FIL have done this is the hope that the conflict ends by the start of the season, can see them being banned again once most of the athletes refuse to compete in WC events.

It’s not only that. Many countries won’t allow Russians into compete anyway.

Oh sorry.

hard to see many of the luge hosting countries letting Russian and Belarusian competitors in it will be a moot point anyway.

It see sporting bodies simply withdrawing from CAS jurisdiction. I feel like CAS has decided to show it’s not biased by choosing a sport with no real activity until November instead of deciding on the many sports ongoing at the moment. But CAS knows it’s funding and backing would be gone if it made decisions many national governments would simply overturn at the border.

According to this, Russian water polo teams WILL compete at this year's World Championships...

I doubt it. Hungary are the signatory of the boycott letter and that would contradict that.

No way Russia can win this, come on. The political decision to ban everything russian is already widely accepted. It would be a huge scandal.

Do CAS think like that. Everyone wanted Russia banned from the Olympics for doping and they refused. And everyone wanted Valieva banned and they refused to uphold that.

FIA didn't ban Russian & Belarussian drivers (the latter are virtually non-existent) from competing but Great Britain banned them from competing in their country so that probably means Nikita Mazepin won't take part in British GP later this season.

As expected. Anyway, I think CAS won't go against public opinion in this case and the arguments raised by IOC (breaking the olympic truce, ukrainians athletes not being able to compete due to russian attacks) are enough to keep the ban. But we'll see.

The bigger issue is the parlaympics. Countries are soon going to withdraw because Russia is not banned.

Statement from ITF, WTA, ATP & four Grand Slam organizers. Nothing more can be done if you consider tennis is the most individual of all individual sports and basically all of the players' initial funding comes from their families or sponsors and not from any national boards.

British Swimming have said they support a ban on Russia and Belarus from all aquatics competition and said it will be withdrawing from any events currently due to be held in Russia or Belarus.

That includes the 2022 Fina Short Course Championships and the 2024 European Championships that are both currently scheduled to be held in Kazan, Russia.

^ this is important context I feel. Russia has gone through basically every "intermediate" level of sanctions already for unrelated reasons this half decade. The IOC has nowhere to go but a full ban because they used every other option already for doping related violations.

I am skeptical that CAS would uphold a ban by the IOC on the grounds of breaking the Olympic Truce.
