  1. And comfortably beat in the last of the first group of matches. So far the advantage seems to lie with the team batting first.
  2. It won't be easy for either or to qualify now. Even if Sri Lanka win their two remaining first round group games a win for the Netherlands over Namibia would likely mean it comes down to run rates. The West Indies have lost what on paper was their easiest game and both Zimbabwe and Ireland are capable of putting them out now. It would be really something if two former winners went out at this stage.
  3. Outstanding from Ethan Hayter with two golds (team pursuit, omnium) and a silver (madison) from the three men's Olympic endurance events.
  4. All three listed for the next stage so it doesn't appear to be an issue. So six countries competing for four spots which makes life a little easier for them all. https://www.issf-sports.org/competitions/results/detail.ashx?cshipid=3074&resultkey=3b3b303b4152573b303b463b533b313b303b31
  5. You're only permitted one quota in each discipline at each qualifying event, I believe.
  6. Good start for Cameron Meyer in his new role as a coach too.
  7. I guess that's an argument in favour of mixed events in some sports, although it's not realistic in cycling.
  8. KrupeckaitÄ— was a terrific cyclist. Saw a lot of her over her very long career.
  9. Good to see more competition but it's a tough event to medal in.
  10. Don't think I've ever seen so many 'false' starts in the team sprint. One of the female officials seemed to have difficulty holding the bikes steady on a number of occasions, while a male official was still holding onto the saddle of a Chinese cyclist long after the rest of his team had started. Just as well this is a test event for 2024. Lots of lessons to be learned already after day one.
  11. What makes it even more impressive is that they were women. 😊
  12. Similar outcome to the Europeans but with the US coming into the equation.
  13. Is this what you're looking for? https://www.ittf.com/ittf-world-team-ranking/
  14. Sorry. Didn't mean to bring back bad memories. 🙊
  15. In Tokyo they had a shoot off for the bronze in the mixed team event so I would imagine the same will apply in Paris.
  16. We think alike. Every European quota won here reduces the competition at the next continental championships.
  17. At least it was safe from the Italian trap shooters! 😊
  18. First two quotas in the Men's Trap go to and . Really pleased that Nathan Hales got the quota after missing out by one place at the European Championships. It means the fourth quota will come down to the best third place finisher if Aaron Heading gets through in the second semi-final.
  19. They were foolish to prevent the Dutch candidate from standing on spurious grounds and even more foolish not to hold a vote after CAS found against them. It seems clear Kremlev would have won easily and simply gives the IOC ammunition if they are intent on removing boxing from the Olympics.
  20. Which is precisely why perspective rather than hysteria is needed.
  21. And in the Paralympic events 2 / 0 / 2 1 / 1 / 2 1 / 0 / 1 1 / 0 / 0 0 / 1 / 0 0 / 1 / 0 0 / 1 / 0 0 / 1 / 0
  22. We need a bit of perspective here. At the "disastrous Tokyo regatta" GB had nine top four finishes in the fourteen Olympic classes compared with eight top three finishes this year. The truth is there is often only a small gap between what is regarded as success and failure. GB's performance was disappointing last year but not the disaster it has been painted in some quarters and congratulations to them for turning things around so quickly. Congratulations too to the Netherlands on a series of great performances across a range of boats. Also pleased to see a resurgence in Romanian rowing with the promise of more to come after they topped the medal table at this month's European U23 championships. Great performances too from Ireland who are improving and growing and Ukraine given the circumstances in which they have had to prepare and perform. Disappointing from Australia - no golds, when did that last happen - New Zealand, the US and Canada. How much of this is down to lost competition after Covid? And finally Germany with an outstanding men's sculler and then pretty much nothing. No German men's eight in the A final 🙄. What has happened to German rowing? Overall an interesting regatta with some great racing. The next two years are going to be fascinating.
