  1. The USA has a hybrid selection model -- Jordan Stolz, Erin Jackson, maybe a couple of others -- prequalified through World Championships and World Cup results even though they will still skate at trials. It was different four years ago when Jackson tripped in the 500 at trials, finished one spot out of the team and Brittany Bowe gave up her spot for Jackson (though Bowe's best events were the 1000 and 1500 and it was believed anyway the US would get an extra 500 quota on reallocation, which they later did, so Bowe was able to skate the 500 in Beijing anyway).
  2. On Jutta Leerdam, what happens if Naomi Verkerk (third place finisher in 1000m) ends up within the top 9 of the matrix, something like this: Kok Groenewoud Beune Schulting Conijn Rijpma-de Jong Leerdam Boersma Verkerk In that case, would the only way Leerdam can race the Olympic 1000m be if the selectors make a discretionary call to do so? I do see the word "calamiteit" in the selection procedures -- https://knsb.nl/media/documents/KNSB_selectiedocument_2025-2026_OS_Milaan_def_29sept25.pdf -- but I, just an English speaker, can't make out through google translate whether the "calamiteit" mentioned in the PDF would cover this situation. What have they been saying about this on NOS?
  3. Kovacs can't get a Diamond League wild card because Ryan Crouser already has the U.S. wild card for winning World Championships in 2023. Now if Crouser's elbow injury keeps him out of worlds, and Kovacs wins the DL Final, I don't what happens then.
  4. When was the full sport programme announced for Paris 2024?
  5. This year Gaudreau broke the USA men's career goals and points records in world championship play. When so many top guys skip worlds after the NHL season, have to give him credit for showing up year after year. Likely would have made his Olympic debut in 2026.
  6. World Athletics Olympic entries are live: https://worldathletics.org/competitions/olympic-games/paris24/athletes
  7. OK. I saw some marks from 30 June were added, but I did not check thoroughly.
  8. The Road to Paris appears updated to me of this morning: https://worldathletics.org/stats-zone/road-to/7153115
  9. Where are they getting that he was going to compete in the Paris Olympics?
  10. I believe the IOC will allow tennis doubles teams of Russia and Belarus players at the Olympics, plus Russian and Belarus players are allowed to enter doubles teams into ATP and WTA tennis competitions, which are technically Olympic qualifiers. I don't see how this is any different. The Russia/Belarus ban is on team sports and not necessarily all team events within sports that include both individual and team competitions.
  11. Can Pita still make it kayak?
  12. If there are no Russians in gymnastics, track and field, swimming and team sports, and it certainly looks that way, then more media may flock to tennis for the inevitable Russia/Ukraine storyline. I could see Daniil Medvedev, Aryna Sabalenka, etc., not wanting to deal with that -- on top of the drawbacks of no rankings points and playing a clay tournament during hard-court season -- and skip the Olympics altogether.
  13. China's selection policies as their written rule it out (last trials meet is before his ban ends and they're saying they won't put anyone on the team who has served a doping ban, though I suppose the latter could be legally challenged). But it is China, so you never know.
  14. I understand why she would have relocated to Romania, but why did Zelenykh switch her representation from Ukraine to Romania?
  15. Canada names 19 snowboarders to Olympic team. Has 7 quota spots in PGS, but only named one man and woman. And no Jasey-Jay Anderson. https://olympic.ca/2022/01/19/19-snowboarders-nominated-to-team-canada-for-beijing-2022/
