Philippines Contingent - 19 I’m looking at 6 possible medals in this year’s Tokyo Olympics 1. Ernest Obiena - M Athletics Pole Vault 2. Eumir Marcial - M Boxing 3. Nesthy Petecio - W Boxing 4. Yuka Saso - W Golf 5. Carlos Yulo - M Gymnastics Floor exercise 6. Hidilyn Diaz - W Weightlifting Two of them are current world champions (Petecio, Yulo). While Marcial a silver medallist and Diaz a bronze medallist in the latest edition of their respective world championship. Saso is the current LPGA US Open Champion and Obiena is ranked 6th in the world. Hopefully, one of them would be able to bring home the elusive gold medal for Also, the last time we won more than 1 medal in the Summer Olympic Games — way back in 1932 where we won 3 bronze medals I hope the Gold Medal drought ends this year! ??????

Yes most likely, we will see the core of this young team in the world cup with a few additions in the line up Politics within the local basketball community has been the problem, some professional teams don’t want to release their players for the NT by making excuses like injuries etc. The professional league PBA scheduling gets in the way also for the availability of players just like in the last Asian Games where we went home empty handed in men’s basketball

To be honest I was quite sursprised too, I was expecting a blow out. Majority of the team still plays in the collegiate ranks. PHI sent this team just to give these kids more international exposure against european type of play and familiarize playing with each other. we weren’t expecting to qualify for the tokyo olympics, they’re focused on the 2023 Basketball World Cup which we will be hosting together with Japan and Indonesia. A long term goal would be to qualify for 2024 or 2028 olympics. Hopefully we will be able to get Jordan Clarkson to play for the country again, same with Jalen Green who is entered in the NBA draft

I am hoping that China won’t choose W-55kg, our most likely lone representative Hidilyn expressed that this might be her last Olympic Games. It is really hard to beat China in Weightlifting their technique is really impressive. On the other hand, a win over China who is the standard in this sport, makes it hugely convincing.
