First ever judo medal for Croatia
Happy for Deguchi
The french judo team very annoying

378 athletes but originally it was 372 quotas
any News on the universality quotas?
If there is a realication my understanding is it would go to the highestvranked Athlete not yet qualified independent of gender and of course respecting 1 athlete per NOC in one category?
if that’s right it would be Croatia (Puljiz)
Expandactually 14 countries benefited from tripartite but no information either

have benefited from it
Isn’t it 15 quotas?
ExpandAlso, I see this
judoka qualified for the Olympics based on this source https://www.facebook.com/share/p/yJVkoL2FY2L2ASAe/?mibextid=oFDknk, even though he is not listed in the current world ranking or final Olympic ranking at all, is it valid?
He could have qualified by just appearing at one tournament , but why bother 😂
Edited by prso1000ExpandThey're not currently listed according to IJF, but I imagine things might slightly change between now and when the ranking close.
The issue is they have two athletes, one female and one male, with same points. IJF will have to decide who gets the quota. That decision will impact the last reallocation as well : Puljiz (CRO) oder Veg (HUN)
ExpandWith the rankings coming to a close next week I wanted to take a look at the tripartite situations. Here's a list of the highest point total from eligible NOCs which are not qualified through the rankings or continental quotas.

Note, the tripartite committee takes multiple things into account and won't necessarily just take the top 15. Of course, having more points will make it more likely to be granted the quotas, but I've also seen athletes with no points being given a quota.
Kiribati will qualify via continental quota
Expand
Announced their team, even though qualifiers are not yet done,
Nikolić u48
Perišić u57
Žabić +78
Bunčić u66
Majdov u90
Kukolj u100
All who you would expect through ranking, but the thing is that Bunčić is in the Continental Quota and there are still Opens to go. He is one of the lower ones and could fall out depending on a vast variety of circumstances. These circumstances hopefully won't happen, but thought I might just mention it.
I think Buncic is safe
Does someone know how the reallocation process for direct quotas work. Let’s say someone in Top 17 declines a quota for whatever reason, who will get it?
assuming rank 18 in that category has a continental quota already and rank 19 no quota.
if they give to rank 18 that could change all the cont. quotas or?

18th quota momentarily with
Loriana Kuka 1873pt
but can be obtained by
Moira de Villiers 1832pt (she is injured and missed the worlds and still has a 10 + 6 + 6 in her points. She is supposed to go to Tahiti Open and a bronze medal will do - will take her to 1876)
Vanessa Chala 1656pt, but has 2 blank spaces on her ranking and one 70, so she can go to 1886 - if she wins 3 Opens around the world in 5 weeks lol
Both cases are curious:
Moira de Villiers has a continental quota so far, but has to hope Sydnee Andrews keeps her direct quota tomorrow (2300pt) in a fierce competition.
If Moira eventually wins a quota and Sydnee remains with her direct quota, the continental quota will go to Maarten de Ridder (81kg, 309pt) and may shake some things in the Oceania quota (see above) and reallocation quota (see below)
Ecuador is a curious case because they have 4 strong athletes fighting for one continental quota and who have not travelled enough. Besides Chala we have
70kg Celinda Corozo with 1264pt with 160 + 36 + 20 + 0 + 0 (!)
66kg Lenin Preciado with 1123 but with 50 + 36 + 20 + 0 + 0 (!)
+100kg Freddy Figueroa with 1041 but with 100 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 (he is not in Abu Dhabi).
Have no idea why they have not travelled more, even in regional Opens... they could have easily 2 or 3 quotas.
And this is how we stand with the reallocation rankings
Female
1-
Natasha Ferreira (48kg) 2694pt
2-
Katharna Menz (48kg) 2642pt - She still can add 80pt if she wins an Open, passing Ferreira.
*3-Maya Goshen out with 2552 (if Butbul gets the continental quota instead of Goshen)
3-
Ana Viktorija PULJIZ (52kg) 2490pt - could still get a continental quota depending on 100kg)
4-
Shukurjon Aminova (57kg) 2474pt
4-
Taís Pina (70kg) 2341 still competing or Telma Monteiro (58kg, 2306, but could still add 80pt at an Open)
male (less sure, but)
Igor Wandtke 2702pt, 73kg) - so far, with a Team Invitation quota - I think reallocation happens first if a male quota is available
VEG Zsombor (100kg, 2607pt, still competing)
Magdiel Estrada 2265pt (could still get a CQ quota, depending on 63kg)- he has defected, but will keep him for now.
Marcus Nyman (90kg, 2208 - he still has a 10 and 20 to replace on the rankings)
Enej MArinic (+100kg, 2153pt, still competing)
I believe we have for now
remain eligible for the Team - I though Hungary had lost it, but they can still have a team with 52kg, 63kg and 70kg with women and 81, 90 and remains with the TI for 73)
Not sure if the points for Goshen (ISR) are right. I think she only gained 20 points here, and loses 10 which means she is at 2472, of course she could gain another 80, but that still has to be done.
goshen at least so far is not registered for any open tournaments.
Tais should be at 2469 after 2nd round at WCH, but she can’t improve anymore.
Expand2024 IJF Judo World Championships will take place from May 19-24 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates!
And will count towards Olympic qualification I guess?
ExpandCan I check that my understanding of the qualification criteria is correct:
Period 1 runs until the 22nd June 2023 with the qualification ranking comprising 50% of points derived from the top 5 results from the period and the score from the 2022 Masters event in Jerusalem. The points total from period 1 will carry forward to period 2.
Period 2 commences with the Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam on the 23rd June and the qualification ranking will comprise 100% of points derived from the top 5 results from the period and the score from the 2023 Masters event in Hungary which is scheduled to take place in August '23.
Is that everyone else's understanding?
In general yes, but this year World champs and many continentals happen at unusual time. Therefore I think the current WCH count towards period 2 and eg European later this year to period 1.
and the 6 th result can be Masters and something else (I think continental championship, but not sure about it)

ExpandThe greatest Judoka ever, the symbol of freedom, sportsmanship and blah blah is going to represent Azerbaijan from now on
https://www.ijf.org/judoka/68901
he said at the end of "his 3 years contract with Mongolia" he now signed another 3 years contract with Azerbaijan.
this is still amazing how come he sold his Hollywood style fake story to the world.
how many athletes represented 3 completely unrelated countries ( I mean not Soviet or Yugoslavian breakups kind of things) at the Olympics ? he is a rare type.
Independent of his story (which I cannot judge) this is a joke. No one should be allowed to represent 3 countries in any sports unless follow up states.
this whole switching of nationality is becoming ridiculous, especially in wrestling, weightlifting and judo. It should be possible to switch but it should be connected with some clear rules, like living for at least few years in that country and doing a break of at least two years from int. Championship. I am afraid soon we will have 10-15 Russians in each wrestling category competing at the WCH

Agree, must be a very disappointing tournament for France. Especially women underperformed. Maybe too much pressure.
japan disappointing as well.
