  1. Sailing hasn't been part of the Paralympics itself since 2016.
  2. I was actually referring to the cycling programme as a whole outside the track. Equalling the five medals they got last time seems feasible given the form of the time trialers.
  3. One advantage GB will have compared with 2021 is greater representation in both the BMX disciplines. The other factor for the riders from all countries is that in a lot of events in cycling outside of the track Olympic fields are weaker than those at WC as there are greater limits on numbers per NOC.
  4. With Anna Shackley's bronze in the U23 race GB just crept up to 100 medals for the Championships as a whole. France won 79 which bodes well for the hosts in Paris.
  5. Seems Argentina's cyclists are like buses with no medals until the last day of the championships and then two come along at the same time.
  6. Which I seem to recall was how Tom Pidcock got to Tokyo after reallocation of the quotas from the U23s.
  7. The only way they can do it now is through the Nations Ranking list which runs until 26/5/24. A country has to be ranked at 19 or above to qualify for at least one quota. I don't think that either the Netherlands or Slovakia are in that position at the moment and I'm not sure that Slovakia could get enough points to qualify Sagan at this stage. It's much more realistic for the Netherlands but it will require Van der Poel to compete in a lot of races and win a lot of points to make up the current gap between his country and the 19th placed nation.
  8. That's correct Ben but it means the quota gained in the U23 race is reallocated to .
  9. Can anyone tell me how many paddlers will get to compete in the extreme kayak events in Paris?
  10. Okay, as my confusion grows I've now read this article which implies that the quotas from the 2022 and 2023 WCs will go firstly to unrepresented continents which I think we all agree to be the correct interpretation. However, it also implies that the remaining quotas will only go to NOCs which haven't already qualified (post -OQS). Is my interpretation correct and is the author right? If so, it means that a single athlete cannot gain more than one quota which seems fair. Apart from the hosts it would also mean that a NOC could only gain two quotas via next year's qualification series. https://olympics.com/en/news/how-to-qualify-for-bmx-freestyle-paris-2024-olympic-qualification-system The relevant paragraph. "Once all continents have obtained a quota, the remaining spot(s) will be allocated based on results of the 2022 UCI Urban Cycling World Championships or 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships (in this order) and will be attributed to the highest-ranked NOC(s) who have not yet qualified for the Games, regardless of their continent."
  11. They also inserted Germany in the men's qualification section but that has been corrected by another editor. I have questioned the person responsible for the entry in the the women's section and am still awaiting a reply.
  12. Okay, after all that discussion caused by a messy qualification process I'd say the only one of the three men's quotas from this WC that is really at risk is the US's and they already have one quota and will likely get the second in the qualifying series. That presupposes that S Africa takes up a quota which is far from certain.
  13. I don't think that's correct. 2022 results get priority over 2023 so if there are continental allocations from 2022 or 2023 they will come first at the expense of the 2023 WC quota winners. See the last paragraph. https://olympics.com/en/news/how-to-qualify-for-bmx-freestyle-paris-2024-olympic-qualification-system P.S. Yes it is a confusing mess.
  14. Lol. It does bring the system into disrepute when you're left scrambling around trying to find a continental representative in a field of just twelve. Both the sport and the IOC need to invest in the sport in Africa to avoid this in future.
  15. With only six qualifiers from the qualifying process it will be tough although not impossible for South America to qualify anyone so they are likely to pick up the Australian quota. There are no guarantees on the British quota either but they have the best chance of retaining it.
  16. Any NOC quotas that have to be allocated to ensure representation from every continent will come from placings at the 2022 WC rather than this year's. https://olympics.com/en/news/how-to-qualify-for-bmx-freestyle-paris-2024-olympic-qualification-system
  17. Yep, they are effectively the 10-12th ranked quotas of the twelve for Paris. However, the USA will almost certainly lose its quota to an African NOC. The chances that all the other five continents will be represented among the six qualifiers from next year's qualifying series are slim so the others are also at risk. For the moment though they have the quotas. https://olympics.com/en/news/how-to-qualify-for-bmx-freestyle-paris-2024-olympic-qualification-system
  18. Even without Daley they've got stacks of depth on the 10m platform with Ben Cutmore, Matthew Dixon and Robbie Lee in addition to Mattie Lee and Noah Williams so they should get their quotas whether this year or next. GB has secured a full set of diving quotas at the last four Games so I'm sure they'd be very disappointed if they didn't do so again.
  19. Yep, he's basically a cliff and high diver and didn't look particularly impressive on the 10m platform at the EG but I guess the French are grateful for his experience as they build their programme for Paris.
  20. We may meet in international competition in that case. I shall get some pasta eating practice in at lunch later on. Do you recommend a good wine with the pasta as part of your training programme? 😎🍷
  21. I warned you! 😊 Can't complain too much as the Mexicans and Ukrainians both dived well and produced 95+ dives towards the end. Well done to them for performing so well under pressure.
  22. I hope you've calmed down after your little rant. I never even mentioned GB but clearly you've got a massive chip on your shoulder. Nor did I say the competition wouldn't he weaker without the Russians competing. All I was arguing with good justification is that the Russians are not as strong as you imply and that all you've offered up to support your argument is a group of aging divers at least some of whom may not even be competing anymore. The current war would not necessarily have anything to do with that since the wear and tear of diving, particularly in the platform events, means that most don't compete beyond thirty. At best they would likely be on a downward curve and unlikely medallists at this level.
