ExpandTo be honest these two are not very consistent. I am not impressed by them to be honest.
Yes, I agree on that. I just want to see national trials in figure skating some day, like the ones other sports have, because for me that's the best way to decide the olympic team. That's why I hate seeing someone like them or Malinin finishing at a spot, which would give qualification, if there were national trials, but it doesn't with the current qualification process.
There are three covid cases in the training camp of the ROC team, in Krasnoyarsk. One is Egor Bazin, who is/was first alternative in ice dance with Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva. Their coach is also positive, Khudaiberdieva is negative, for now. The third case is not named, but it is reported to be someone from Alexei Mishin's coaching team.

Expected decision on the one hand, but nonetheless a ridiculous and embarassing one for many reasons.
If Walsh/Michaud plan to continue skating together, I hope they will seriously consider switching citizenship and go somewhere they are respected and appreciated.
Marco Zandron has been granted spanish citizenship and is therefore eligible to skate in the olympics.
Ice dance- free dance
Free dance was full of drama.
Leaders after rhythm dance, Sinitsina/Katsalapov withdrew from free dance. In their absence, Stepanova/Bukin won the title comfortably, ahead of Davis/Smolkin.
Khudaiberdieva/Bazin were third, despite not skating in the last group. They just overtook Morozov/Bagin by 0.10 points.
Both these teams expressed complaints about their scores afterwards.
Bazin said ''We wanted at least to have a chance to fight for an olympic spot. We trained, but we had this chance taken away from us. I will not say by whom.''
Morozov said ''We skated well today, probably it was our best skate of the season. Points and place, I will not make any comment.''
Zagorski/Guerreiro dropped to 8th. Zagorski gave everything, but struggled a lot physically. She had a fall and just managed to complete the program. She had serious breathing problems afterwards and wasn't present when their score was announced.

In the meantime, today men's short program in Japan's championships was held as well. Yuzuru Hanyu scored 111.38 points for first, followed by Shoma Uno, who scored 101.88. Hanyu said he will try a quad axel in his free skate.
Russian championships started today in St Petersburg. Scores are a bit, or a lot, inflated, as most of the times in nationals. The ranking order is what it matters the most.
Tomorrow, free dance and men's free skate will be contested, as well as women's short program.

Davis/Smolkin have the upper hand for third. They are ahead of Zagorski/Guerreiro, Morozov/Bagin and Khudaiberdieva/Bazin. These three teams are sperated by less than 1.5 points.
For those who don't know Davis is Tutberidze's daughter. When she was younger, she suffered from third degree hearing loss, which means severe hearing impairment. She has said that nowdays her hearing has been cured.
Zagorski had some serious health issues recently and this is the first time, she and Guerreiro compete this season. Crowd in the stadium were unhappy with their score and reacted with boos.

A reminder that, for olympic qualification there are 7 spots left in men, 6 in women, 3 in pairs and 4 in ice dance.
In addition to these, after Nebelhorn Trophy we will have a better picture regarding the countries that will compete in the team event.
In the Autumn Classic in Canada, 16 year old Marilena Kitromilis won gold and became the first ever figure skater from Cyprus to win a medal of any colour at a challenger series level or higher. She scored 180.72 points. She was first after short program with 61.33 and had the second best free skate with 119.39.
Here is the video of her free skate. All her scores are huge personal bests, improving her previous, which were set earlier this season.
Interestingly enough, Kitromilis is only substitute entry for Cyprus at Nebelhorn Trophy, as another skater is assigned there.
I don't think anyone mentioned it in the 2020-21 discussion thread.
On 11 June it was announced, that Aljona Savchenko will return to competition this season, skating for USA. Her partner will be TJ Nyman.
