Revisionism sounds good in theory but a black person winning an Oscar in 1940 in ANY category sounds more impressive than Poitier winning it in 1964 at the height of Martin Luther King popularity? That decision could be seen as political while there was zero political gain to award one for a black person in 1940 (USA wasn't even directly involved in WWII yet).

    Hettie McDaniel won an Oscar in acting category 24 years before Poitier? Obviously he's not the first black person to win the Oscar for acting I find it strange in the gender equality reality of USA these days someone makes such an obvious error?

    Australia is a mess. Their hard lockdowns measures look more desperate & unsuccessful the longer the pandemic lasts (and it will last for some years yet IMO).     I've been watching alpine skiing since Saalbach WC in 1991 and I don't give a damn about the team event. I've given up on the mostly unfair parallel races in general.

    The women's qualifying is basically done since Sapporo & Zao won't be replaced. Therefore this nation list should be more or less official. The places are not for specific names but it's easy to guess Daniela Haralambie & Frida Westman will be the and nominations. Nicole Konderla & Kinga Rajda should be the two selections.

    The women ski jumping World Cup rounds in Sapporo & Zao will not be replaced so the next round will be held in Willingen in the last weekend of January. This also means the Olympic qualifying for women is basically done.

    The ski jumping FIS Cup in Zakopane scheduled for the upcoming weekend has been cancelled due to warm weather. There is more rain than snow in Poland right now. I'm pretty sure the ski jumping World Cup will use artificial snow.

    I suppose Australian politicians realized this Novak exemption could cost them at the next elections so are trying to save face now. There's two weeks until the tournament starts, I think he will play anyway.

    I have to say I won't be watching much ice hockey with no NHL players. The same way I don't usually watch men's football at the Olympics with U-23 squads.

    The Mass Start at Alpe Cermis is pure trash. I liked the pursuit version better. Just another reason to completely ignore cross country these days.
