Pursuits went today.
Women:
Lunder - 27th
Moser - 35th
Paradis - 43rd
Men:
Runnals - 43rd
Not so hot a day for the men in the Sprint.
Runnals - 47th (+2:27)
Borglum - 62nd (+2:59)
Pletz - 89th (+4:26)
First two didn’t shoot bad, only one miss each, and conditions looked good. Just didn’t have the ski speed
As far as Olympic qualifying goes, Kazakhstan didn’t do so hot either, so we only lost 4 points, leaving us down 14 for the all important 20th spot in Nations Cup
The ladies did well in the Sprint.
25th - Lunder (+1:26)
31st - Moser (+1:50)
38th - Paradis (+2:13)
All three not only made the Pursuit, but will be set up well for more solid results there
Conditions were kinda snowy and windy, so a bit challenging. But at least the course was in good shape.
ExpandYes removed. The reasoning being the men and women are competing at different venues, leading to logistical issues. We will see if it's back for 2030
It’s all kinda strange, as they also condensed the schedule as Mountaineering is also using the mens venue… but that also leaves the womens venue wide open
Also, amending the combined to be separate skiers kinda defeats the point of that event
I don’t know. I just don’t think the FIS wants to do the team event.
Edited by JockCartierMixed Relay opened up the World Championships and Canada had a rough outing, got lapped in the 3rd leg to finish 20th.
Conditions were very slushy and really spread out the field. Canadians probably didn’t have great skis
Did finish ahead of Kazakhstan though, so made up a couple points in the mens Nations Cup race for 20th and are now just 10pts down
ExpandKim Boutin wins her QF heat, the race was called back late due to a fall which impacted another Canadian. They redo the race and Boutin doesn't advance
What ah orrible decision ngl
Can’t remember ever seeing a race reran and someone getting advanced who didn’t take part in rerun.
The injury was definitely in a dangerous place, but by time they whistled it dead everyone was already past that spot and on the finishing straight
Definitely a strange ruling
ExpandIt's a bronze in the team relay! First World Championship medal this year
That was quite an entertaining race. Relays are always fun and chaotic, and the Whistler track only added to it as Canada kinda Bradbury’d their way to the podium 😂
Loutitt finishes 10th today, didn’t look very happy about either of her jumps. Strate with solid 12th, and Maurer with a very good 21st, almost cracking the top 20
Prevc won again, she’s a machine
ExpandI wanted another bomb or supernova
I think it was a German who uncorked a hill record 130+, that would qualify. But she was a bit back and had a rough landing
Solid but unspectacular second jump will give Loutitt the bronze!
Strate moves up to 14 from 18. Maurer did not get to jump, presumably for a suit violation
Good jump by Strate, will move up a bit. Loutitte will be jumping soon
ExpandOn the one hand, it’s kinda bs because duals is just moguls in a slightly different format.
On the other hand IDGAF because I love moguls and I want more than one mogul event at the Olympics!
Yeah, would be nice if second event was more of a departure. Like a team event, or a more challenging course
ExpandIf loutits was a bomb what was nika prevc?
A supernova
Loutitt drops a bomb in the first round in Lake Placid!
Strate looks like she’ll he middle of the pack. Mauer got dq’d, presumably for a suit violation, they actually stopped her from jumping just as she was about to go. Weird
Such is figure skating.
Word was she'd be skating for another country after last years Grand Prix and the Mimar split
Speaking of the Grand Prix, rough showings for the Canadians at the final
Gilles/Poirier fell in the RD and was sitting in 6th (last), had the 2nd best FD and moved up one spot... Lajoie/Lagha finished in 4th.
Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps withdrew due to injury... word is they've expected to do some major retooling of programs heading into the winter
Rahneva announced her retirement too
Calgary shutting down is really showing with how empty the sliding cupboard is
The full relays were today
The men had a disappointing outing, getting lapped on the 3rd leg and finishing dead last. Especially troubling as they front loaded their lineup
The women are are just wrapping up, and look like it will be 14th for them, which is a decent showing. Good legs from Moser and Paradis in particular
World Cup kicked off with a couple mixed relays
Single mixed wasn't pretty. Lunder and Pletz paired up and finished 20th. Both really struggled shooting the first time around, and were battling for dead last... but did improve the second half and picked up 4 spots
Surprisingly good showing for the full mixed relay considering I think this was the first ever WC race for three of them, managed not to get lapped and finished 16th. During Moser's leg they got up to about 12th briefly.
Runnals interestingly did not compete.
Ski times continue to be an issue pretty much across the board, but such is our fate it seems
So, all Bottchers talk about being passionate and excited about coaching, and being committed for years to come, lasted almost five months of an offseason
ExpandMen’s side is absolutely cooked. I’m hoping Bujnowski/De Bruin can come back next season and strengthen our women’s side. De Bruin hasn’t retired even with her suspension, she still has plans for Milano-Cortina 2026, not sure about Bujnowski.
Would be interesting to figure out what went wrong. Calgary closing is certainly hurting us (and will get only worse going forward), but it didn't seem like the men were doing very good developing drivers even before. Chris Spring kept being marched out there long past his best before date
On the ISU feed they mentioned the last time she won a 3,000 it was in that same arena in 2019.
Nice to see Fish seems to be finding his form again on the mens side after a few years of struggles.
But geesh, that Stolz is gonna be a monster in 2026.
