    Qualification Pathway

    Quota places are allocated to the NOC(s).

     

    Six (6) Olympic Qualification Tournaments (OQT) to be held in 2023.

     

    Women:

    • One (1) on 16-24 September 2023;
    • One (1) on 16-24 September 2023;
    • One (1) on 16-24 September 2023;

     

    Men:

    • One (1) on 30 September-8 October 2023;
    • One (1) on 30 September-8 October 2023;
    • One (1) on 30 September-8 October 2023;

     

    Participants: Three (3) host National Federations selected among the top twenty-four (24) eligible highest ranked National Federations per gender at the time of the bidding release, as per the FIVB World Ranking as of 20 September 2021.

     

    Twenty-one (21) highest ranked eligible National Federations per gender as per the FIVB World Ranking as of 12 September 2022 for men and as of 17 October 2022 for women, not yet qualified.

     

    Team Seeding & draw: twenty-four (24) teams shall be placed into three (3) pools of eight (8) teams each per gender.

    For each gender, the three (3) hosts of the OQT must be among the top twenty-four (24) eligible highest ranked National Federations per gender at the time of the bidding release as defined above and will be pre-assigned to the top position of each pool and seeded #1-3 based on their position in the World Ranking at the time of qualification.

     

    For each gender, the remaining twenty-one (21) teams will be split in seven (7) pots of three (3) teams each based on their position in the World Ranking at the time of the qualification and will be drawn for their seed line by line applying serpentine system. The serpentine system is a method employed in the organisation of a competition to define the teams' seeds and arrange them in pools as follows:

    2. Draw for Seed #4 to Seed #6 and placed starting from Pool C to Pool A
    3. Draw for Seed #7 to Seed #9 and placed starting from Pool A to Pool C
    4. Draw for Seed #10 to Seed #12 and placed starting from Pool C to Pool A
    5. Draw for Seed #13 to Seed #15 and placed starting from Pool A to Pool C
    6. Draw for Seed #16 to Seed #18 and placed starting from Pool C to Pool A
    7. Draw for Seed #19 to Seed #21 and placed starting from Pool A to Pool C
    8. Draw for Seed #22 to Seed #24 and placed starting from Pool C to Pool A

    Competition format: The eight (8) teams in each pool play in a full round robin format, and the two (2) top teams of each pool qualify to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

     

    Five (5) top teams per gender will qualify for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 as per the World Ranking as at the end of the Preliminary phase of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2024 (17 June 2024 for women and 24 June 2024 for men) in priority:

    • a. Team(s) from a continent(s) without qualified team(s)
    • b. Top team(s) not yet qualified
