Equestrian Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

So, this weekend concluded the eventing season in Europe and North America, and pretty much sealed the deal on Olympic qualification.

Teams qualified - :JPN:GBR:IRL:FRA:GER:AUS:NZL:SWE:ITA:POL:USA:BRA:CHN:THA:SUI

Everyone has the Certificate of Capability. Nilson da Silva failed, so Brazil still needs to find the third rider (they can do that next season). Thailand meanwhile has nobody to fill the reserve slot (and it will probably stay that way).

Individuals qualified (spots are awarded to NOCs, not the specific athletes)

Group A

:NED Tim Lips (Bayro) - 236

:NED Merel Blom (Ceda) - 111

Group B

:BEL Karin Donckers (Fletcha van't Verahof) - 105

:ESP Francisco Gavino Gonzalez (Source de la Faye) - 92

Group C

:RUS Aleksandr Markov (Leader) - 176

:RUS Valery Martyshev (Primero) - 159

Group D

:CAN Karl Slezak (Fernhill Wishes) - 58

:CAN Colleen Loach (Qorry Blue d'Argouges) - 57

Group E

:PUR Lauren Billys (Castle Larchfield Purdy) - 111

:CHI Carlos Lobos (Ranco) - 71

:ECU Ronald Zabala-Goetschel (Wundermaske) - 3

Group F

:RSA Victoria Scott-Legendre (Song du Magay) - 12

:ZIM Camilla Kruger (Biarritz) - 3

:PAK Usman Khan (Azad Kashmir) - 2

Group G

:IND Fouaad Mirza (Fernhill Facetime) - 34

:HKG Thomas Heffernan Ho (Tayberry) - 7

Additional

:CZE Miloslav Prihoda Jr. (Ferreolus Lat) - 141

:BLR Alexander Zelenko (Carlo Grande Jr.) - 112

:BLR Aliaksandr Faminou (Martinie) - 107

:DEN Peter T. Flarup (Fascination) - 104

:CZE Miroslav Trunda (Shutterflyke) - 99

:AUT Lea Siegl (Fighting Line) - 79

Incomplete MERs - :CHI:RSA:ZIM:PAK:IND

Everything is decided, aside from Group E and Group F.

Second quota in Group E should be decided in a direct battle between :CHI Carlos Lobos and :ECU Ronald Zabala at Campo de Mayo CCI4*-L in two weeks time.

Australian-based :PAK Usman Khan has a chance to take over the second spot away from Zimbabwe. He is entered for Wallaby Hill CCI4*-L in two weeks time, where he will essentially have to complete with MER, which would give him 3 points irregardless of his finishing position. This seems to be a massive chance for Pakistan, but it's by no means a done deal.

Special mention for the Czech Republic and Asia.

Czechs made history by claiming (largely unexpected) two spots, while Pakistan has a chance to be the sixth Asian nation qualified. I don't think Asia ever had more than two nations in eventing at single Olympics.

It's a big day for :BRA Brazil tomorrow, as the following combinations will try to obtain 66% MER at Munich Indoors...

Pedro de Almeida (Xiripiti)

Joao Victor Oliva (Aron de Massa)

Edneu Senhorini (Xapparo do Vouga)

They desperately need the scores. After Munich they will at most have 4 other opportunities. And that too is questionable, since pretty much all remaining events are European indoor shows with sometimes (very) limited entries...

isn't naming your horse "Free Kashmir" supposed to be political and forbidden ?

Yeah, I imagine it could prove to be an issue if he makes it to the Olympics, especially since India is already assured of qualification...

Interestingly, that horse was previously named "Here To Stay", but then earlier this year Khan changed it to "Azad Kashmir"... For a price of 1,000 CHF. You can check the horse's history here.

Guys I’ve just bought a horse and named it “Fuck Trump”, who wants to go the Olympics :p

French cheaters are back. :cheer:

:FRA Raphael Saleh did an excellent job really. His outlier (62.717%) prevented :BRA Senhorini from scoring the required 66%. France of course hopes to troll their way to another Olympics through reallocation.

It's already outraging that both Austria and France had judges on panel, but Saleh really outdid himself...
