Is Russia (OAR) out of the paralympics?

Not yet. The meeting is on Wednesday. The BBC said yesterday the IPC believe they cannot legally expel them but who knows what they will decide. I can see the IPC decking to expel them as then if CAS overturn it they can say we tried blame CAS. CAS’s future is at stake if they make too many unpopular decisions on this crisis.

I'm not sure if this has been reported here, but FIG has taken action:

Not sure if this ban is for the time being or if it affects events in the future; however, it seems likely that the rhythmic gymnastics World Challenge Cups in Russia and Belarus will not take place.

I will be  surprised if the Russian and Belarusian teams are allowed into the Uk for the worlds in Liverpool later this year as things stand.

That feels pretty likely as the IOC has ordered all events be moved out of Russia and Belarus.

The swimming federations of Norway, Denmark, Estonia, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden have released a joint statement urging Russia and Belarus to be banned from all international Aquatics events. They have also vowed to boycott the World Junior and World short course championships both due to be held in Kazan later this year

Is there any legal way to ban Russia? I mean, FIFA can't just say "we don't want you to be there", that's not how this works. As far as I know there isn't any rule that a country can be banned because it's part of an ongoing military conflict. The only way to ban Russia is to prove that their federation broke some rules, which is probably not the case. People need to realize that the system is build on the mutual understanding that you can't force countries out of sport events just because you don't like what they did outside of the world of sports, you need something more concrete than that. If we cross this bridge we will soon enter an era of sports where the Olympic boycotts of the 80s will happen again.

Either Russia is banned or they won’t be a World Cup. The press has said no England at the World Cup if Russia is there. France, Germany and Spain will all decide the same. Will CAS want to be responsible for cancelling the World Cup? If they do then Fifa could well simply decide to ignore CAS knowing that most of the world would be behind them. Fifa might well decide moving from Switzerland is worth it if it means the World Cup is not cancelled.

Yea but if they kick Russia out then everyone should.  No OAR in the paralympic games.   No tennis players.  No Russians in the diamond league.  Nothing.   And athletes don't deserve this.

There has been demands for all of those.

They should just let it play out.  Russia is worse then Poland, Sweden or Czech Republic.   Play the games elsewhere and Russia will just lose

Those countries will rightly not  u turn now. Cosmdeirng how unpopular FIFA is I really don’t think it’s worth it from them for the world to think they pro Russia at a time like this. If they not careful FIFA could lose many members permanently.

But FIFA can always sink lower.

That is looking quite possible.

Through I am sure CAS are not crazy enough to risk their own abolition. And if they do order Fifa to make Russia appear at the World Cup they would be a good as doing that. CAS are already deeply unpopular.

It doesn't matter what's right or wrong, there's literally no precedent for a Russian DSQ since the two World Wars. CAS will rule in favor of Russia even if FIFA tries to drop them.

Personally I think the decision from Poland and Sweden to forfeit their matches is foolish. They are throwing their chance away to qualify for the World Cup and for what? Take a hint from us: we played against the Soviet Union in 1956 at the Olympic Games, we didn't forfeit our matches. And the water polo match that we won against them is far more legendary than what a forfeit match would have been.

The majority of the world will withdraw from the World Cup if the Russians there. If CAS allow Russia to compete they as good as cancelling the World Cup.

To be clear, if I had any decision power on this I would:

1. Not allow Russia to host this play-off, for security reasons.

2. Allow participation of Russian team since their coaching staff and players have not done anything wrong.

3. Deny the russian football federation the prize money from WC participation (should they qualify) until their government ceases hostilities.

Nobody would play the Russian team. Except Belarus. Not even the countries who are somewhat supportive of Russia would do it.

Obviously their only concern is to not lose teams like England, Spain, France, Germany.

First ever summer games striped medal for GB also confirmed. Apparently it’s already been to CAS which means CAS are now doing hearings on known cases without people being aware.

Menawhile Okabare has not been to cas yet but she has 30 days to decide if she will. Wouldn’t be surprised if she does most dopers do nowadays.
