GB Modern Pentathlon

Ok well that was good fun to watch, the new format has won me over after grumbling for 3 years or so

A good positive is GB have at least one male (hulme) and one female (green) who look competitive at world level, 4th and 6th respectively.

If Hulme can build on his swim over the olympiad he will be right up there,

On the women's side all 3 lacked speed on the obstacle element which (im guessing) will be new to them so hopefully that's where the main gains can be made to close the gap on the medals. Green (who is by far the most promising based on her running) was pretty woeful.

Follett was well placed before an awful run, she dropped like a stone on lap 1 before the shoot dunno if she fell or something?

Overall 3 years out, promising

Pentathlon seems to be another sport where GB athletes are taking a fallow year - not sure the squad we sent to Kaunas this year was full strength.

Big unknown is Joe Choong - he was vocal opponent to the introduction of the obstacle race but the last couple of pieces I've seen on him suggested that he was intending to carry on.

hopefully he does comeback, maybe he's taking time to learn the obstacle event, it must be a huge change to them, but its a completly different event isnt it and if your terrible at it can blow your chances completly like we saw with green yesterday

the only player I can see has a potential to compete in LA is  J Hulme with sub 30 seconds obstacle time. I am not very optimisitic Joe Choong can cope with the new OCR it's more for young players now.

If I am the coach of team GB my target is to qualify with the max quota for now and focus more on youngsters (15-17 yrs old) and train them more for OCR.

Charles Brown has shown ability to hit sub 30 for the obstacle but isn't yet showing the level of consistency to be challenging for podiums but would still expect him to be in the mix for qualification

he is a good swimmer too but his weak point is the laser run which is very crucial.

also lack of consistency in fencing but not too bad.

I believe with a bit of hard work, qualifying the full quota is achievable.
