intoronto 4,077 Posted April 8, 2021 #22 Share Posted April 8, 2021 I think this tournament shows that curling, like all other team sports at the Olympics, deserves 12 teams per event.

Wouldn't work if they wanted to keep the full round robin. Too many matches to squeeze onto the schedule, especially since they added the mixed doubles. Right now, it's 12 draws each for men and women to get all the matches in. They'd need 17 draws apiece for 12 teams. Has to stay at 10 Paris 2024 competition schedule by Day Paris 2024 competition schedule by Sport

NearPup 2,095 Posted April 8, 2021 #26 Share Posted April 8, 2021 I can't believe it's not Russia™ is the second team to qualify for the playoffs and the Olympics. They've been having a great week.
NearPup 2,095 Posted April 8, 2021 #27 Share Posted April 8, 2021 The - match tonight is extremely important. The loser will drop to a fifth loss. The match is especially pivotal for Canada - if Canada loses the match they no longer control their destiny, as has the head to head tie-break over Canada. The winner of the match is guaranteed to qualify if they win their final match tomorrow. and are still mathematically in the race, if my quick calculation is correct they need to win all their remaining games, Switzerland to lose at least one game and the loser of Norway - Canada to lose their final game. And that just gets them to the mess that is the tie-break.

NearPup 2,095 Posted April 9, 2021 #29 Share Posted April 9, 2021 (edited) Also, and not Russia advanced to the semi-finals. As @mrv86 mentioned qualified to the playoffs and the Olympics. Scenarios for qualification: qualifies with a win over . qualifies with a win over . qualifies with a win over and a win over . Edited April 9, 2021 by NearPup The Canada - Germany match does not affect qualification.
NearPup 2,095 Posted April 9, 2021 #30 Share Posted April 9, 2021 Turns out is also qualified due to not being last among any potential head to head scenario among five loss teams.
