Alize Cornet wins on her 32nd birthday and advances to R4. Still no GS QF for her and it might be impossible with Simona Halep next up.
Sorana Cirstea beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in three sets and plays Iga Swiatek next.
The freestyle skiing expansion indicates otherwise. But that's not a bad thing, USA seems to be focused on that so you might leave biathlon alone. Historically this is one sport where USA never had much success which is a blessing in disguise.
Quite a big upset in selctions as Decker Dean isn't one of the three nominated athletes. Kevin Bickner won the internal trials so he was safe but Casey Larson and Patrick Gasienica will be the other two in Beijing. Picking Gasienica (obviously of Polish heritage) over Dean looks downright insane. However since USA doesn't matter much in ski jumping I assume there will be no domestic media backlash over this.
Individual is my favorite event since shooting actually matters here. However I won't be surprised if it gets canned in the next 15 years due to TV demands. Thankfully USA isn't that strong in this sport or else that would have happened already IMO.
Since when IOC cares about balance? Alpine skiing might be one of the most popular winter sports but it doesn't matter. IOC is all about urban "new" sports and new fans. Alpine skiing is literally too old school to profit. Freestyle skiing needs to be expanded especially that's it's so much more popular in USA and we all know NBC is king when it comes to what should have priority.
PS. There is no way 80 countries get a quota in alpine skiing. This is not athletics or swimming.
Hildebrand finishead ahead of Weidel despite 3 more penalty minutes. Tell me again how Weidel must be the slowest German skier who ever made the A team in biathlon?
Slettemark 18/20! Maybe she's got a chance for some WC points? Probably not enough ski speed but you never know.
Vittozzi 12 misses Clare Egan 18/20 so could be a SB result.
