CARIVAN'S COLOMBIAN PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY - DAY 4

Catalina Usme (Football)

IMAGEN-16669687-2.jpg

It took six games for the women's national football team to score a goal in the Olympics. She did it last night. Twice. Against the current world and olympic champions and major favorites to gold this year in a great draw.

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. Luis Mosquera (weightlifting): A bittersweet 4th place. Attempting to fight the bronze out of a North Korean that would end up blanking the strategy overshoot and Colombia was blinsided by the first Olympic medalist from Kyrgyzstan. He's young. He'll be back.

3. Mercedes Perez (weightlifting): Another 4th place in weightlifting.

Our flagbearer got a silver in women's 70k. Add it to her London bronze. Now she just needs a Tokyo gold to complete her collection.

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. Yuberjen Martinez (boxing): Good hard-fought fight with Carmona (ESP). He's a semifinalist now and will win a medal. Color pending.

3. Leidy Solís (weightlifting): After missing London due to a pregnancy she repeats the 4th place she earned in Beijing.

Yuberjen Martinez (Boxing)

Another superb fight. He took out the world champion in a convincing fashion (the win was split decision because boxing judges and Cuba ) and now he's secured the silver medal. He wants more and he'll his chance this Sunday)

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. Ingrit Valencia (boxing): Easy win by technical ko in which she showed great technical qualities. One win away from a medal.

3. Ubaldina Valoyes (weightlifting): She gives Colombia its fourth weightlifting fourth place. It was probably her last games and gets her 4th olympic diploma in as many games.

CARIVAN'S COLOMBIAN PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY - DAY 8

Caterine Ibarguen (Athletics)

triplec.jpg?itok=RLsJ2vlF

It took her 5 minutes to arrive, jump 22 centimeters over the Q mark and go back to the village. She ended the qualification run as a comfortable number 1.

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. Martha Bayona (cycling): Great run by the very young Bayona in the women's keirin. She was in a great position during the semi where the Russian runner took her out. No major harm was suffered during the crash and she secured a top 10 place.

3. Evelis Aguilar (Athletics): Huge improvement of her personal best reaching a very good 15th place overall. Aguilar is just 23 years old.

CARIVAN'S COLOMBIAN PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY - DAY 9

Caterine Ibarguen (Athletics)

She promised a gold medal. She delivered. The field never posed a threat. Superb champion.

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. Yuberjen Martinez (boxing): Even though he was clearly defeated, Yuberjen achieved the highest medal in olympic boxing for Colombia and the first in 28 years.

3. Estefania Alvarez & Monica Arango (synchronized swimming): They showed up in Rio with traditional rhythm "el mapalé" and their free rutine achieved a nice 17th place in Colombia's debut in this sport. Here's hoping to this being just the first page of a long story.

CARIVAN'S COLOMBIAN PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY - DAY 10

Fernando Gaviria (Cycling)

IMAGEN-16528787-2.jpg

The reigning two time world champion ended the omnium in a disappointing 4th place. Arguably, the medal was lost on Sunday. On Day 10, he managed a 4th place in the time trial and had a wonderful points race. He won the event with 41 points, jumped from 7th overall to 4th and had his lap attempt at the end prospered we'd be cheering the silver medalist. (Or the bronze one, if UCI had some shame)

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. Ceiber Avila (boxing): Yet another diploma for Colombia. He's in the quaterfinals now and will try to get a medal. Too bad he's facing a Russian (and the judges, most likely).

3. Santiago Morales (diving): Masterful preliminary round. He makes the semifinals after achieving some great dives and a 5th place.

CARIVAN'S COLOMBIAN PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY - DAY 11

Ingrit Valencia (Boxing)

lazarca.jpg

The fifth medal for Colombia comes in boxing. Ingrit completely overwhelmed her Thai rival and has reached the semifinals. She dreams of an olympic gold and winning Master Chef. The first one is just two fights away.

REST OF THE PODIUM:

2. John Murillo (athletics): Overshadowed by Ibarguen on his event, he arrived without much fanfare and achieved a great 5th place and a national record

3. Fabian Puerta (cycling): Another 5th place, this time in the keirin. Another victim of UCI's willingness to bend the rules for some nations. He still made us proud.

The guide said something like that: Algeria is a few minutes from here but we won't go there because there is a war going on there and it's not safe.
    • Netanyahu is bad but unfortunately Hamas helps him maintain power. Every attack they make is a reinforcement of Netanyahu's rhetoric about the country's security, etc. In the fall of 2023, Netanyahu was already losing support and then suddenly a big Hamas attack on a festival near the Gaza Strip. Coincidence? It wouldn`t surprise me at all if Netanyahu knew about the plan for this attack but did nothing so that he would then have the tools to maintain his power. I also remember Ariel Sharon - he was probably even more radical than Netanyahu but he had a brain hemorrhage and fell into a coma.

Apart from he waś there as president of Ukraine and speaking in the Knesset? Nothing. In the power circles in Moscow there were/are many people of Jewish origin and what about that? A large part of the power apparatus of the USSR was based on Jews, especially in the years shortly after WWII.   Instead of constantly writing about Jews, would be better to tell me which country Algeria has better diplomatic relations with: Tunisia or Egypt?
