I see a lot of logic there. Then Mongolia

1. 10! 10! 10! Across the board! They were Fantastic, Unbelievable
2. The medals were a surprise, I was hoping for Olympic Diploma, but Adriana and Jean Pierre excelled. Heartbroken for Kevin Cordón in Badminton, it was his last Olympic Games, 5 times.
3. Goal Surpassed
4. None, it will be the same until they fix the NOC
5. Luis Grijalva, he trains and lives in the US, has been 4th place at Diamond League in 5,000m so let's hope.
First time 18 countries from America win medals
North America
Central America
South America
Caribbean
So USA losing the gold medal in High Jump (could have shared it with NZL) will be decisive.
will win most gold medals for the first time after Beijing!!!
It is the first time that more than 1 out of the 7 Central American countries win a medal at the same Games
With the smallest delegation since 1980, only 50 athletes winning 3 medals so far.
have no more athletes compiting at the Games.
Too bad for
and
finishing 4th.
silver in Vault men!!
ExpandYes, but that not what I was asking
I was wondering why someone from your country would have such a french speaking name as "Jean Pierre"
I know several french men named Kevin, I wonder! hahaha
ExpandBy the way, why and how ?
To honor the winner of a bronze medal for some people like to name their kids after their idols or heroes.
I don't know where else to write this:
People in are going crazy for the winners (I can't wait to see how the names "Adriana" and "Jean Pierre" climb on the list of most common names for babies in 2024,
)
Already there are songs and poem written about the medalists, the government and private sector had stated congratulations to both medal winners.
Businnes all over the country have stated gifts for the medal winners: 1, 3 and 4 years of food at restaurants, 1 year free gasoline for Adriana, free flights all over the country, spa, nails, hair services for free mostly for Adriana, hehe. Even people on radio saying that they will cook the Christmas tamales for both winners for free, or free "tuk tuk" rides from one moto taxi owner in a small town. People are happy, you could see it on the streets and listening to conversations about it. Happy news are good for Guatemalans right now. I hope all medal winners get that treatment in their countries, or at least at their cities or towns.
No word yet about how much the medal winners will get as a cash reward from Government and NOC. Will see.
at the top of the Latin American countries??? Who would have thought??!!!
At least for 1 day we will enjoy it soooo much!!!
ExpandMy friend, I don't want to be a partypooper, but I'm wondering why does Guatemala, a country with pretty big population, have such a poor Olympic record?
I think it is the same as with many developing poor countries with big population: the access to sport facilities, nutrition, corruption (benefits to some elites) and poor organization managment has make a toll on the success. It was until the late 1990s and early 2000s that things starte to change, first at the Central American and Caribbean Games and then Pan American Games, where Guatemala started winning more medals. things are changing and hopefully the trend will continue.
To be out of the list of countries benefited by Universality quotas, qualifying directly about 70% to 80% of total athletes is the changes that is seeing.
I will add that Football has been the most popular sport in the country for decades, and the budget, facilities and promotion of it dominates over individual sports. So, that situation also influence in what sports kids and teenagers practice.

What are they giving to the athletes when they win medals inside that long wood box?
Merci Paris! Thank you France! LÉ GEN DAIRE
What a great ceremony, for the athletes and embracing the city. Best way to use the river and buildings, unique show.
Really enjoy it, alternating the artistic acts with the parade was the best.
And great to see Nikki Doll, Paloma and Piche the Drag Queens from DragRace France. Wonderful runway!!

Those are the prizes from the government, then you have what business and common people are giving, I guess that is what the original Olympians felt when returning home, hehe. Restaurants given them free food for 4 years, one supermarket gave them about US$13,000 in groceries, some other a land property, free concerts, free training at shooting ranges, beauty parlors, free flights inside Guatemala, even cooked food and free vegetables from people just offering a prize. Amazing!
