  1. Right. But Premier League isn't the Alpha & Omega of soccer. How many Americans actually know what Norwich City colors are for instance? Or such a club like Norwich even exists? And this is a really low-hanging fruit.
  2. There's so much money to be earned that someone will always take a bite at the cherry. FIFA and IOC have had bad press for years and maybe Americans don't really realize that since they don't care about soccer and NBC hardly shows anything not involving US athletes that for them it sounds different than it really is. There's not a snowball's chance in hell a country like Norway will boycott the Winter Games and since they are not member of EU they don't have to listen to those buffoons either
  3. OG survived two global wars, political boycotts (like who remembers the African boycott of '76 anymore or which countries actually boycotted the '56 games and why) and multiple terrorist attacks (again, who actually remembers the '96 bombing if only Clint Eastwood didn't make a movie about it lately?). They will be fine. If the choice comes down to host OG in Qatar or don't host OG at all, it will be a simple one indeed
  4. Sander was in 3rd place when Thompson came down to push him off the podium
  5. Well, guess after the latest failure in Afghanistan and millions of dollars lost on "promoting" democracy Americans need a feel good punchbag again. I don't believe even EU gives a damn about Colin Kapernick though - neither does NFL anymore. Sorry, you can't win all the ideological wars after all.
  6. And Polish ES commentator was surprised that Sander will get a podium here (not really a surprise with many DNFs too).
  7. Cancel culture has showed up in European Union. Using the words "Christmas", "Mr.", "Mrs", "John", "Mary" are recommened to be banned in official EU language in a 30-page memo. So EU goes all inclusve, unless you are Christian or your name is John or Mary. What a bunch of morons. And they wonder why people turn against the EU so much? Another proof that liberalism is a complete folly and uses the same methods communism did before. https://www.politico.eu/article/european-commission-cancel-christmas-inclusive-language-lgbtq/
  8. Still no points for Poland. 0/6 events so far. Hojnisz-Starega 67th with one miss is a joke.
  9. Money talks and pro sports is business. The days of Karl Schranz and Ingemar Stenmark being banned because they were "professionals" are long gone. Sport is a monster money maker. Even USA finally legalised sports gambling after decades of ethical opposition. You cannot stop the power of money in this world.
  10. Since IOC awarded Brisbane the SOG without any bidding process that won't be a problem for Winter Games either.
  11. Alec Baldwin claims he didn't fire the shot that killed Halyna Hutchins. I guess he wants to cover his ass because there is a major lawsuit & money to be paid and if they won't find the person who put the live round it will be Baldwin who will have to pay up? As usual with celebs, money loss is bigger threat than a conviction verdict. I mean manslaughter won't even get him to jail but the financial loss would be real. https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-59499237
  12. UEFA and CONMEBOL won't support the biennial World Cup and this makes the whole point moot. Not even worth to talk about it.
  13. And football only grows bigger with more games and more money invested. Nobody will boycott FIFA World Cup, football is basically bigger than Olympic Games (most certainly than the Winter edition where half of the world doesn't even have a shot at any medals).
  14. Most people don't like FIFA either and nobody thinks about boycotting the World Cup
  15. What about the sponsors who bought ads for the TV coverage?
  16. China is triggered enough to run the financial pressure over lack of WTA tournaments even without Taiwan. WTA raised the purse for 1st round GS losers and so on, there is the big push for pay equality too. I wonder how is that possible with the loss of Chinese money? The long-term plans could blow right up now. The only reasonable replacement is Middle East. It would be hilarious if WTA had to stage events in Saudi Arabia to make up for the Chinese losses
  17. I am sure. Tibet, Hong Kong and Taiwan are all lost to the Western world. COVID has allowed China to call people racists whenever someone says "Chinese virus". NBC pays too much money for WOG to be held without Americans for instance. Nobody in USA would tune in to watch Russians and Norwegians win
  18. WTA won't touch Taiwan with a wooden stick after this move. And yeah, the Chinese player market could completely collapse from now on. I suppose WTA thinks it was worth the squeeze for a semi-retired player like Peng Shuai?
  19. No sporting boycotts will happen. I'm amazed how delusional people are. The Tibet situation was much bigger in 2008 and they held the Games there. Money is more important to IOC than people realize. The days when they banned Ingemar Stenmark from taking part in WOG are long over
  20. PR stunt move in the off-season. Due to COVID restrictions there are no tournaments scheduled in China for 2022 anyway. Also worth noticing that Hong Kong is truly lost for the Western world. Get ready for indoor tournaments in Ostrava then! I wonder how long until people start bitching about Eastern Europe profiting from this? Btw, how much this decision will affect the other Chinese players? The ITF Asian swing was wrecked by COVID already so several of these Chinese players had to come to Europe to play. That could be severly affected going forward. ATP won't give a damn since there are 0 relevant Chinese male players overall.
  21. Tiril Eckhoff bib #111 so there is a chance the TV coverage will go all the way
  22. Btw., Spain trashed Scotland 8-0. It seems like Spain is set to become the next best force in women's football, they already played the best game vs USA at the last World Cup and were very unfortunate to lose that one but it could be a different story in the next few years. I won't be surprised if they win the Euros outright.
  23. Yeah, that's why women's football doesn't really move the needle that much. The performance gap is simply too big to call it competitive. Ireland hit 11 past Georgia which seems merciful. Poland lost to Belgium 0-4, we got lucky in some previous games incuding draws vs Norway and Belgium at home but this time we got pantsed.
  24. Apparently BALCO doping scandal villain C.J. Hunter passed away at the age of 52.
