ExpandI would have found it hard to see Sundling as a real medal candidate in the skiathlon, but Weng...too bad she isn't entirely healthy yet and so simply has no choice but to divide her strength, early-season Weng would have had a real chance indeed.
I wouldn't have seen Weng here either, 15km is too long for her. I basically do not count her among the candidates for a medal here. I also don't think that she will run the 10km with regard to the relay.

Fantastic
FIS gave an update on World Cup Calender for next season. Oberhof will be back on the Tour from 19-21 January. Also Goms in Switzerland will celebrate its debut.
Canmore in Canada will host 2 sprints and 2 distance races from 09-13 February and the World Cup will be going to the United States, Minneapolis on 17/18 February.
Jonna back in normal shape
What a brutal course, gonna not be easy for Klaebo
Frida Karlsson and Tiril Udnes Weng are both out for Les Rousses.
ExpandDifferent kind of team sprint qualifying today, and it does not sound fun at all: every athlete will simply do the lap of yesterday's individual sprint, and the times of the two athletes are added together to form the ranking. No exchanges, no multiple laps, no head-to-head fights, nothing to make it a team sprint other than adding some times.
Apparently all 14 teams in the women's event will be going to the final, which means a final spot for Brazil

I think the qualification mode is not so bad, because it was much too demanding for most sprinters to run the 1.5km 6 times a day, so they only have to do it 4 times. Moreover, no team can complain anymore that the semifinals were unevenly filled.
On the other hand, I don't understand why it has to be 20 teams again. So you have again (at least in the men's) 40 athletes standing around in the changing room.
Jonna is baaaacccckkkkk
1 Sundling
2 Ribom +1.3
3 Fähndrich +4.5
4 Dahlqvist +5.3
5 Svahn +5.7
Big comebacks in the team in Livignio. Ribom, Sundling and Svahn will be back on the World Cup Tour. Frida Karlsson is missing due to sickness and will probably also miss the World Cup in France.

Oberstdorf is out of the Tour de Ski. Next year the stages will be in Davos, Toblach and Val Di Fiemme.
Diggins probably already crash out in the Qualification!
The Tour de Ski finally starts the day after tomorrow. Weather is supposed to be pretty catastrophic. In Oberstdorf it is not at all clear what can be skied. Currently there are double-digit plus straight and also heavy rain is announced. The two stages could also be quite interesting in terms of waxing. In Val Mustair, the Pursuit has already been replaced by a mass start, which means that the weak sprinters will hardly have a chance to catch up.
German team will also start in Beitostolen only strongly decimated. The mixed relay will be contested only by the B team, the women and men around Hennig, Carl and Moch will then already prepare for the Tour de Ski.
So probably smaller starting fields are to be expected.
In women's cross-country skiing, I don't even see the problem as big. There really only Neprayeva falls out. Especially in the distance field, Niskanen and Parmakoski, Brennan and Diggins, as well as some Germans and Stadlober are competitive next to the Swedes and Norwegians.
Only in the men's race it's almost only the Norwegians. But the women's races should be quite exciting, especially now that Johaug is gone maybe even more exciting.
No Skiathlon in Lillehammer (NOR) due to lack of snow. As well competitions will be removed to the Biathlon Stadium:
ExpandThe three competition days in Cross-Country see a change on Sunday, 4th December. The originally scheduled Skiathlon gets replaced with a 20km Mass Start in Classic technique due to the current snow situation and the needed course setting.
All Cross-Country competitions will take place around the Biathlon venue that is located next to the Birkebeineren Ski Stadium.
There will be no World Cup in Milano (ITA) due to economic and environmental reasons.

ExpandWorld Cup finals won't be replaced, so Falun next week will be the end of the (World Cup) season. That definitely increases the chances for Nepryaeva to hold and get her title.
To be realistisc, she should be able to do it, Diggins would have to be well beyond herself tomorrow. I saw the sprint in Falun next week is also classic, there it will probably be nothing with a victory.
If Klaebo doesn't start in Falun, Richard Jouve can still win the Sprint World Cup, it's the only open ranking then. He is currently 95 points behind Klaebo. For the individual sprint there are still 115 points, for the team sprint there should be another 25 points.
Therese Johaug will end her career after the 30K tomorrow:

ExpandJess Diggins looked poor today. Nepryaeva still has over 200 points in the bank with just 3 races left to go. It's going to be tight.
Diggins and classic just doesn't work this season. She will have to try to take as many points as possible in the first bonus sprints on Saturday. The 100 points at the finish will definitely go to Johaug.
The main points have to come next week in Falun. If possible win the prologue in the sprint (will be hard against Sundling) and then at least a podium in the sprint and individual start on Saturday.
Her disadvantage will be that she will have a hard time to get big points in the mixed relays, because the male part is probably not strong enough.
The gap should ideally not be bigger than 150 points before Falun so that she still has a chance.
Les Rousses (FRA) wanted to take over the World Cup Final, but was turned down because the TV window would overlap with the Alpine World Cup Final. Thus it will probably have been that after Falun.

Frankly, she is too heavy for these conditions.
