  1. Their only previous championships, according to Wikipedia, were 2011 Europeans, and surely that was already the Olympic effect in motion.
  2. Meanwhile, they have a good chance to make a comeback in women's basketball.
  3. Ehm... They defeated Switzerland, and lost to only by one goal each...
  4. Cameroon definitely comes to mind in women's football. Going from 12th out of 12 at London 2012, to 11th out of 24 in 2015.
  5. I just can't believe they can even consider removing quotas from figure skating. That's a ridiculously popular sport for Winter standards, which already has limited participation given its depth. Seriously though, I used to lurk around a figure skating forum I stumbled across, and let me tell you, for each major event they get thousands and thousands of posts. It's completely incomparable to Totallympics.
  6. Don't worry, FIH too obviously uses the same principle. That's why we very nearly ended up with the same 12 nations qualifying in both tournaments.
  7. It's not exactly a novelty that sparing an Olympic quota for a group of nations will likely cause these same nations to improve eventually.
  8. And with that any possible development of women's game in Africa stops... And who will qualify instead...? South Korea. At last year's World Cup they were 12th, with one tied game and three losses. Then at the Asian Games they tied their worst ever result. In the play-offs they lost both games. And despite all of that, they will still go through based on rankings. If there ever was a federation who protected established nations beyond belief...
  9. But field hockey has 12 starters per gender? I am not exactly proposing some madness here. I'm just saying that it would have been better for the sport if Malaysia had been given a spot based on AG final. Same goes for Ghana, if South Africa indeed withdraws its women's team. But no... We have to have more European teams instead.
  10. Not really. Universality is one of the main Olympic principles. Without it, it becomes much harder for new nations (and regions) to emerge, as it has been proven again and again.
  11. A lot of new athletes have reached their MQS here, so I don't believe there will be unused spots, even in women's 50 m rifle 3 positions.
  12. Men's 10 m air pistol Bailey Groves - MQS achieved Men's skeet Paul Adams - MQS achieved Women's skeet Laura Coles - MQS achieved
  13. That's what you get for having the "fairest" qualification system.
  14. You know Totallympics is a small place when having 5-10 active users feels like a hundred.
  15. Frankly I am surprised that you are even considering to be a host of both editions. I mean, what would even be a point of that?
  16. So non-European nations preferred both Australia and Hungary over the Netherlands
  17. Controversy alert! FEI made a change to the list of dressage qualifying events on October 31st update. As you can see HERE, they have removed the events which didn't have any 5* judges on the panel. These events no longer count for Olympic rankings, so for example Nicholas Wagner lost some points. That is all fine and dandy. HOWEVER, they didn't do a very good job when removing such ineligible events. Ukraine hosted a whole bunch of events with no 5* judges, and yet these events were not removed (for now): CDI-W Zhashkiv (1-3 March) CDI-W Zhashkiv (8-10 March) CDI-W Kiev (10-12 May) CDI-W Kharkiv (13-15 September) This inconsistency massively influences Olympic rankings. If these were removed, Inna Logutenkova stands to lose almost 500 points! Aaaand... Removing these events would put Michael Bugan into Olympic qualifcation position instead. I am taking this to public if it doesn't get fixed in the upcoming days, come hell or high water.
  18. Me too. However, knowing IOC/UCi, that is not going to happen. Therefore, between the previous omnium and endurance omnium, I'll always pick the endurance omnium.
  19. I just don't get the hate for omnium. Omnium was always a highly artificial event with ever-changing formats. I'm completely fine with it having only endurance events, since there are no standalone endurance events to begin with...

  21. While I awarded 11 points to Austrlalia, I do realize it's overrated. I just have some good memories from back when that song featured heavily on the radio. It was hard to put that aside.
