I know I've beaten this into the ground on this forum but 53.61 in the 100 free is such a joke qualification time.
We are actually going to get something like 12 qualifiers in this event.
At the very least, World Aquatics should have kept the B standard at 3% of the OQT instead of reducing it to 0.05% of the OQT so that athletes with an A standard in another event could've possibly entered.
So far, Paris 2024 has 150 more men than women qualified. Without equestrian entry lists, this may grow or reduce...
One way out would be to invite more female swimmers with OCT. that would be great!
Dressel is back! Alexy 4th . Guiliano becomes the 1st American man since Biondi in 1988 to qualify individually in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle events. He just beats out Matt King by 0.01 seconds. What a meet he's having. With Both Dressel and Guiliano doubling up here, all of the male 2nd place finishers have now officially qualified for the Olympic Team.
Women's 200m Backstroke (OQT: 2:10.39)
1. Regan Smith - 2:05.16 Q
2. Phoebe Bacon - 2:06.27 Q
3. Claire Curzan - 2:06.34
4. Kennedy Noble - 2:07.52
5. Rhyan White - 2:07.64
6. Katie Grimes - 2:07.72
7. Isabelle Stadden - 2:08.77
8. Teagan O'Dell - 2:0.21
Once again, Smith slower than expected. She was noticeably more than a second slower on the last 50m compared to her other splits. Should be a fun showdown in a month between her and McKeown. Curzan finishes 3rd . She was in second at the 150m but was passed by Bacon who beat her out by 0.07 seconds. Gutsy swim by Bacon to take the 2nd spot when many didn't predict her to qualify.
Men's 200m Individual Medley (OQT: 1:57.94)
1. Carson Foster - 1:55.65 Q
2. Shaine Casas - 1:55.83 Q
3. Kieran Smith - 1:56.97
4. Chase Kalisz - 1:57.17
5. Owen McDonald - 1:57.51
6. Arsenio Bustos - 1:58.26
7. Grant House - 1:58.35
8. Will Modglin - 1:58.44
Shaine Casas has developed a reputation of not being able to swim in the highest pressure meets but that didn't happen tonight. He delivered the swim of his life here to qualify for his 1st Olympic Team. Really happy for the guy. He had a great celebration after the race and was visibly emotional. For Foster, this marks a new PB for him. With Foster doubling up, Ryan Held was also officially qualified for the Olympic Team after his 5th place finish in the 100m freestyle. His time in that event is at a higher percentage above the OQT than Curry in the 200m freestyle.
Semi-finals:
Advancing to Men's 100m Butterfly Final:
1. Caeleb Dressel - 50.79
2. Dare Rose - 51.11
3. Zach Harting - 51.16
4. Ryan Murphy - 51.43
5. Aiden Hayes - 51.50
6. Luke Miller - 51.53
7. Thomas Heilman - 51.58
8. Kaii Winkler - 51.64
Dressel and Rose look solid. Heilman a bit slower than expected.
Advancing to Women's 200m Individual Medley Final:
1. Kate Douglass - 2:08.53
2. Alex Walsh - 2:08.74
3. Beata Nelson - 2:10.83
4. Leah Hayes - 2:10.93
5. Zoe Dixon - 2:11.64
6. Lucy Bell - 2:12.23
7. Isabel Ivey - 2:12.26
8. Lilla Bognar - 2:12.33
Torri Huske finished 3rd in 2:09.74 but scratched the final to focus on the 50m freestyle. Would be shocking if it wasn't a Douglass and Walsh 1-2.
Qualifiers after Day 7 (44 athletes: 25 men + 19 women):
Priority 1: 1st place finishers (16 swimmers)
Kate Douglass - W 100m Freestyle, 200m Breaststroke, 4x100m Freestyle Relay, 4x100m Medley Relay

Lilly King - W 100m Breaststroke, 200m Breaststroke, 4x100m Medley Relay
China’s presence will overshadow these games entirely. UK and USA swimmers will protest on every Interview and on the podium. The IOC better be ready for every single view at home knowing China are industrial drug cheats and they have done nothing to ban then.
Chinese Olympic trials begins tomorrow. The rules is to choose the any best result of 3 events to compare:
1: 2023 WCH individual event finals and meeting OG standard A
2: 2024 WCH individual event finals and meeting OG standard A
3: 2024 trials individual event finals and meeting OG standard A
So based on the past 2023 and 2024 WCH, following swimmers already have eligible results and green parts are almost safe enough to guarantee the tickets before the trials. For relay swimmers, mainly considering trials results.
Hey, by any chance have you done an update after the Chinese Nationals, plese?
I'm pretty sure Casper Puggaard is not elegible for the Universality quota as he was not on the Danish rooster for the 23 or 24 WC. Only Liggjas JOENSEN participated (representing Faroe Islands).
From the OQD I would assume they would select the Universality before the OCT, but one never knows.
They could easily say "we're done" but it would be a bit odd I guess. I still believe they will take both relays, or at least ask them to do a tryout. If they decide to take 30, those are my bet for the 7 extra, kind-of-on-order
I think there are 4 safer bets because either they won their races, or they would form relays
Kieran Bird - M 400m Freestyle (OQT), not only he has an OQT and won the event, he could be a relay option, with his 6th on 4x200m Freestyle
Angharad EvansW 100m Breaststroke (OQT), not only she won but she could form the 4x100m medley
Eva Okaro - W 4x100m Freestyle (2nd- relay not qualified)
Freya Anderson - W 4x100m Freestyle (3rd- relay not qualified) she could easily compete at W 100m Freestyle, W 200m Freestyle and she was injured
Then I guess they could take these 3 to be options for relays, and 2 of them are big names
James Wilby - M 100m Breaststroke (he could even participate in the individual with his OQT and would be a back-up for 4x100m medley)
Jacob Whittle - M 4x100m 5th Swimmer?
Jack McMillan - M 400m Freestyle (OQT), and he also would be a great option to swim in the heats for 4x200m Freestyle
Just being a bit of douchebag and saying I got it right here
Would be interesting to have a ranking of nations with the most athletes under the A standard. I was quite surprised to see that Japan has clearly more athletes under the A standard than GB.
I used to have a list, but many athletes are doubled as they have many A standards. Next time I update it will try to bring it here.
Tom Dean - M 4x100m Freestyle Relay, M 200m Individual Medley
Alexander Cohoon - M 4x100m Freestyle Relay
Joe Litchfield - M 4x100m Medley Relay
Priority 5: 2nd place finishers with nomination time (3 swimmers)
Jonny Marshall - M 100m Backstroke
Laura Stephens - W 200m Butterfly
Katie Shanahan - W 400m Individual Medley, W 200m Backstroke
Candidates for Priority 4 - Discretionary Picks
Freya Anderson - W 100m Freestyle, W 200m Freestyle (injured)
Kieran Bird - M 400m Freestyle (OQT)
Amelie Blocksidge - W 1500m Freestyle (OCT)
Lauren Cox - W 100m Backstroke (NT at World Championships)
Kara Hanlon - W 200m Breaststroke (OCT)
James Wilby - M 100m Breaststroke (OQT)
Jacob Whittle - M 4x200m Freestyle
In addition to those athletes Tobias Robinson, who has already qualified in open water, will compete in the men’s 800m/1500m freestyle events despite not having matched the BST as it won’t impact the 30 swimmer cap.
Only James Guy booked a ticket tonight, so we have 19 guaranteed athletes.
Luke Greenbank is also now on priority 5 with his 200m Backstroke. Let's say those 4 will be included and we would have a team of 23 (except Tobias Robinson).

Swimswam released a list with 9 men and 3 women. Besided the 10 listed above (albeit the number 9 on the title lol) it includes Kim Jihoon (M) and Hur Yeonkyng (W for the mixed relay)
Not really sure why they would not take a 4th to the 4x200m freestyle (KIM Younghyeon). Who would be the 4th?
World Aquatics seems to imply the opposite in their website so it almost seems like they can compete in more than 2 Olympics if they are under the age of 30.
In the official document the wording is more clear but not enough
I think it is something similar to the tennis rule that have different rules to younger/older than 30:
In this case... I think the rule only applies if the athlete is younger than 30.
if the athlete is over 30 he/she can go.
But if he/she is younger, can not go to a third Olympic.
I guess the idea behind is: if the athlete is older, it gets an "extra" Olympic to go to.
Not sure if this would be thread or the Swimming 2024, but... I was curious and took the 2 best times from american swimmers between march 2023-24 to check what would be the US swimming "selection".
It would have 20 male athletes, 18 female athletes, plus 3 men and 2 women to fill the top6 in 4x100m and 4x200m. The 12th relay only quota would go (in my mind obviously) to Simone Manuel, 7th from 4x100m.
Do you think the official selection will be very different from this one? Can Dressel comeback in time?
It's written that athletes under the age of 30 can only compete in two Olympics through universality. It's then implied that over 30 year old athletes can compete in more Olympics.
It's a dumb rule in my opinion and hurts a small handful of athletes in their mid to late 20s who may be excluded during what may have been their peak Olympics
But perhaps wouldn't be the case of those countries read the OQD beforehand and send new athletes?
I like the idea of Universality quotas not being given to the same athlete over and over.
Germany and Japan could not get a quota through continental qualification for their continents BUT i believe the reallocated quota from Oceania could go to Germany

Thanks!!! Any chance Joshua Gammon will be selected?
And for the Israelis, they will make the cut, right?
