ExpandThe funny thing is that Turkey is kind of a newcomer, but a medal was not actually something unexpected. In fact, I expected a lot more from them. This bronze medal is still a historic achievement, but given the quality of their gymnasts, they could have walked away with four medals instead of one. A lot of missed opportunities here, for sure.
I'm actually a lot more impressed with Armenia. Turkey spends a lot of money on gymnastics, but Armenia indeed has a small program with little hope of success. The fact that one of their gymnasts got a medal is mindblowing.
I’m not sure if we are spending a lot of money, gymnastics is still pretty new and no sport other than football and basketball in Turkey systematically gets a lot of money. It would be much higher compared to Armenia though, I agree.
I think we suffered from lack of olympic culture in gymnastics in this olympics. Other than Arıcan, all of our gymnast attended an olympics for the first time. So although I think we really missed a lot of opportunities I can see why our gymnast could not perform at their best except Arıcan.
Adem Inceredible first vault, he was so close to the gold medal and he messed up in the easier one, really saddening
Great performance from our gymnasts, we did not even have any finals in our history, now we have 7 in one olympics, it is really great, I hope we can win at least one medal to make it even more amazing
Where do you see the results
ExpandWhat does Petrounias need to do to qualify? I mean, if him qualifying means he has such a huge chance of Olympic gold (presumably because he's the best), surely he has an equally huge chance of winning here and only some rare mistake could keep him out of it?

Or is it some sort of ranking and is winning not enough for him, but he needs certain other athletes to have certain results?
Him winning is not enough, he has to score really high, I believe more than 15.330 which rareely happens even for great athletes such as Petrounidas. But he did it in European Championships so I would say he has 50% chance
ExpandI'm so nervous, I don't think I will sleep much tonight
For Petrounias this will be harder than the Olympic final...it would be really amazing if he qualifies. Greece has had enough disappointments during this qualification period in various sports, really hope tomorrow won't be another one...
Yes it is literally an olympic gold or not for Petrounidas and Greece. Although it will reduce İbrahim Çolak’a chances at olympics I still suppprt Petrounidas. An athlete this good should be at the olympics.
Will Petrounidas receive a quota in rings?
I have no words, Ibrahim Colak was my school-mate in the middle school, he was such a nice and humble guy, 5 years ago we could not imageine a world medal in gymnastics. He came 5th back in 2017 but last year he could not get into the final. I was not expecting this result, incredible. I am very happy for our medal but as a person who knows him I am very happy because I know that he really deserves this.
I hope he can win a medal next year in the olympics. He already has written history for Turkey, why not expand the history.
ExpandJesus Christ, what the hell happened? Çolak and Rhys will not make the finals? I'm in utter shock!
Did Çolak fall down, what happened, how come he is not gonna make the finals

By the way, I hope it will be even better in Paris, we will come with a team this time and hopefully get more medals, but I don’t measure success with medals for now for us, first we need to build the culture in this sport to be consistently successful, so joining with a team and making finals should be the priority.
