Too many relay races with too many teams?

Poland for example qualified 6 relays, and like none of them has a chance of making the final? IMO, both swimming relays and synchronized diving events should have 12 teams. Or at the very least 14 and 10.

Not sure, at the Polish Open Polanska and Kossakowska are listed as qualifying for the relays. Maybe one of them got injured?

Poland also doesn't have a lot of individual qualifiers and since "relay only" athletes must have reached the OST in the event, maybe Poland was unable to make a proper team. Like they may have to use Laura Bernat as one of the 4x200m free members...

The reason GB withdrew was scheduling with two other events taking place in the same session which would have involved women who would have swum in the relay. Given that it was the weakest of the seven GB relay teams it was decided to give priority to the individual events. Similar factors may have played into Poland's decision.

In GB's case, in particular, I think they believe Abbie Wood has a real medal shot at 200IM. Freya Anderson is a hell of a relay swimmer, but she's not currently an individual medal prospect. Still seems a pity not to bring Tamsyn and Holly Hibbott, add in Lucy Hope and Aimee Wilmott and at least let them have a crack.

In Anderson's case I think it's more concern about her overall workload with 100 Free, 200 Free, 4x100 Free, 4x100 Medley and Mixed Medley.

Agreed, 12 relays per event would be more than enough. Overall the relays aren’t really competitive, especially on the women’s side where there will be 4 medal contenders at best in all events.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.
