No surprise they hadn't collected enough samples. Anti-doping is very poorly funded in tennis.
ExpandOK, I've now read the full ITIA decision on Halep and it really can't be much worse for her.
There's a strong suggestion, although it can't be conclusively proved, that she was doping since 2014.
I haven't read the whole report but I saw it mentioned elsewhere that they didn't pursue her in 2014 and 2017 because of a lack of data (AKA not enough samples collected). I wonder how many other athletes have been flagged in this manner but continue to compete because the anti-doping system is underfunded.
I completely missed this when it was posted a month ago but WADA is now using the ABP to screen for HGH, IGF-1 and steroid usage.
Expand
The Endocrine Module of the ABP collects information on markers of human growth hormone (hGH) doping. The module aims to identify hGH use as well as use of hGH analogs, fragments and releasing factors categorized under Section S2.2 of the Prohibited List. This module may also indicate use of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), categorized under Section S2.3 of the Prohibited List.
The Steroidal Module of the ABP collects information on markers of steroid doping, which until now, have been measured in urine samples. This module has been updated to also include markers measured in blood (serum) samples.

No way he came up with this statement himself.
Another American thrower banned eh. That's two this year both with quite short 16 month suspensions.
I was expecting an update on readmission of Russia to swimming during Worlds but the bureau meeting has already passed and it wasn't even discussed.
Another one bites the dust (Tobi Amusan)
It was actually a successful appeal by ITF. The tribunal let Ymer off but ITF appealed to CAS and they imposed a ban.

I think so. There is no Olympic tennis qualifying per se, the WTA ranking is the official measuring stick and French women have completely lost depth in the last few seasons. Other than Garcia & Cornet there is nobody who can play at Gracheva level atm. Parry & Paquet have stalled, Ferro was out injured and Mladenovic is a joke in singles these days.
Isn't she required to have competed in BJK Cup or have an exemption from ITF?
A bit a of a step up from the other Keyan's AIU has been busting lately
ExpandNo cause of death has been mentioned. Suicide has not been brought up, so not sure why you would jump to that conclusion
So why would the IG post by kingpaulaskew say this: "Depression is real y’all please check on your people. You never know what they are battling in their minds".
I think that Nikolaev will have trouble changing his sports nationality to Australia with World Aquatics' updated nationality rules because he hasn't even been living Australia for a year yet let alone three years. Kirpichnikova on the other hand has been living in France for quite a while hasn't she?
I wonder if World Aquatics changed the rules because they were anticipating a flood of Russians switching nationality.
Another American receives a ridiculously short ban especially considering it's their second ban.
US Olympian McPherson banned for 16 months after second doping violation of career
ExpandNo, she would not be able to qualify from the US Nationals.
The ban ends in February 2024 and trials aren't until June. If she were banned for the full 24 months it wouldn't end until August.

"USADA announced today that Raven Saunders, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., an athlete in the sport of track and field, has accepted an 18-month suspension for committing three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.
Saunders’s 18-month period of ineligibility began on August 15, 2022, the date of her third Whereabouts Failure. In addition, Saunders has been disqualified from all competitive results achieved on and subsequent to August 15, 2022, including forfeiture of any medals, points, and prizes."
So USADA reduced her ban so she can return just in time for Paris. 🙄
Peter Bol's B sample came back negative.

Seems it was for Ligandrol. He must have had very clear evidence of contamination for his ban to be reduced to only one year but I don't see anything like that mentioned in the news reports (for comparison Shayna Jack got two years). Also a bit strange that it's taken a year for this to be made public.
ExpandSeems like there’s a great deal of divergence on this.
That was also the Australian Olympic Committee's position when they made a statement about a week ago but that doesn't mean the federal government will agree with the AOC.

Out of these I'd like to see Turkey or India. It'll be too soon after Brisbane for Indonesia, South Korea or China.
