Hi @Prashanth, @Prakash, @Roamingrover86, @Fly_like_a_don, @nitinsanker, @tirtha22, @sounak , @Indian Sports fan I have compiled points table based on Top 8 performance in each event where 1st place gets 10 points, 2nd gets 7 pts, 3rd gets 5, 4th gets 2.5, 5th gets 2,6th gets 1.5, 7th gets 1 and 8th gets 0.5 pts.
There is also number of participants per country in each event listed which is named 'Quota'. Qualified but non-participation is not included in Quota. 'Top 8' is the number of events a country finished in Top 8. Thus Conversion = Top 8 / Quota which implies Contingent quality.
I have also introduced a term called 'Normalized Points' which is Points / (Number of events in that sport). For example, if a country wins just 1 Gold in Archery, they will get 10 points but 10 points/ 5 events = 2 Normalized Points. This metric will be high for countries who earn points in multiple sports.
I have divided Aquatics events as 'Swimming', 'Water Polo' and 'Diving' otherwise 'Sport' can be defined as set of events governed by same federation
Salient Observations for India
1) India is 26th ranked in quotas earned and but 30th in Points and 28th in Normalized Points which means its a par performance by the contingent
2) We are 5th best nation in Shooting
3) In Asia, India is 4th in terms of quotas behind ( , , ) and 6th in terms of points ( , , , , )

Big achievement from Neeraj , getting medals at consecutive Olympics shows how consistent he has been . Unfortunately this silver doesn’t bring happiness to me. As if we have lost!

I hope we just carry forward this momentum in hockey. 2 medals back to back is a dream considering that I always wondered if I would get to see an Indian hockey olympic medal in my lifetime. I hope in LA we have a good mix of youth and experience to move forward from here.

Antim Panghal deported from France after she smuggled her sister into the Games' village.

Honestly with this level of discipline I do not see our athletes achieving anything. It is as if they are on a vacation. During my college days I was even scared to smuggle my friends into my hostel room overnight and here they are smuggling people into a high security zone like the Games village.

No please! That is scary Did she really say that? Will she be targeting another Olympics? I hope we have better young archers to take her place in LA.
London, Rio, Tokyo & Paris 4 Olympic & still she feels nervous , it won’t change .

Bang on...well said
May be little harsh on Lakshya considering he is the player who has played most singles matches in this olympics (total 7 matches) that too with tough opponents. Again i would say luck has not favoured him as he was unable to travel to canada due to visa problems resulting i his ranking outside 16 and tough draw.
But medal was there for taking to Lakshya...somehow suddenly he completely lost the plot in bronze medal match and also match with Axelsen...initially i thought Axelsen was too good and mentally strong but lakhsya had the meltdown in bronze medal match indicating that its more of Lakshya fault rather than his opponents doing the right things.
But no excuses at all for other players more particularly Satwik and chirag... they were fresh and they won 1st set and was leading in 2nd/3rd sets in QF and gave away the match to Malaysians (who won bronze) by doing silly mistakes in service returns.
They will realise (both Sat-Chi and Lakshya) how one earth they lost the opportunity to win olympic medal in such a tough sport like Badmintion.
Only good thing is age is on their side to correct the things and hopefully they go in the right way.

Lets hope the medical team is at work and Nisha recovers well.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formed a 13-member panel of sports science experts who will travel to Paris to offer health and wellness support to the travelling Indian athletes. Headed by Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the group consists of two physicians, three injury management professionals, three sports physiotherapists, two sports masseuse, two mental conditioning experts, two nutritionists, and a sleep therapist.
The team will be stationed at the recovery centre in the Games Village, a first-of-its-kind 600 square feet facility that will be equipped with all the necessary recovery equipment.
“This is the first time that such a high-profile team of sports science experts will be accompanying the team at the Olympics. The recovery centre is another first. All top-performing nations such as the US, UK, and Japan have such a facility for their athletes,” a senior IOA official informed.
Nine of the 13 experts, including Dr Pardiwala, will have the accreditation to stay in the Athletes Village while the rest will stay outside. Those staying outside will operate on a day pass that will allow them access to the Village between 10am-5pm.
The recovery room will have two inflatable ice baths, each enough to accommodate six people, Normatec legs and arms (recovery suits), two cooling units, three recliners, six massage guns, compression wraps, among others.
