Vojthas 947 Posted February 20, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2019 Something like that should be recorded by every IF. But maybe we'll do it - do you know better experts in qualification systems than Totallympians?
NearPup 2,095 Posted April 8, 2019 #5 Share Posted April 8, 2019 (edited) After 1/11 events, the following athletes are provisionally in a qualifying position from the World Surf League. Note: athletes from Hawaii are marked with (HAW) and athletes from French Polynesia with (PYF) as they compete separately in Surfing. Men Itali Ferreira Kolohe Andino Jordy Smith (HAW) John John Florence Gabriel Medina Wade Carmichael Owen Wright (PYF) Michel Bourez Kanoa Igarashi Jérémy Florès The countries who will qualify from the WSL are already almost predetermined. Only Leonardo Fioravanti can change the status quo, but he appears to be one of the weaker athlete on tour. The WSL is very, very heavy on Australians, Americans and Brazilians and the selection battles between those athletes will be the real story. Women Caroline Marks (HAW) Carissa Moore Sally Fitzgibbons Stephanie Gilmore Tatiana Weston-Webb Johanne Defay Brisa Hennessy Paige Hareb As far as country quotas go, the only question is whether can get a second quota and, if so, which of , or will qualify. Silvana Lima, the second Brazilian, is injured but should be able to qualify if she regains her form. The only other qualification battle worth watching is the bloodbath that will be the American qualification process: they have 7 athletes in the top 12. JoshMartini007 2,131 Posted April 8, 2019 #6 Share Posted April 8, 2019 Yeah, sadly qualification through the World Surf League is more of an intra-nation competition than an inter-nation competition
NearPup 2,095 Posted April 27, 2019 #7 Share Posted April 27, 2019 (edited) After 2/11 events, the following athletes are provisionally in a qualifying position from the World Surf League. Note: athletes from Hawaii are marked with (HAW) as they compete separately in Surfing. I am only including athletes that are qualified to compete on the tour in the selection battle (theoretically an athlete that isn't on tour could qualify for enough events to be selected, but this is unlikely). Men (HAW) John John Florence Italo Ferreira Jordy Smith Filipe Toledo Kolohe Andino Ryan Callinan Owen Wright Kanoa Igarashi Michel Bourez Jérémy Florès The first athlete not qualified is Ricardo Christie, followed by Leonardo Fioravanti. American selection battle: (HAW) John John Florence - 16,085 points Kolohe Andino - 9,130 points Conner Coffin - 8,065 points (HAW) Seth Moniz - 8,065 points Kelly Slater - 5,010 points (HAW) Ezekiel Lau - 2,660 points Griffin Colapinto - 1,595 points (HAW) Sebastian Zietz - 1,330 points Brazilian selection battle: Italo Ferreira - 14,745 points Filipe Toledo - 11,120 points Gabriel Medina - 9,490 points Wilian Cardoso - 6,640 points Yago Dora - 4,650 points Peterson Crisanto - 4,650 points Deivid Silva - 4,650 points Michael Rodrigues - 2,660 points Jesse Mendes - 1,595 points Jadson Andre - 1,595 points Adriano de Souza - 530 points Australian selection battle: Ryan Callinan - 7,415 points Owen Wright - 6,640 points Wade Carmichael - 5,010 points Mikey Wright - 4,650 points Reef Heazlewood - 4,650 points Julian Wilson - 2,660 points Adrian Buchan - 2,660 points Soli Bailey - 2,660 points Jack Freestone - 2,660 points French selection battle: Michel Bourez - 4,650 points Jérémy Florès - 4,650 points Joan Duru - 1,595 points Women Caroline Marks (HAW) Malia Manuel Stephanie Gilmore Sally Fitzgibbons Tatiana Weston-Webb Johanne Defay Brisa Hennessy Paige Hareb The only unqualified athlete is Silvana Lima, who has yet to compete this year due to an injury. She will likely go ahead of Hareb if she recovers this season. American selection battle (where the real action is on the women's side, the US has 7 of the top 12): Caroline Marks - 16,085 points (HAW) Malia Manuel - 13,885 points Courtney Conlogue - 12,610 points (HAW) Carissa Moore - 12,545 points Lakey Peterson - 8,695 Sage Erickson - 7,355 (HAW) Coco Ho - 7,355 Australian selection battle: Stephanie Gilmore - 9,490 points Sally Fitzgibbons - 8,695 points Nikki Van Dijk - 5,220 points Bronte Macaulay - 5,220 points Macy Callaghan - 5,220 points Tyler Wright - 2,090 points Edited April 27, 2019 by NearPup

Brazilian selection battle: Italo Ferreira - 16,075 points Filipe Toledo - 15,865 points Gabriel Medina - 10,820 points Michael Rogrigues - 8,745 points Wilian Cardoso - 7,970 points Yago Dora - 5,980 points Peterson Crisanto - 5,980 points Deivid Silva - 5,980 points Jesse Mendes - 4,915 points Jadson Andre - 2,925 points Adriano de Souza - 795 points Michael Rogrigues put himself in the conversation for a potential Olympic spot with a semi-final finish in Bali. French selection battle: Jérémy Florès - 12,450 points Michel Bourez - 7,970 points Joan Duru - 4,915 points Florès takes a commanding lead over Bourez and Duru thanks to a runners-up finish in Bali. Women Stephanie Gilmore Caroline Marks Courtney Conlogue Sally Fitzgibbons Brisa Hennessy Tatiana Weston-Webb Johanne Defay Silvana Lima Lima comes back from injury and competes for the first time this season, immediately overtaking Paige Hareb for the last automatic qualification spot. American selection battle (where the real action is on the women's side, the US has 7 of the top 12): Caroline Marks - 18,695 points Courtney Conlogue - 17,355 points (HAW) Carissa Moore - 17,290 points (HAW) Malia Manuel - 16,495 points Lakey Peterson - 11,305 (HAW) Coco Ho - 9,965 The American selection has developed into an extremely close four way race between Marks, Conlogue, Moore and Manuel. They are all basically within one round win of each other at the moment. Dragon 1,676 Posted June 1, 2019 #10 Share Posted June 1, 2019 What might be interesting is to work out how many of the surfers from the big nations will try to find qualifications for other countries between now and Tokyo.
