Kazakh, Polish, Azeri, Canadian and a "neutral" judge I think. But it wasn't about where they were from, it was about where they were. Even the French girl knew she lost that. The fact that the next Olympics are in the US is probably the only thing that might keep boxing on the programme. But we really need to be focusing our resources elsewhere. Get the velodrome built for starters.
There was always an issue about politically influenced judging in the days of the Iron Curtain, e.g. Fred Tiedt. They haven't gone away, you know.

What about handball? A few fit tall fellas able to throw a ball around? Surely we have loads of candidates?
Gaelic football, Soccer, hurling, hockey, wall handball - throwing a ball is not something that comes naturally to the Irish.
Unless you could engineer a few crossovers by cricket bowlers or maybe rugby players.

What nationality were her 5 judges?

The only two real blips so far were:
1. Men's R7, having Fiji on the rack to lose thanks to one misjudgement, uncharacteristic of the player. Otherwise they were good for silver IMHO. (France would have beaten them in the final.)2. Liam Jegou's piece of ill luck, but his event is something of a lottery. However, a medal for either was not predicted, and Mona McSharry has more than compensated. All the big guns are still standing. So far so good.- OlympicIRL and mattiekav119

Brilliant by Daniel.
P.S. Wife asked me what's in the cardboard box. Fireworks?

WOO HOO! Who predicted that?

I think somebody here said that every county is represented on Team Ireland. I cannot find even a slim link to Derry, Kildare, Westmeath, or Monaghan, unless you credit the Ugandan rower to Monaghan. I believe her parents are Fermanagh and Monaghan. And Leitrim claiming Dean Clancy is stretching it.

I see some familiar names here from old Olympic threads in Boards.ie. I appreciate this may be somewhat off topic but can I ask: does anybody know what became of Dan Man? He was a stalwart of the Olympics, a walking encyclopedia and a gentleman.

From what I can see almost every one of our boxers' first-round opponents has an impressive CV. I've put myself in the shoes of an actuary (which I'm not) and set about calculating our boxing medal prospects, counting number of boxers and number of rounds needed to medal, and to win silver or gold. This assumes that all things otherwise are even. Result: one bronze medal and one other medal of either silver or gold. If this were to hold true we could have a repeat of Tokyo. Of course, this is purely an academic exercise.

Are athletes who are prone to sea-sickness exempt from the sail past?

In rugby 7s, how can South Africa lose two games and still garner two points?

Sorry. I forgot field events. Thanks,

Raftery is included in Wiki but not Favors, and still they say 9. Very confusing.

Is there an error in Wikipedia Olympics Ireland 2024? Under Athletics it says 9 men but I count 8 listed.

I thought golf was finalised: McIlroy, Lowry, Maguire and Meadow.

Northern Ireland has athletes at Paris variously numbered at 37 to 41, of whom about six are representing the UK, with the rest representing Ireland. What is heartening is that those competing for Ireland come in more or less equal measure from both major communities. Perhaps this augurs well for the future.
So in reality our athletes are representing seven million plus people, which puts your assessment table just a little on the generous side to us. But we won't lose any sleep over that.
