There is no novelty here, however it's still fun to see Lebanese women grabbing generous 140.80 FIS points for nearly 30 minutes required for 5 km free.

I wonder, are Cedars the Lebanese Alpe Cermis? :p

One day to go, which means: tonight is Team Captain's Meeting night, with the start list being made up and then we finally know who are competing! Considering Bruna's injury status is over, she now has no FIS points in the most recent list, which either means she'll start very early or very late. As per usual rules, that should be very early for the 5k race, in Oberstdorf two years ago the two athletes with no FIS points were the first ones to start. That could mean Bruna might even have bib #1 tomorrow, which would be absolutely awesome :d

First up is tonight's opening ceremony though!

Bib #1 it is.

Should get plenty of air time, including some splits and quite likely the finish.

Tena Hadžić earns the expected 36th place. I am 99.9% sure these must be the first ever XC skiing WC points for us.

One time we came really close, but all things considered, this 34th place was rather an embarrassment. It was a missed opportunity which perhaps still haunts him. :p

They are handing points to Top 50 skiers now? Woah. Guess FIS really has no ideas how to even pretend cross country is competitive anymore. With 12 Norwegians and 8 Swedes crowding out the Top 30 on a daily basis I guess they threw a bone for the minnows who can "celebrate" winning 2 points for 49th place. What a joke

I like this. :d

The main reason why I stopped caring about XC skiing is the oversaturation of the few powerhouses. Not that this will help others reach their level, but at least it will bring some interest to me, as opposed to tuning in just to see which of the countless Norwegians will win today. :p

Greek championships are being held this weekend. No results to speak of, presumably because the races are still being held late into night. :p

Events included:

Sprint 1200 km for M/W

Interval 5000 km W and 10000 km M

The only previous team participation from Torino was in the men's team sprint, when the guys placed 22nd in the final analysis (24 teams were entered).

Interestingly, :BLR Belarus did not start that day too. Are they boycotting WOG team events with Croatia?

Yay, we get the much-desired Top 20 result. :cheer: Best ever in cross-country. Also our first participation in any team event at the Winter Olympics since Torino.

Very pleased for Maeki. Perfect strategy with Niskanen pushing the pace and Joni saving his effort for the key leg.

In all honesty, there is some truism in what our British friend is saying. :p

TV ratings do matter. NBC ratings are reportedly only at half compared to Pyeongchang. Cases like Valieva are now becoming key. If someone who tested positive a month ago is allowed to start as if nothing happened, then the IOC is risking to have the Olympics become progressively more irrelevant (like the Oscars, for the mainstream audience).

All credits to Niskanen, he will be strong in the Team sprint

The trouble will be finding his team mate. Maeki? Hakola seems to suffer from the altitude, that would be my conclusion at least.

Their women should have better chance at gold. That is, if they don't enter Kylloenen and Matintalo! :mirror:

The winning time will be some 15 minutes slower than the first ever classic+free relay (Calgary 1988)! It will be 30 minutes slower than Pyeongchang/Sochi.

So, yeah, someone seriously messed up the course measurement here.

EDIT: Heck. This will likely be slower than the 4x10 classic relay from Sarajevo. :roflmao:
