EselTheDonkey 674 Posted July 29, 2018 #14 Share Posted July 29, 2018 (edited) If I'm not totally misinterpreting this, than the European Qualifier will take place in May 2020 in Racice (Czechia): https://www.canoeicf.com/canoe-sprint-olympic-qualifier/racice-2020 Edited July 29, 2018 by EselTheDonkey

It was announced already in May. It will be the last chance for Europeans which failed at the WCh one year before in Szeged (HUN) to qualify. EselTheDonkey 674 Posted January 28, 2019 #16 Share Posted January 28, 2019 (edited) Do I understand correctly, that each federation can send two boats per event? https://cdn.dosb.de/user_upload/Olympische_Spiele/Tokio_2020/internationale_Qualifikationskriterien/ICF_Canoe_Sprint_20181015.pdf If so, that's a big change. The document contradicts itself and is open to multiple interpretations. They take the longest but can't even get it right.
JoshMartini007 2,209 Posted January 28, 2019 #18 Share Posted January 28, 2019 I think what they meant to say is that a nation can only qualify one boat in an event, but they can enter two boats provided that the other athlete qualified through a different event. To be honest, it's better to concentrate on athlete quotas than boat quotas in sprint canoe.

To be honest, it's better to concentrate on athlete quotas than boat quotas in sprint canoe. in Canoeing (and Rowing) it would be better to allow a certain (reasonable) number of boats in any event, forbid any form of multiple starts for all the athletes and therefore having the athletes' quota coming only and simply as a direct consequence of the number of boats allowed to compete... p.s. and I would be even stricter on the relationship between qualifiers and actual OG events...any athlete should only be allowed to take part in the Olympic Games in the same event he has qualified for (no switching allowed, only replacing with someone who didn't compete in any Olympic qualifier in case the coaches need/want to replace a qualified athlete because of injury or poor form, if compared with the previous year)... that would make it simple and fair from the beginning, with no tricks, tactics and Countries (athletes) that have to wait until the last second to know if they are in or out because they have to wait for other people's decision making their fortune or misfortune... JoshMartini007 2,209 Posted January 29, 2019 #20 Share Posted January 29, 2019 I disagree, it's quite common for athletes to compete in multiple events in canoeing. It would be like forcing athletes in athletics or swimming to compete in only one event. dcro
