Expandfavorites for quota K2 500 M W ?
Belarus is likely going to win the gold easily, after them I would say that Slovenia and Poland are looking the strongest based on the SFs. It's going to be a really close race for the last few quota places.

A WK2 500m final without Hungary and Germany... now that's something I would have never guessed.
ExpandI have a dream, just not stop to kick the ass of the person responsible of removing the K4-1000 from the Olympic program
Why did that change happen? Was it because they wanted the compensate the sprinters with a shorter K4 after IOC took K2 200m out of the program?

ICF has been pretty bad at keeping us updated in the past. If they are anything like 2012 or 2016 we probably won't know until just before the Olympics.
Hm... well, let's hope that the NOCs won't win more than 6-6 athlete quotas in kayak.
Well, we know that there will be 170 athlete quotas available at this WCh. And we will know by the end of September how the reallocation of the unused quotas went if some NOCs win too many quotas in kayak.

yeah, thanks for reminding me that, really kind of you
lol, you at least won a medal. We didn't even reach the K4 final for the first time ever in the history of the Olympics, which was one of our lowest points in Rio for the whole Hungarian Olympic team.

Sure, still the goal for all european crews is now to finish among the top 7 in K4 to qualify, not an easy task at all, hopefully we will be able to do it, otherwise it will be a true catastrophe, don´t want to even imagine it...
You would be still able to qualify 4 athletes in the European qualifiers and the World Cup. I mean, Germany failed to qualify in K4 in 2015, but managed to get 5 athlete quotas anyway and won the K4 gold in Rio.
Plus there's also a chance that one (or two?) more K4 boats will qualify with the reallocation.
ExpandTriple gold medallist from last year's WCH,
Laurence Vincent-Lapointe, has failed a doping test and has been provisionally suspended.

Damn, she was by far our strongest rival in women's canoe. This means that we are now the favorites in Women's C2.
ExpandThanks.
I see that Hungary will send 8 male kayakers. In case that they earn quotas in every discipline, what will be disribution of quotas? 2 will stay in home. How will federation decide who will go and who wont? This 12 rule is really anoying.
Yeah, there are two possible distributions in that case: K4 + K2 or K4 + K1 1000 + K1 200. Don't ask me what we would choose, because it doesn't really matter for us, I think? Either way, those 6 athletes will compete in all events, with 2 boats in K1 and K2 and 1 boat in K4.
Edited by Vektorbtw, the submission deadline for crew changes is at 1pm tomorrow, so we will probably get the start lists after that.
ExpandI need a clarification.
What is maximum of participants just in kayak? 12? 6+6?
Yep, 12 (6+6) in kayak, 6 (3+3) in canoe.
And I still can't find the entry list anywhere on the Hungarian sites. I guess we will get the start lists tomorrow.

Right. But I do´t see them do it, they will focus on the K4 and avoid losing energy in other events.
I was writing about Gelle, poor guy was literally sacrified few days before the worlds after preparing himself with Botek last couple of years for Tokyo K2-1000 (I stll think they would have a chance for medal in that event) now he had to re-focus in the singles on few days to try the impossible and win a quota in a event where only 5 guys will earn Olympic pass and having advantage because competing in K1 for some years.
Yeah, it's strange how you have sacrificed a K2 quota like that. Meanwhile we decided to not have Kozák in our women's K4 boat, because it's much more important for us to get all 18 athlete quotas in Szeged than to win gold medals. The fact that we can have two boats in the C1, K1 and K2 events makes it very important for us to send the largest team possible.

*So, since everything is focused mainly on the K4, the poor Peter Gelle basically lost his olympic dream, since he was lately informed that the K2 Gelle/Botek (traditional medal contenders and training and preparing on daily basis pair for a couple of years now) was suddenly and immediately dismised in order to put Adam Botek into the K4 (I mean, yes now the K4 looks seriously super strong on paper) but Gelle will have to fight for Tokyo in K1 (which let say the trust, is quite impossible to win the quota in this event, because there many quota contenders that are experienced and trained in K1)
+ our chance to earn quota in K2-1000 is now definitely out of any contention thanks entering the newly created pair Gacsal/Jakubík selected to represent us. They will not even qualify for the semifinals in Szeged lol
It looks now we will qualify for Tokyo only the K4, the federation showed once again that all other classes are non-essential, vain and unnecessary for them...
Let´s hope Ivana will somehow gain qnother quota in the W K1 to not be represented in Tokyo only in one event
But you can be represented in the other Men's K events if you get a quota in K4? The 4 athletes you qualify with the K4 quota can also compete in K2 and K1 events (with max. two boats per event).

More like this happens when the tech team massively fucks everything up by entering a boat that doesn't reach the minimum weight limit.
This was a 100% guaranteed quota and medal for Hungary.
