Yeah, sure, but my question was meant out of curiousity, not as part of the whole "should they/should they not" discussion :p (because it does make a difference if they decided to go there themselves, or if the federation sent them)

Do athletes have any to say in Russia, except perhaps in sports such as tennis and football, where they have lived abroad for many years and are millionaires? However, going to the rally with Putin was something he had to do of his own free will, so it's a more serious matter.

Bronze would be a miracle, but I don't think so. Our runners are too inconsistent and injury-prone. It would take two or three Pellegrinos to win a medal, but obviously not gold. For women, nothing is even possible. The chances are better in biathlon these times. Overall, I'm pessimistic: we will probably win a lot of medals, but not many golds. Brignone will probably drop out, Goggia could fall at any moment, knowing her history, short track is a lottery and in speed skating the young Czech is already starting to dominate on long distances. We can't prepare very good for our home Olympics – it was the same in 2006. France could do it in 2024, the UK in 2012, China in 2008, etc. France will do the same in the winter OG in 2030, revitalizing its entire winter sport, just like it did in summer recently. Macron is a weak president, but in terms of sports development he is a great choice - I would like to have someone like him in my office:lol:

What medal results is expected from the Italian team at home Olympics in total? In other words what result across all the sports will be accepted as success?

* Yes, UK - 2012 effect is still in place, 13 year after the Games.

Just as a matter of clarity: "they started a training camp"? Or were they told by the Russian federation to go have a training camp there?

Russian cross-country federation uses group system. So before the start of the new season (in March, for example) the federation adopts the the training groups - each for one top-coach.

Each coach proposes his own training plan and training camps. So it means that Borodavko`s group which traditionally includes most top-sliers went to the Crimea. Other 3 or 4 groups decided to have training camps elsewhere.

The transfers between the groups are also to be approved by the federation.
Later they send this squads to the ministry of sport for the approval.

I would say they could chose training in other group which did not have training camps in the Crimea.

In each case they (sent by federation / decided themselves) they crossed the border illegally in terms of the international law.
And they got illegal advantage over their potential opponents at the competitions in terms of the sport.

By the way - we TAS/CAS decision that clearly states that if some athlete is used in pro-war propaganda due to his actions - it does not matter if he did it intentionally fully understanding this.
(Sadulaev tried to prove that he was stupid enough to not understand that his visit to pro-wat rally was not war support).

Personally, I would like a minimum of 20 medals, of which 7-8 gold, but much depends on the health of pur stars: Goggia and Brignone in alpine skiing. This would be our second-best result in history since 1994. Let's hope there's no repeat of Turin 2006, where the result was poor and the following years even worse. All the facilities from those Games are now closed or unused for sports competition.

Do you remember that around 2012/2013, Lviv wanted to host the Winter Olympics in 2022? It was realistic in that time? Where would be held the alpine skiing events, such as downhill and SG?

I hope Italy will star in figure skating and cross country ski.
I do not follow a lot speed skating and short track - but the chances there shikud be goog enough too.

That was an idea of Yanukovich who juest tried too follow putin with his Sochi Olympics.
So I really do not know what did they expect to do in practice)

Ironically later bug winter complex in Bukovel was built.
So it would be here

I think it was on the wave of success after Euro 2012 with Poland.
