise France.
  3. I mean, it would be great if we are in, but doesn't seem to be the right ruling to me.
  4. Turkey was really on fire in the final two rounds and the shootoff. Tough luck, but the men will have more solid possibilities to qualify. For the women this semi is a real (and rare) chance, but I think they need to do it against France. Germany and Mexico are just a step too far ahead, I would say.
  5. Nothing in it for the girls, just one point difference over all four sets. With developments now, this is a serious chance for the girls to get in the semi and possibly quota position (if France beats Indonesia, right?). Would be a big surprise to me. Sadly Spain could not edge out the comeback against Turkey, so no inner conflicts for me today.
  6. And then you need to be in the top 16 right there, probably.
  7. No quota is given for mixed recurve. Countries can participate once they have at least one qualified man and woman. Or is this not the case anymore?
  8. The format, where every match processes synchronously, is not really suitable for streaming. My take is that semifinals should be in the weekend final rounds, however. This is true for Recurve M/W, but not for Recurve Mixed or Compound M/W.
  9. Why do they do the Mixed (and compount) competitions until the 1/2? Only displaying the finals always seems a little meh to me.
  10. I agree. Dutch media consistently report they have little chance against Spain however.
  11. Norway seemed weak to me, even though they scored a lot against Phillipines. Can't see them beat Japan.
  12. 12th is okay for the girls. Hope they will be able to just manage to get to Paris. Won't be easy to get far here, really has to happen at the qualification meet probably.
  13. They won against Chinese Taipei and Thailand, after qualifying for the playoff by drawing against Myanmar only, with some luck that India had to retire in the qualification because of covid issues.
  14. It isn't justified to say it's accidental, but I feel like they kinda escaped a few times here and there at the Olympics. After watching the groups, Canada winning was a big surprise to me, I would have expected England (GB), Netherlands or Sweden to win it.
  15. Anyway, the girls looking grim in defense. When it is once, you might think it is on purpose. When it happens thrice.. no way that is on purpose.
  16. Because they randomly pick a 50/50 while first they thought Germany had a 56/44 to go through against France. There are too many variables for a prediction like this. It does totally not account for the likelihood of going through in the previous round.
  17. I don't see women's football sustaining itself to a level where it is justified to make the Olympic tournament an U23 one.
  18. A 12 team tournament in football is disgusting anyway. I'd rather have the women's tournament to 16 as well.
  19. And Colombia with the winner.
  20. Field Hockey is definitely in my field of interest. Probably my favorite team sport past Volleyball and maybe Sevens at the games. But it is the one that is in danger should they wish to cut team sports.
  21. It's definitely the slowest and least interesting team sport on the current roster for me. Although it would be Baseball once they ever include it again. Never really understood what makes that interesting apart from the entourage. But I don't feel like any team sport should be cut from the current program.
  22. I agree on that one. There are clear reasons to cut Boxing, Weightlifting, (GR) Wrestling, Rhythmic, MP as well as Equestrian. For Field Hockey the only reason would be that it is less popular than other team sports, except for a small part of the world. Which would be a pretty poor reason. However, they will not go to cutting Boxing nor Equestrian unless they absolutely need to. The other four are in bigger danger and could be spots where they need to make room for quota. I feel that adding a team sport, which eats quota like no tomorrow, should not be counteracted by removing individual sports quota, however.
  23. I can understand if Boxing or Weightlifting would be cut. Even MP I can understand why they would, but if they do, it's the end for MP as a whole. Cutting them for team sports doesn't seem too great for me. Cricket would really just be for the Indian market. Baseball has been tried over and over and it is... well... not great for the games. I'd rather try Cricket over having Baseball though. Don't see them cutting Rugby Sevens btw, that seems highly unlikely to me. Even here I feel like there are quite some people who follow the Sevens tourney above everything else. If they need to cut a team sport, it would be Field Hockey, but the western European countries dominating that (GB, Germany) sure won't like that. I feel for cutting sports there must be a pretty clear reason.
  24. Norway not going out today. I don't see them winning against Japan or Spain though.
