  1. Does anyone know how Russia came to dominate this sport? From its debut in 1984, it was basically the USA and Canada, with Japan usually in third. The last time all three countries made the podium at the Olympics was 1996, when it was just the team event. Then all of a sudden, Russia just came out of nowhere and have refused to let go - and it's like FINA doesn't want to let go of them either. The USA, Canada, and Japan don't even matter anymore in the sport. What the hell happened?
  2. Hi. This is my first post on Totallympics. I was initially looking forward to Mixed Doubles curling in 2018 because of the possibility of lesser Winter Olympic countries like Hungary having a shot at an Olympic medal. But I find it ironic that Hungary, despite winning the past two world titles, failed to do well at the first phase of qualification while the three most powerful countries in the world (Russia, China, and USA) ended up on the podium. There are only eight spots for the event in 2018. I hope that Hungary can qualify, though.
