  2. Sixteen-year-old Kiwi swimming sensation books spot at Tokyo Olympics Photo by BW Media Teenage swimming sensation Erika Fairweather's notched up another remarkable achievement today, qualifying for next year's Olympics. Competing in the Auckland championships late this afternoon, Fairweather comfortably booked her place at the Tokyo games. The 16-year-old posted a time of 4 minutes, 7.43 seconds in the 400-metre freestyle - a time which is nearly five tenths of a second under the qualifying time. "I cant even put it into words, I'm just so gobsmacked I guess," Fairweather said. "Im not going to lie, it hurt a lot but I was really determined and I wanted to get the time so I'm just glad I was able to pull it off."
  3. Maybe they go through Montmartre, they could find short hilly streets there
  4. I wonder how the cycling road route in Paris 2024 will look like? Finish on Champs Elysee is obvious, but what else? Race for sprinters only or any possible small climbs on the way? What do you think?
  5. I know Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel is not close to Petra Vlhova, but I hope for a decent result today. Bib no. 37.
  6. #221 - Moscow 1980 - Athletics - M 3000 m Steeplechase Final - Bronisław Malinowski chasing down Filbert Bayi. I couldn't find a video of the whole race in better quality unfortunately. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUQzYG76aA0&t=19s This one will probably not work if you are not in Poland. The race from 38:20. https://sport.tvp.pl/40802999/retro-tvp-sport-io-1980-w-moskwie-zlote-medale-wladyslawa-kozakiewicza-i-bronislawa-malinowskiego
  7. #222 - London 2012 - Athletics - 800 m Final - David Rudisha WR running solo https://youtu.be/YKEOjWEzVGs
  8. #223 - Rio 2016 - Cycling Road - M Road Race - Last 50 kms were pure madness!!! https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/video/detail/cycling-road-men-s-road-race-rio-2016-replay/
  9. https://www.worldathletics.org/stats-zone/road-to/7132391 Nice idea with this website but unfortunately it's not updated correctly. Maybe they will improve it.
  10. #224 - London 2012 - Swimming - M 4x100 m Free Relay - French revenge for Beijing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XI_XeoIFnI&t=6s
  11. But road cycling is pretty much team effort. And how many riders from one NOC will be allowed to start? I believe not 5 or not even 4, like in Tokyo. That is not enough. I would like to watch a great race with majority of best riders. There are so many good e.g. Belgian or even French riders that 3-men teams are too small. 130 riders in Tokyo will be ok. In Rio there were 144. Cutting down to 90 is very disappointing.
  12. For me the worst change here by far is only 90 riders in men's cycling road race. What a shame! This is only half of an average peleton. If no other reasons are convincing for IOC, there is one more - Champs Elysee is too wide for a such a small bunch of people. It will look awful!
  13. #225 - Rio 2016 - Rowing - M Single Sculls Final - this race was too close to call. Maybe they should have given two gold medals?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67Jqvum3L2k&t=5s
  14. You are so terribly wrong here, I know Canada is far away from Eastern and Middle Europe but you must know that a lot of people care about Belarus here right now, and although I criticise IOC in different matters a lot, this decision involving Lukashenka and co. was really good. Highlighting this problem at the beginning of the conference also means a lot to me.
  15. Only 90 riders in men's cycling road race - what a stupid decision in an event which should be blue ribbon event in this olympics with Champs Elysee finish. Totally nonsense.
  16. What would be your best and worst options for your teams in today's UEFA zone qualification draw for world cup 2022 ? Best: 1. Denmark 2. Poland 3. Northern Ireland 4. Luxembourg 5. Andorra 6. San Marino Worst: 1. France 2. Poland 3. Russia 4. Bulgaria 5. Kosovo
  17. #226 - Beijing 2008 - Gymnastics Artistic - W Floor Final - Sandra Izbasa was simply perfect there! This is legendary for me. https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/video/detail/women-s-floor-exercise-final-beijing-2008-replays/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyANyji0yYo&t=22s
  18. It could be an interesting idea. But how it would look like? There are so many events - I don't know if I have that much time.
  19. Here they say handball in Paris. We will see. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeux_olympiques_d'été_de_2024#Infrastructures_sportives
  20. Sailing could not be in Paris - that is understandable. But why they try to move out of city handball or volleyball - one of the old, most interesting sports, normally core of the games, should be played in the golden circle. And they want us to watch skateboarding or breakdance on Champs-Élysées instead. Ehhh...
  21. https://sport.francetvinfo.fr/handball/le-tournoi-olympique-de-handball-2024-lille-les-joueurs-tres-partages but handball in Lille? That would be another stupid decision.
  22. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_Summer_Olympics#Outlying_venues According to english wikipedia, they want to push the whole volleyball indoor tournaments out of Paris and play it in Lille ! WTF? Why on earth they would want to do that? That would be a stupid decision! But the french wiki says it will be in Paris https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeux_olympiques_d'été_de_2024#Infrastructures_sportives So what's the truth? Lille is ain't that far like Tahiti, but anyway... https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1098059/paris-2024-considering-volleyball-change
  23. If I did maths well - there is still 229 days to the Tokyo 2020/2021 opening ceremony. And 227 days until the first softball JPN-AUS game in Fukushima. So - the final countdown could be watching again the best olympic moments so far, it could be a quite random order - whatever comes to mind on particular day. I would start with: #227 - Beijing 2008 - Swimming - W 200m Freestyle Final - FEDE! FEDE! FEDE! https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/video/detail/slovenian-medalists-sara-isakovic-swimming-beijing-2008/
  24. They will not lose so many long time die-hard fans like us, because - even if we agree that they make so many bad decisions and there are so many hilarious mistakes in IOC work - there is one truth: THERE IS STILL NOTHING BETTER IN INTERNATIONAL SPORTS THAN OLYMPICS ITSELF. I can't find anything which could be considered as a better thing to watch.
